Deadpool 3 director Shawn Levy is pointing to Star Wars as a major source of inspiration for what he hopes to achieve in his Deadpool and Wolverine team-up film. In a new interview, Levy talks about a specific moment in Star Wars - specifically in the third Original Trilogy film Return of the Jedi - that captured his imagination and inspired his goals as a director:

"I went to the theater again and again to see Return of the Jedi. I vividly remember the scene in which Luke is hiding from Vader in the Emperor's room and Vader gives the speech that ends with 'If you will not turn to the dark side, then perhaps your sister will.' It was dead quiet. Pin-drop silence. Suddenly Vader has pushed the wrong button. Luke comes screaming out of the shadows and just goes to town in a lightsaber battle against Vader. The way that felt: The forty seconds of stillness from the audience, then the spectacle and emotion, is seared not just in my eyeballs but in my heart..."

Levy went on to tease Esquire with exactly how he's now incorporating that scene from Return of the Jedi into Deadpool 3:

"I'm now making Deadpool 3, the production of which was paused because of the actors' strike. For one key scene in the movie, I said to my stunt and action team, 'Guys, this is the Jedi moment.' I pulled up that scene of Vader and Luke on my phone and restudied how it was photographed, how it was blocked, the framing, the tempo. The keen Star Wars fan will see the shot in my Deadpool movie that was inspired by a moment that I saw in a theater decades ago. That's a forever memory. And that's a treasure."

In recent weeks Levy has said a very interesting mix of things about Deadpool 3: he's confirmed the movie is 'very much part of the MCU,' but that it will still have a hard-R rating and the meta-humor that fans of the Deadpool movie franchise expect. At the same time, Levy also says that Deadpool 3 has a "F-kload more" heart than most Marvel fans would expect. If that all wasn't enough, Levy has teased that Deadpool 3 has landed some epic cameos - with many Marvel fans wondering if Taylor Swift isn't going to finally make that appearance as Dazzler.

For now, Deadpool 3 has lost its original release date of Feburary 2024. No new release date has been decided.

Star Wars x Columbia 2023 Winter Collection Unveiled https://comicbook.com/starwars/news/star-wars-x-columbia-2023-winter-collection-unveiled/ Wed, 01 Nov 2023 13:00:00 +0000 Sean Fallon f72b5a80-3971-47f7-8331-1e3b725c2690

The debut of Columbia's Star Wars winter collection has become an annual tradition for fans, and 2023 is going to be extra special. Columbia has confirmed that their Winter 2023 Star Wars lineup will be the biggest to date, and Luke Skywalker's iconic flight suit will provide the key bit of inspiration for a ski collection that includes a complete ski suit, jackets and snow goggles. A hooded pullover, long sleeve shirt, short sleeve shirt, cap, and a crossbody bag round out the 9 piece collection, and it's all loaded Star Wars Easter eggs for fans.

Columbia notes that their team "studied the original screen-worn costumes closely with the Lucasfilm team to ensure authentic details were incorporated into the designs". These details include the insulated collar construction, sleeve baffling, and Easter eggs such as vehicle schematics and original concept art that are subtly tucked away in each piece. Naturally, key items in the collection also feature Columbia's Omni-Heat tech, which will keep you extra warm when you're barreling down a death-defying trench run on the slopes or when you're piloting a shovel in your driveway after a blizzard.

"This collaboration balances Star Wars design with the performance and durability Columbia is known for," says Matt Merriman, VP Brand Development and Partnerships at Columbia Sportswear. "These are not costume replicas. Rather, our product team took inspiration from Luke Skywalker's iconic flight suitand created a fully equipped ski collection built to withstand the elements. It is that mash-up that we find interesting. The styles are as functional as they are beautiful."

"Columbia is unveiling this collection the week of the NASCAR Cup Series Championship on November 5, where Columbia ambassador Bubba Wallace will race his own version of Luke Skywalker's Red Five X-wing Starfighter. Wallace's car, helmet and fire suit feature intricate elements inspired by the Star Wars galaxy as he attempts to make the jump to hyperspace at the Phoenix International Raceway."

A breakdown of each style in Columbia's upcoming Skywalker Pilot collection can be found below followed by a gallery of images. Prices range from $40-$500, and it will all go on sale starting at 9:01pm PT / 12:01 am ET on November 30th / December 1st right here on the Columbia website. If history serves, top items in this collection will sell out quickly, so we highly suggest being ready at the launch time to secure your styles.

Mark Hamill Partners With NASCAR and Columbia to Reveal New Star Wars-Themed Car https://comicbook.com/starwars/news/mark-hamill-star-wars-nascar-bubba-wallace-columbia-paint-scheme/ Wed, 01 Nov 2023 04:01:00 +0000 Charlie Ridgely 742219b4-6b6f-4608-97bf-42c26081a714

The final race of the NASCAR season may be in Phoenix, Arizona, but one car in the field will look like it came straight out of a galaxy far, far away. Columbia Sportswear has served as one of the main sponsors for Bubba Wallace, driver of the 23 car for 23XI Racing, for the past three seasons. Ahead of the launch of the company's newest Star Wars-inspired clothing line, Columbia and 23XI released Wallace's galactic paint scheme for the final race, and they got a little help from Star Wars legend Mark Hamill.

On Tuesday, Columbia released a video online that reveals Wallace's new paint scheme, which is modeled after an X-Wing from Star Wars. The video features Wallace knocking on a door, only to be greeted by Hamill himself, who tosses him the keys to a new ride. Hamill also hands Bubba a new helmet, which is done up to look like the helmet Luke Skywalker and the other X-Wing pilots wore. It appears Wallace's fire suit also resembles the orange and white jumpsuit of an X-Wing pilot.

Of course, the video wouldn't be complete without Hamill telling Wallace, "The Force will be with you, always," before the driver lowered his visor and sped off down the road. You can check out the full video above!

This isn't the first time we've seen a Star Wars car in NASCAR, as many of the Star Wars prequel films were put on cars as part of a partnership with Pepsi when they first hit theaters. This is the first time, however, a car's paint scheme has been designed to model one of the ships from the movies.

Mark Hamill's Latest Role

While Hamill is best known for playing Luke Skywalker in Star Wars, he has recently made waves on Netflix, with a scene-stealing role in Mike Flanagan's Edgar Allan Poe series The Fall of the House of Usher. The actor took on the role of Arthur Pym, a lawyer and fixer for the Usher family who was based on the lead character in Poe's only novel. Speaking to Netflix's Tudum, Hamill explained why he took on such a different role for the series.

"I was intrigued by the fact that they would consider me for this part," Hamill told Tudum. "Why would they think of me? That's thinking outside the box, and I love doing quirky, unexpected things and things that I haven't done before."

"I am an unabashed fan of The Haunting of Hill House, The Haunting of Bly Manor, and, by the time they approached me for this, I'd also seen Midnight Mass, which was a great departure," he continued. "The first two were sort of linked in that they're in the world of ghosts. But with Midnight Mass he went full horror, and I just loved all three of them. So, at first, I thought, 'Well, I'd want to watch this.'"

What Will The Mandalorian Season 4 Be About?

The Mandalorian Season 3 ending (SPOILERS) saw the series get something of a reset, following the quest to reclaim the Mandalorian homeworld of Mandalore, and the defeat of Moff Gideon (Giancarlo Esposito). Din Djarin (Pedro Pascal) formally adopted his "son" Din Grogu, officially making Baby Yoda a true Mandalorian Foundling. However, while Bo-Katan Kryze (Katee Sackhoff) relit the Great Forge of Mandalore and set the foundations of a new unified tribe on the planet, Mando and Grogu set up a home for themselves on planet Nevarro, where Grogu will formally begin his Mandalorian training and Mando will work for the New Republic off the books, hunting down Imperial remnants in the Outer Rim Territories.

There's been a lot of speculation that the next season of The Mandalorian will have a premise that will also open the door toward bringing The Mandalorian, Book of Boba Fett, and Ahsoka series together for the big MandoVerse event film that Dave Filoni is helming.

Ahsoka: Watch Dave Filoni Talk About the Star Wars Legacy https://comicbook.com/starwars/news/ahsoka-watch-dave-filoni-talk-about-the-star-wars-legacy/ Sat, 28 Oct 2023 01:50:00 +0000 Jamie Jirak 689afc48-537c-455c-8c01-005209b4b8f6

Dave Filoni has a long history with Star Wars, getting his start working in animation. The creative has been a producer, writer, and director on multiple projects including Star Wars: The Clone Wars and Star Wars Rebels. Now, he's known for his work on Star Wars: The Mandalorian and Star Wars: Ahsoka, which saw many animated characters being brought to life in live-action. Ahsoka's first season came to an end earlier this month, and the official social media accounts for Star Wars have been sharing videos of the actors reflecting on their time making the series. The latest video shows Filoni talking about the legacy of Star Wars.

"We all bring a little bit of to Star Wars, of what we like, and we hope it fits into that galaxy. George [Lucas], he created this galaxy. He created these dynamics. Jedi, Sith. All these things I play with, and I've been fortunate that he taught me a lot of things. I'm always doing my best to follow what he taught, and my nature comes into it. So you get space whales and wolves," Filoni shared with a laugh. "You know, that's all part of it." You can watch the video below:

Will Ahsoka Get a Season 2?

Earlier this month, Deadline reported that "Ahsoka Season 2 is more of a reality in the conversation, though nothing is locked yet." Considering Ahsoka's ties with The Mandalorian and Filoni's future film plans, it's pretty likely we'll be seeing the Ahsoka characters again. Before the SAG strike, ComicBook.com had the chance to chat with Rosario Dawson (Ahsoka) while she was promoting her new film, Haunted Mansion, and we asked if she knew anything about Filoni's film and whether or not she would be in it.

"No. I'm just so happy he got it," Dawson shared when asked if she knew about the project. "Honestly, my uncle is a comic book artist. That is not the average transition coming from animation and going into directing, and especially a film. For all the nerds, I think for the cons and stuff, this is just like, 'Ah!' kind of status. So, I'm just super stoked for him because it really could not happen to a better person. He's so talented and remarkable and awesome, and I love him. And I think what he learned in doing in animation, he's blowing out of the water in directing and live action. So, I'm, as a fan, excited to watch that movie, whether I'm in it or not."

She added, "And I hope I'm invited to set, regardless."

Stay tuned for more updates about Dave Filoni's corner of the Star Wars universe.

Star Wars Outlaws May Have Been Delayed by Ubisoft https://comicbook.com/gaming/news/star-wars-outlaws-possibly-delayed-ubisoft-large-game/ Thu, 26 Oct 2023 17:27:00 +0000 Marc Deschamps 9cb557e1-481c-4d21-a86c-09d2a42bf5b2

Ubisoft has released a report for the first half of its fiscal year, and in it, the company has noted that a "large game" that it planned to release before the end of the fiscal year has been pushed to FY2024-25. While Ubisoft does not outright say what the game is, there has been speculation from Video Games Chronicle that the title in question is Star Wars Outlaws. Ubisoft has never offered a concrete release window for the game, but it has long been expected to arrive before the end of the company's current fiscal year, which comes to a conclusion on March 31, 2024.

"The overperformance in Q2 and the current positive momentum of Ubisoft's brands build confidence for the rest of the year. The company can therefore confirm its announced guidance of strong top line growth and non-IFRS operating income of approximately EUR400 million, without releasing the other large game it had initially planned to launch during the last quarter of the current fiscal year," Ubisoft's financial statement reads. "The Company has decided to launch this other large game in FY2024-25 so as to maximize its value creation."

Why is Ubisoft Delaying a Large Game?

Ubisoft doesn't seem to be delaying this game based on concerns over quality, or because the game's developers need extra time, which tend to be the main reasons games get pushed back. Instead, it seems that Ubisoft's numbers are very good this year, so the company plans to delay that big game into next year to help its numbers later. We don't know for certain that this is Star Wars Outlaws, and even if it is, a delay into the next fiscal year could mean just a few short months. If the company was planning to have the game release in February or March, we could still see it arrive in time to coincide with Star Wars Day in May. For now, fans will just have to wait patiently to see when the game gets a firm release date.

Star Wars Outlaws Details

Star Wars Outlaws is the franchise's first open-world game. Set between the events of The Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi, players are cast in the role of series newcomer Kay Vess. Vess will explore the galaxy during a time of turmoil, as tensions between the Rebellion and the Galactic Empire are nearing a tipping point. It's a dangerous time in the galaxy to be certain, but it's also one that could be very profitable for someone like Vess; the outlaw and her crew are planning "one of the biggest heists the Outer Rim has ever seen."

When the game does end up releasing, Star Wars Outlaws will be available on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC.

Are you planning to check out Star Wars Outlaws? Do you think that's the game Ubisoft has delayed? Share your thoughts with me directly on Twitter at @Marcdachamp or on Instagram at @Dachampgaming!

Star Wars Deal Has 3 Popular Games for a Few Dollars https://comicbook.com/gaming/news/star-wars-gamestop-games-sale-deal/ Thu, 26 Oct 2023 13:01:00 +0000 Tyler Fischer 60d59a3d-8128-42f0-8377-152850cb2614

A new Star Wars deal nets you three popular Star Wars games for a combined $10. In other words, you can currently grab three Star Wars games for roughly $3 a game. The deal comes the way of GameStop, and unfortunately, for those who prefer brand-spanking-new copies of games, some of the deals are limited to pre-owned copies. GameStop offers a guarantee its pre-owned games work or your money back, but if you're not interested in pre-owned games then some of the deals below will not tickle your fancy. And the emphasis is on "some," because not every deal below is for a pre-owned game.

The most notable of these deals is for Star Wars: Squadrons, which normally runs at $40 for a digital code of the game. Right now though, GameStop has discounted digital codes of Star Wars: Squadrons on Xbox One to just $3.99. The PS4 version is $9.99. The second best deal is for Star Wars Battlefront II. Right now, GameStop has both pre-owned copies of the game on PS4 and Xbox One at just $4.99. And lastly, it has the same offer for the first game, but the discount slashes the game to just $0.99.

Below, you can read more about each game and check out a trailer for each game as well:

Star Wars: Squadrons:

"Master the art of starfighter combat in the authentic piloting experience Star Wars: Squadrons. Buckle up and feel the adrenaline of first-person, multiplayer space dogfights alongside your squadron. Pilots who enlist will step into the cockpits of starfighters from both the New Republic and Imperial fleets and fight in strategic 5v5 space battles. Modify your starfighter, and adjust the composition of your squadron to suit varying playstyles and crush the opposition. Pilots will triumph as a team and complete tactical objectives across known and never-before-seen battlefields, including the gas giant of Yavin Prime and the shattered moon of Galitan. Take control of starfighters such as the X-wing and TIE fighter. Customize loadouts and cosmetics. Divert power between weapons, shields, and engines while immersing yourself in the cockpit. In addition, players will have the option to play the entirety of the game in virtual reality (VR)!"

Star Wars Battlefront II:

"Be the hero in the ultimate Star Wars battle fantasy with Star Wars Battlefront II: Celebration Edition! Get Star Wars Battlefront II and the complete collection of customization content acquirable through in-game purchase from launch up to - and including - items inspired by Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker."

Star Wars Battlefront:

Intense dogfights between squadrons of X-wings and TIE fighters filling the skies. Immerse yourself in the epic Star Wars battles you've always dreamed of and create new heroic moments of your own in Star Wars Battlefront."

Star Wars: Dark Forces Remaster Gets Release Date https://comicbook.com/gaming/news/star-wars-dark-forces-remaster-release-date/ Tue, 24 Oct 2023 15:55:00 +0000 Logan Moore 96381e53-418e-4b2a-9203-49cbf23f4fe2

The much-anticipated remaster of Star Wars: Dark Forces now has a release date. Back in September, Nightdive Studios announced that it would be remastering Dark Forces, which is the classic Star Wars first-person shooter that originally launched back in 1995. Now, after nearly 30 years, Star Wars: Dark Forces will be playable in a new manner when it arrives in the first months of 2024.

Shared by Nightdive today (via GameSpot), the developer announced that Star Wars: Dark Forces Remaster will roll out on February 28, 2024. Although the original game was only available on PC and PlayStation, this remaster will instead come to all modern platforms which includes PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X/S, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, and PC. As for this version's improvements, the game will now feature 4K visuals and a framerate that will go to 120fps on all platforms other than Switch. Despite these big upgrades, though, Dark Forces will still play like the original did, keeping the experience intact for those that want it to still mirror its throwback format and mechanics.

What Is Star Wars: Dark Forces About?

Outside of being one of the first shooters ever set in the Star Wars universe, Dark Forces is also well-known for being the original game to introduce protagonist Kyle Katarn. Following his appearance in Dark Forces, Katarn went on to star in a number of sequels that included Star Wars Jedi Knight: Dark Forces 2, Star Wars Jedi Knight 2: Jedi Outcast, and Star Wars Jedi Knight: Jedi Academy. Following Disney's acquisition of the Star Wars IP, Katarn became non-canon and has since become part of "Star Wars Legends." Still, this hasn't prevented Katarn's popularity from dwindling over the years, especially for those who grew up playing the Jedi Knight series.

To learn more about what this forthcoming remaster of Star Wars: Dark Forces has in store, you can find its official description below.

"Star Wars: Dark Forces Remaster has been brought to life by the team at Nightdive Studios, fully remastered through its proprietary KEX engine, allowing the game to run on modern gaming devices at up to 4K resolution at 120 frames per second. New and returning players will enjoy Star Wars: Dark Forces Remaster's upgraded gameplay, high-resolution textures, enhanced lighting and rendering, and support for gamepads.

The original 1995 Star Wars: Dark Forces raised the bar for first-person shooter games, offering players a significant degree of movement and interactivity, a large selection of items and power-ups, and engaging environments.

In the first Star Wars first-person shooter video game, players assume the role of Kyle Katarn, a defector of the Galactic Empire turned mercenary for hire. Katarn joins the Rebel Alliance's covert operations division tasked with infiltrating the Galactic Empire, where he discovers the secret Dark Trooper Project. The development of this powerful new series of Imperial battle droids and power-armored stormtroopers stands to strengthen the Empire's grip on the galaxy unless Katarn and the Rebel Alliance intervene."

Star Wars The Black Series Wookiee Halloween Edition Is Only $10 Today https://comicbook.com/starwars/news/star-wars-the-black-series-wookiee-halloween-edition-is-only-10-today/ Tue, 24 Oct 2023 14:19:00 +0000 Sean Fallon 3153eb5a-937c-4ff5-b280-9a095788bf99 psx-20221025-104659.jpg

With Halloween only days away, why not treat yourself to the Star Wars Black Series Wookiee (Halloween Edition) figure that was released last year as part of Hasbro's holiday lineup? What if we told you it was only $9.99 (57% off)? If that's in impulse buy territory for you, you can pick it up here on Amazon while the deal lasts.

Accessories for the figure include a Halloween jack-o'-lantern bucket filled with beskar that's wrapped up to look like chocolate bars. There's even a scary Bogling buddy! We suppose that it could also double as a werewolf figure...with some armor on. Now there's some inspiration for a horror movie that we would like to see.

You can keep up with more of Hasbro's Star Wars: The Black Series reveals and deals right here.

What Is Dave Filoni's Star Wars Movie About?

While details on Filoni's Star Wars movie are still relatively slim -- including the movie's release date -- we do know that it will be set during the New Republic era, and will have an epic event quality to it.

"Jon [Favreau] and I have our own little theater that we've been playing in, but Star Wars is a big galaxy. I think there's a lot of possibilities, but we do things our own way," Filoni told ComicBook.com earlier this year. "I think of, you know, A New Hope is an important moment in the timeline. The Death Star blows up. That changes everything ... A cinematic moment for this time period has to be a moment that's changing things and we understand it as the audience and then it can ripple down if we have other shows going on underneath that. So if there was a show taking place in the New Hope time period that you were watching as a kid, you would understand that things have changed in the show because the Death Star blew up. But they didn't necessarily need to be there. So there's a ton of possibilities for how to tell these stories in a unique way for Star Wars as well."

The first three seasons of Star Wars: The Mandalorian are streaming on Disney+ now.

Star Wars: Shawn Levy Explains His Approach to His Upcoming Movie https://comicbook.com/starwars/news/star-wars-shawn-levy-movie-explained-approach-franchise-update-lucasfilm/ Mon, 23 Oct 2023 21:25:00 +0000 Patrick Cavanaugh 253aa6c2-15f4-4598-bc60-22c6c1a60f1e

The Adam Project and Deadpool 3 director Shawn Levy is expected to head to the galaxy far, far away at some point in the future, with the filmmaker recently expressing that he is being encouraged by Lucasfilm to pursue whatever type of story he would like and that he's not feeling any pressure from the studio to deliver something within their expectations. Unfortunately, this year's writers' strike saw development on the project stagnate, so there's currently no promising update on when the film could be moving forward. Additionally, the actors' strike means production on Deadpool 3 has paused for months, with Levy being committed to that project before being able to fully commit to Star Wars.

"When [Lucasfilm president] Kathy Kennedy brought me on board to make a Star Wars movie, her central mandate to me was, 'I want a Shawn Levy movie. I want a story and a tone that reflects you and your taste and what you bring to your movies -- with a Star Wars story,'" Levy recently shared with Variety. "So I have felt extremely empowered. We are in early days, unfortunately, because the development process was abruptly paused [due to the WGA strike], but I feel very empowered to trust my instincts in the development of this story and movie."

Given the scope of Deadpool 3 and its built-in following, as well as being a partnership with Disney, Levy also addressed how the Ryan Reynolds sequel is factoring into his time with Star Wars.

"The experience that I'm currently having with Marvel on Deadpool is showing me firsthand that it is indeed really possible to feel empowered and personal about making a movie within a universe that is bigger than any one film," the filmmaker expressed. "My Deadpool movie is turning out to be exactly what Ryan [Reynolds] and I had hoped when we started off. So I'm going into the development of my Star Wars movie with a similar optimism, and faith that my instincts will be allowed to lead the way."

On the topic of Levy's friendship with Adam Driver, as far as whether this could result in a Kylo Ren prequel, Levy joked, "Your words, not mine! As you know Adam is a buddy, and I've always been a huge fan of Kylo Ren. But no comment."

Stay tuned for updates on Levy's Star Wars movie.

Star Wars: Galactic Starcruiser Survey Asks Final Guests About Potential Improvements, Will It Re-Open? https://comicbook.com/starwars/news/galactic-starcruiser-star-wars-survey-reopening-disney-world-potential-galaxys-edge/ Mon, 23 Oct 2023 02:54:00 +0000 Charlie Ridgely 045717b3-d06c-4787-bafa-a0e2b544488e

The Galactic Starcruiser will likely go down as one of the biggest misfires in the history of Disney Parks, with the enormous and expensive Star Wars-themed hotel experience shutting down less than two years after it opened. The immersive, two-day Star Wars attraction was too costly for many Disney guests to justify, leading to low attendance and keeping the experience from ever making money. However, with all of the pieces already in place, Disney is seemingly looking into ways to make the Starcruiser work in the future.

According to The Wrap, many of the last guests to board the Galactic Starcruiser were sent a detailed survey from Disney. This survey is focused on ways the Starcruiser experience could be improved going forward. It would be odd to ask about improving an attraction that had already been closed, unless there were plans to try and reopen it in the future.

Len Testa, President of Touring Plans and the co-author of The Unofficial Guide to Walt Disney World, told The Wrap that the chances of the Starcruiser reopening are "better than 50/50."

"If they were going to lock the doors and walk away they wouldn't be emailing every person who was on the Starcruiser to do a survey about how it might change," Testa said.

There were reports of some potential Starcruiser ideas earlier this year, including charging a small fee for tours of the facility or even giving the entire experience a makeover to fit in with the hit series Star Wars: The Mandalorian. There's no telling what exactly is on the table right now, but Disney is clearly interested in salvaging the expensive project.

What Was The Star Wars: Galactic Starcruiser?

Disney's Galactic Starcruiser was a two-day experience that put fans deep into the Star Wars galaxy, allowing them to be a part of an adventure where all of their choices affected their experience. You can check out Disney's description of the attraction below!

"Star Wars: Galactic Starcruiser is a revolutionary new 2-night experience where you are the hero. You and your group will embark on a first-of-its-kind Star Wars adventure that's your own. It's the most immersive Star Wars story ever created--one where you live a bespoke experience and journey further into a Star Wars adventure than you ever dreamed possible.

"Arrive at the Walt Disney World Resort terminal, board a launch pod and rendezvous with the magnificent Halcyon starcruiser. Stay in a cabin or suite with an exquisite view of space. Throughout the ship, you'll interact with an eclectic collection of characters, sit down to exotic galactic cuisine and perhaps even plot a secret mission together," they continue. "As the itinerary continues, you'll take the story further and deeper. Choose your path. Seek out the inner workings of the legendary starship, learn the traditional art of wielding a lightsaber and even jump on a transport to the planet Batuu--where your mission continues at Star Wars: Galaxy's Edge!"

Marvel Confirms Cancellation of Star Wars Series https://comicbook.com/starwars/news/star-wars-bounty-hunters-cancelled/ Sun, 22 Oct 2023 21:31:00 +0000 Jamie Lovett 92e9e767-8944-4dd7-b015-2befcca293a8

Marvel's Star Wars: Bounty Hunters series is ending in January. Marvel's January 2024 solicitations included ordering information for Star Wars: Bounty Hunters #42. The issue's synopsis includes confirmation that Star Wars: Bounty Hunters #42 is the series' final issue, as previously implied during the Star Wars publishing panel at New York Comic Con. However, as also revealed at NYCC, Bounty Hunters writer Ethan Sacks will remain part of the Star Wars comics universe and still in the bounty hunter mode as the writer of the upcoming Star Wars: Jango Fett series. Here's Marvel's summary for Star Wars: Bounty Hunters #42:

"THE EXPLOSIVE END OF THE SAGA! VALANCE THE BOUNTY HUNTER has one final mission to complete...and it may indeed be his LAST! Can he and the crew fight their way past BOBA FETT...and JABBA's SECRET WEAPON? The GRAND FINALE of the series that's four years in the making!"

What is Star Wars: Bounty Hunters?

Sacks wrote the entire Star Wars: Bounty Hunters series, with Paolo Villanelli providing most of the series' artwork. Marvel launched the series in March 2020 as part of its Star Wars line set between Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back and Star Wars: Return of the Jedi. The series has focused on classic Star Wars bounty hunters like Boba Fett, Bossk, and Beilert Valance.

As part of Marvel's Star Wars line, the Bounty Hunters characters have been involved in a number of events involving the primary characters from the Skywalker Saga. Those events include War of the Bounty Hunters, Crimson Reign, and Dark Droids.

The Future of Marvel's Star Wars Comics

Marvel is in its fourth year of telling Star Wars stories set during the one year between The Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi. If that continues to be the setting of Marvel's line, 2024 will be year five. Star Wars: Bounty Hunters is concluding, but Marvel's main ongoing Star Wars series, Darth Vader series, and Doctor Aphra series all seem set to continue into the new year.

The Star Wars publishing panel suggested that Marvel might focus more on characters from the Star Wars prequel trilogy. Alongside Sacks' Jango Fett series, Marvel announced a new Star Wars: Mace Windu series. Separately, Marvel will publish an adaptation of the Timothy Zahn Star Wars novel Thrawn: Alliances, which features Thrawn's team-up with Anakin Skywalker and later with Darth Vader, plus a new wave of Star Wars: The High Republic comics. December's Star Wars: Revelations one-shot will set the stage for next year's Star Wars comics from Marvel.

Star Wars: Bounty Hunters #42 goes on sale on January 17th. Sacks' Star Wars: Jango Fett series launches in March.

Frasier Star Kelsey Grammer Reflects on Failed Star Wars Audition https://comicbook.com/starwars/news/frasier-star-kelsey-grammer-reflects-on-failed-star-wars-audition/ Sun, 22 Oct 2023 18:00:00 +0000 Jamie Jirak 533f1f61-5e5a-4c09-8df9-278650cebfe9

Kelsey Grammer is best known for playing Frasier Crane on Cheers and Frasier, which recently returned to Paramount+ for a new reboot nearly 20 years after the original series finale. Some fans might recall that Grammer also has a history with Star Trek, playing Morgan Bateson in the Star Trek: The Next Generation episode "Cause And Effect." Turns out, Star Trek wasn't the only "Star" franchise that could have featured the sitcom star. Earlier this year, before the SAG strike, Grammer was interviewed by the In Depth podcast and revealed his failed Star Wars audition.

During the interview, Grammer recalled being introduced to an agent and was even given the address where George Lucas was holding auditions for the original Star Wars. Grammer remembers discussing that he would probably be a better Han Solo than Luke Skywalker role, but then he never heard back.

"I walk around and knock on the door, sure enough, they call me in, and I sit down, and there is... I didn't know him at the time, George Lucas. 'We're making this thing about... is a fairytale in space. You know, two guys rescue a princess.' Great, sounds like fun. So he said, 'You're right for... well, there's two parts... maybe the older guy. He's kind of, you know, a gunslinging kind of guy. You know, an adventurer.'"

Grammer continued, "I'm watching a little bit longer, and holly sh*t, this is that movie. This is that thing the guy told me about. It's them. It's... oh, my god. And, you know, I either dodged a bullet or missed a really big opportunity."

Which Frasier Stars Returned For Reboot?

Grammar isn't the only star returning for the Paramount+ series. Bebe Neuwirth will reprise her role as Frasier's ex-wife, Lilith. Peri Gilpin is also returning as Roz Doyle, who produced Frasier's radio show in Seattle throughout the original Frasier run. Conversely, David Hyde Pierce will not return as Frasier's brother, Niles. Sadly, John Mahoney passed away in 2018, so fans also won't be seeing Frasier's dad, Martin, in the new series. Neither Neuwirth nor Gilpin showed up in the first three episodes.

Jack Cutmore-Scott plays Fraiser's son, Freddy; Nicholas Lyndhurst stars as Frasier's old college buddy turned university professor, Alan; Toks Olagundoye as Alan's colleague and head of the university psychology department, Olivia; Jess Salguerio as Freddy's roommate, Eve; and Anders Keith as Frasier's nephew, David.

In an interview with the Independent, Grammer explained that the new series is less of a reboot and more of an all-new series to feature the character.

"The ethics of Frasier - the study of good, let's say - was important to us," Grammer explained. "It seemed important to all the people that were involved in the original one, and it has remained important in the show today." He continued, "Frasier has been my ministry, you could say ... He's trying to spread the good word, to put some love in the world - and tolerance, true tolerance. Those are powerful words, but most people use them to manipulate. I think tolerance is a beautiful, beautiful concept. Not particularly realised in behaviour in our country, but still a good goal."

"This isn't really a spin-off," Grammer added. "It's more of a third act, or fourth act. A spin-off of a spin-off."

The first three episodes of the new Fraiser are now streaming on Paramount+.

Star Wars: Original Lando Showrunner Still Hasn't Heard From Disney About Being Replaced https://comicbook.com/starwars/news/star-wars-lando-series-justin-simien-fired-exit-reaction-explained-donald-glover/ Fri, 20 Oct 2023 20:08:00 +0000 Patrick Cavanaugh 2e9228cd-52da-4928-be1e-d509f5580d54

In the almost three years since Disney announced that Justin Simien would be developing the Star Wars: Lando miniseries, the studio itself has yet to offer any official updates about the project, though reports emerged earlier this summer that star Donald Glover would be developing the project with his brother Stephen Glover, with those social media updates being the most Simien had learned about the project. When those reports emerged, Simien shared them on social media and also offered his support of Donald Glover, which is a sentiment he maintains, even if he has some disappointment over not getting official updates directly from Disney.

"It was the first time I had gotten any official confirmation at all about what was happening with [Lando]," Simien recently confirmed with TheWrap. "You'd certainly, like, hear rumors. It's a small town. Donald Glover and I have a lot of mutual friends. So I had some idea of possibilities of what might be happening and why we haven't heard from anybody."

He added, "The good news is that I'm a huge fan -- truly, genuinely of Donald Glover, and particularly the work that him and his brother do. So I'm also happy to just be a fan and watch it, and sort of get to experience it the way an audience would, because it's certainly what I wanted to see when I said yes to the project."

What makes matters so interesting is that Simien had been working closely with Disney to bring this year's Haunted Mansion to life, so while Disney oversaw the project and also controls the rights to Star Wars, it seems like the communication breakdown is more connected directly to Lucasfilm than Disney as a whole. Simien also is far from the first filmmaker to part ways from a Lucasfilm project, with the filmmaker reflecting on how Guillermo del Toro recently discussed an abandoned Jabba the Hutt project, confirming that the scrapping of plans isn't indicative of a creative's talent. Additionally, del Toro had also been attached to develop a Haunted Mansion movie previously.

"I'm seeing Guillermo del Toro making the rounds [online], who also was attached to the Haunted Mansion incidentally, at a certain point, talking about his Jabba the Hutt movie that didn't get made. There's a pattern, isn't there? And at least I'm not alone in this situation," Simien confessed to the outlet. "But I would say, I don't know how it went [for del Toro] -- I don't know why anybody would sign up for that again, to sort of like pour your heart and soul into something, and then to wait for several years, and then find out in an article that someone else is doing it. Yeah, I don't know if I want to do that again. That doesn't sound fun to me at all."

While Star Wars: Lando was initially announced as a miniseries, Stephen Glover more recently shared that the project could actually be a movie. Stay tuned for updates on Star Wars: Lando.

Star Wars: Ahsoka Funko Pops Add Thrawn, Night Troopers, and More https://comicbook.com/starwars/news/star-wars-ahsoka-funko-pops-wave-2/ Fri, 20 Oct 2023 15:59:00 +0000 Sean Fallon 8dd59d78-4b75-4f8f-ab44-e03f1b371c4e psx-20231020-115749.jpg

Season 1 of Star Wars: Ahsoka is in the books at Disney+, and we're finally getting a second wave of Funko Pops that include some highly anticipated additions. Morgan Elsbeth, Shin Hati, Baylan Skoll, Captain Enoch, two variants of Thrawn's Night Troopers, and more are now up for pre-order, but we expect that the Pop figure of Grand Admiral Thrawn (Lars Mikkelsen) himself will be the hot ticket item in this collection.

Pre-orders for the common Star Wars: Ahsoka Funko Pops are available here at Entertainment Earth now and should arrive here at Hot Topic and here on Amazon in the very near future. As far as exclusives are concerned, you can find them via the list below. The Captain Enoch exclusive is especially awesome-looking with armor that includes gold-colored accents.

Details about the first wave of Pops in the Ahsoka lineup can be found below. You can check out more of the latest Funko drops right here via our Wednesday launch master list.

The first wave of Star Wars: Ahsoka Funko Pops included figures of Ahsoka Tano, Marrok, Professor Huyang, General Hera Syndulla, and C1-10P (Chopper) along with a handful of Pop Keychains. You can get your pre-order in for the first Star Wars: Ahsoka Funko Pops below.

What Is Star Wars: Ahsoka About?

Fan-favorite Star Wars hero Ahsoka Tano returns in the brand new series on Disney+. Rosario Dawson stars in Star Wars: Ahsoka, premiering in August on the streamer. The series picks up after the events of The Mandalorian and The Book of Boba Fett, in which we saw the former Jedi searching for Grand Admiral Thrawn (Lars Mikkelsen) and helping Luke Skywalker train Grogu. Ahsoka will be joined on her new mission alongside longtime allies Sabine Wren (Natasha Liu Bordizzo) and Hera Syndulla (Mary Elizabeth Winstead) as they attempt to track down Thrawn, who was last seen disappearing to the far reaches of space after a confrontation with Ezra Bridger (Eman Esfandi). Star Wars: Ahsoka is the latest live-action series from Lucasfilm's creative duo of Jon Favreau and Dave Filoni.

Will Ahsoka Get a Season 2?

Deadline reported that "Ahsoka Season 2 is more of a reality in the conversation, though nothing is locked yet." Considering Ahsoka's ties with The Mandalorian and showrunner Dave Filoni's future film plans, it's pretty likely we'll be seeing the Ahsoka characters again.

Stay tuned for more updates about Ahsoka.

New Star Wars: The Mandalorian Funko Pops Include Bo-Katan On Throne https://comicbook.com/starwars/news/new-star-wars-the-mandalorian-funko-pops-include-bo-katan-on-throne/ Fri, 20 Oct 2023 15:55:00 +0000 Sean Fallon bb629789-3559-48da-a243-2a3830b97a2f psx-20231020-115246.jpg

Season 3 of Star Wars: The Mandalorian came and went without a major wave of new Funko Pop releases, but they're firing the engine back up today with a collection of new-ish figures. Many of the Pops amount to minor updates to previously released figures with Bo-Katan Kryze on the Throne being the one major must-have. Other notable new additions include Peli Motto with Grogu and the Mandalorian Judge.

Rounding out the list is yet another Grogu, a Mandalorian with Darksaber that looks pretty good, The Armorer, Paz Vizsla, and a Pop Ride of The Mandalorian in his N-1 Starfighter that swaps out Grogu for R5-D4. Pre-orders for all of these new The Mandalorian Pop figures are available here at Entertainment Earth now and should be available here at Hot Topic and here on Amazon in the very near future. Note that a new wave of Star Wars: Ahsoka Funko Pops also launched today. You can keep up with more of the latest Funko Pop drops right here via our weekly Wednesday launch master list.

Star Wars: Director Matthew Vaughn Interested in Total Reboot of Franchise, "It Needs an Epic New Film" https://comicbook.com/starwars/news/star-wars-reboot-matthew-vaughn-reaction-explained-interest-franchise-luke-skywalker/ Thu, 19 Oct 2023 20:30:00 +0000 Patrick Cavanaugh 98c0637b-f73c-40bf-9c7f-0c585eb61c9c

The Star Wars franchise has delivered big-screen adventures for more than four decades, with each new film expanding on the original lore from the debut 1977 film. Filmmaker Matthew Vaughn recently recalled how, for him to be interested in getting involved in the galaxy far, far away, the real prospect of such an opportunity would be to reboot the original movie, igniting interest in new generations with a contemporary cinematic sensibility. He also noted how, as long as the movies are good, older fans would be on board with such a reboot, as the strengths of the series have always centered around those original characters.

"For me, doing a Star Wars movie is to play with the characters that I love. So if they said to me, 'Do you wanna reboot Star Wars and actually have Luke Skywalker, [Han] Solo, and Vader, and you do your own version of it?' everyone would say you're an idiot to try, but that would excite me," Vaughn revealed on the Happy Sad Confused podcast. "That'd be fun, why not? Bond ... you ask me who is going to play the next Wolverine, why are these characters so hallowed that, from 1977, you can't redo it for a new audience? Star Wars is the Skywalker family. And that's where, I think, they've gone wrong because they've forgotten ... And they've done brilliantly in the TV [world], but it needs an epic new film and that's what I would do."

Vaughn previously rebooted a franchise with his X-Men: First Class, though with that film taking place many years before the version of beloved characters we met in the original X-Men films, audiences weren't quite as judgmental about an entire reboot. The success of that film even allowed the older and younger versions of characters to collide in X-Men: Days of Future Past. One potential snag in Vaughn's outlook, however, was that Solo: A Star Wars Story attempted to find new performers to play iconic characters, with that film being a box-office disappointment.

Still, Vaughn isn't intimidated by the potential fan reactions to a reboot.

"Everyone's going to go batsh-t crazy,`but let's bring it on," Vaughn joked. "Because if you want a new generation, make the movie for them. The old generation can, if you make it well enough that they go, 'Okay, I'm enjoying it.'"

While there are multiple announced Star Wars movies on the way, it's currently unknown which adventure will be the next to land on the big screen.

Stay tuned for updates on the future of the Star Wars franchise.

Star Wars Rebels Co-Creator Responds to Characters Appearing in Ahsoka https://comicbook.com/tv-shows/news/star-wars-rebels-co-creator-responds-to-characters-appearing-in-ahsoka/ Thu, 19 Oct 2023 13:20:00 +0000 Russ Burlingame 72487abd-afb7-491c-9545-d6248a349f5a

Star Wars fans have been excited about Ahsoka's many references to the Clone Wars and Rebels animated series, as well as the guest appearances by characters whose relationships with Ahsoka were forged there. Dave Filoni, who helped make those series a reality, has been working as a key creative force on the live-action Star Wars shows as well, but his Rebels co-creator, Simon Kinberg, has since moved on from Lucasfilm. Kinberg, who also produced a number of Marvel movies for Fox, currently runs Invasion at Apple TV+.

Asked about the appearance of Rebels characters on Ahsoka, Kinberg was delighted. He joked that creating a key part of Star Wars canon feels like writing Bible verses, adding that he never could have seen it coming.

"There's so many things to me that are exciting about the Rebels characters coming to life in Ahsoka," Kinberg told Inverse. "It's not something I ever imagined when we were making the show."

Fan-favorite Star Wars hero Ahsoka Tano returns in the brand new series on Disney+. Rosario Dawson stars in Star Wars: Ahsoka, which premiered on August 22nd on the streamer.

Star Wars: Watch Ahsoka Stars Discuss Anakin and Ahsoka's Relationship https://comicbook.com/starwars/news/star-wars-watch-ahsoka-rosario-dawson-hayden-christensen-discuss-anakin-and-ahsoka-relationship/ Wed, 18 Oct 2023 20:02:00 +0000 Jamie Jirak e1a319d3-f1e8-459f-a9b5-d82b60d98784

The final episode of Star Wars: Ahsoka was released earlier this month, and it teased a lot of excitement for the future. The new series continued the titular character's story in live-action and featured some big surprises along the way. Ahsoka (Rosario Dawson) encounters Anakin (Hayden Christensen) in the World Between Worlds and the duo revisits some of their big moments from the Clone Wars. In the episode, younger Ahsoka is played by Barbie's Ariana Greenblatt. Since the show's finale aired, Star Wars has been sharing videos of the actors reflecting on their time making the series. The latest video shows Dawson, Christensen, and Greenblatt discussing the show's fifth episode, and Ahsoka and Anakin's relationship.

"You start to realize just how rich Ahsoka's history is," Dawson explains. "Ahsoka is such a relatable character," Greenblatt adds. "Anakin and Ahsoka's relationship is so cherished and it's so loved, and they have so many fantastic moments together," she added. "In a lot of ways, her character arc can sort of parallel Anakin's," Christensen explained. You can watch the video below:

Will Ahsoka Get a Season 2?

Earlier this month, Deadline reported that "Ahsoka Season 2 is more of a reality in the conversation, though nothing is locked yet." Considering Ahsoka's ties with The Mandalorian and showrunner Dave Filoni's future film plans, it's pretty likely we'll be seeing the Ahsoka characters again.

Stay tuned for more updates about Ahsoka.

Is The Mandalorian Coming Back?

A recent rumor revealed that The Mandalorian Season 4 could become a movie with executive producer Dave Filoni attached to the direct before he works on his upcoming film that was announced during Star Wars Celebration, and it has yet to be confirmed. With Disney+ and Lucasfilm not officially confirming that a fourth season of The Mandalorian is in the works, series director Rick Famuyiwa and some of the people behind-the-scenes teased that the fourth season may already be in production.

"A lot of this stuff has to be thought through, built, conceived, and prepped ... That work takes time. That work has to get done ... Jon [Favreau] has written the scripts," Famuyiwa recently confirmed. "He's excited about continuing to tell stories in the world. When and how that happens, considering everything, we'll see... I felt like this season was a nice culmination, but I'm excited about Season 4. It's certainly coming, I just don't know exactly when."

In the meantime, Star Wars: Ahsoka is currently in the streaming spotlight at Disney+. A synopsis is available below.

Star Wars Announces Mace Windu, Jango Fett Series https://comicbook.com/starwars/news/star-wars-mace-windu-jango-fett-marvel-comics/ Wed, 18 Oct 2023 14:15:00 +0000 Jamie Lovett d7031762-bb84-479b-804b-93b9d61cd0f5

Star Wars is returning to the prequel trilogy era with two series focusing on fan-favorite characters, Jedi Master Mace Windu and bounty hunter Jango Fett. These new miniseries, to be published by Marvel, were announced during the Lucasfilm Publishing panel at New York Comic Con along with other titles coming soon, including all-ages graphic novels starring Obi-Wan Kenobi and Qui-Gon Jinn published by Dark Horse Comics and Marvel's entry into Phase III of Star Wars: The High Republic. Marvel will also adapt Timothy Zahn's novel Thrawn: Alliances, which features Thrawn's team-up with Anakin Skywalker during the Clone Wars, into comic book form.

Mark Bernardin is writing the Mace Windu miniseries, which launches in January. The panel revealed Mateus Manhanini's cover of Star Wars: Mace Windu #1, but no mention of who is drawing the series. This is Marvel's second Mace Windu miniseries after the one launched in 2017 by writer Matthew Owens and artist Denys Cowan with the subtitle "Jedi of the Republic."

The Jango Fett series is the next Star Wars project from writer Ethan Sacks, who has been writing the Star Wars: Bounty Hunters series that will soon end. The new Jango Fett miniseries will launch in March. Again, no one named the series' interior artist, but Leinil Francis Yu's Star Wars: Jango Fett #1 cover was shown.

Zahn will reteam with Jody Houser, who previously adapted Zahn's 2017 Thrawn novel, on Marvel's adaptation of Thrawn: Alliances. The panel did not name the adaptation's artist (Luke Ross penciled Marvel's previous Thrawn adaptation), but Rod Reis created the first issue's cover.

(Photo: Dark Horse Comics)

Dark Horse's Obi-Wan Kenobi and Qui-Gon Jinn graphic novels kick off a new subseries as part of the publisher's Hyperspace Stories line of all-ages Star Wars comics. Writer Cecil Castelucci and artist Lucas Marangon are the creative team for the Obi-Wan Kenobi graphic novel, with writer George Mann and artist Andrea Mutti on the Qui-Gon Jinn title.

Marvel and Dark Horse will participate in Phase III of Star Wars: The High Republic. Marvel is releasing the third iteration of its Star Wars: The High Republic ongoing series and Shadows of Starlight, a miniseries chronicling the aftermath of the great disaster that concluded Phase I of The High Republic. Dark Horse is continuing its latest volume of Star Wars: The High Republic Adventures, which tells all-ages stories set during the High Republic era. Dark Horse also published Tales from the Death Star, its latest spooky Star Wars anthology, which arrived this week in time for the Halloween season.

Mace Windu appeared on the cover of Marvel's upcoming Star Wars: Revelations one-shot, which is meant to reveal the future of Star Wars comics. Marvel is entering its fifth year of telling stories set during the year between Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back and Star Wars: Return of the Jedi, which may be why it is wrapping up at least one series (Bounty Hunters) and launching new minis set during the prequel era.

Star Wars: Mace Windu #1 goes on sale in January. Star Wars: Jango Fett #1 follows in March.

Star Wars Prop of Original X-Wing Sells for Record-Setting $2.6 Million https://comicbook.com/starwars/news/star-wars-x-wing-model-prop-sells-sold-3-million-dollars-record-auction/ Mon, 16 Oct 2023 18:41:00 +0000 Kofi Outlaw 0b2bd1c5-5234-42f6-a526-6a6a684792f4

The model of a Star Wars X-wing starfighter - an original prop used in filming the original Star Wars movie A New Hope - has sold for a record-setting $3.135 million at a Heritage Auction in Dallas, Texas over the weekend.

The model X-wing was a piece from the collection of the late Oscar-nominated VFX specialist and model maker Greg Jein (Star Trek movies, Avatar, Oblivion, Interstellar), which had been thought lost for decades before turning up in one of the boxes found Jein's garage, following his death in May of 2022.

"Heritage just set the record for the most expensive Star Wars screen-used prop sold at auction," Joe Maddalena, exec vp Hollywood/entertainment memorabilia at Heritage Auctions, said in a statement to THR. "The worldwide response to the Greg Jein collections has been outstanding, a true testament to Greg and all he accomplished as visual effects artist and collector."

According to specs of the model provided at auction, this model X-wing was built by Industrial Light & Magic to be flown by "Red Leader" (or "Red One") in the climatic space dogfight between the Rebel Alliance and The Empire's Death Star base. The model is "one of just four 'hero' filming miniatures with articulating servo-controlled wings and lights, used for close-up shots of the dogfight during the final battle, including the iconic trench run sequence.

VFX historian Gene Kozicki explained to THR just how significant this particular Star Wars prop really is: "This model has not been displayed or modified since it left ILM. For those of us that grew up in the '70s or '80s, and those of us that work in visual effects, this model is as significant a find as the ruby red slippers or the Maltese Falcon."

star-wars-model-x-wing-prop-sells-for-record-3-million-at-auction.jpg
(Photo: Lucasfilm)

He added that this particular X-wing model had become more than a mystery when it went missing: it became a myth of the industry: "It became something of a mythical 'white whale' -- the missing Star Wars X-wing."

Obviously these days Star Wars Memorabilia is a major source of value and wealth. Auctions of props, costumes, artwork, and other elements of various Star Wars productions routinely sell for high price at auction, and/or end up in the collections of passionate (read: wealthy) collectors. The record-setting price for this model X-wing makes sense given the 'mythical' status it earned during its years being lost.

Star Wars movies and TV series can be streamed on Disney+.

Star Wars Actor Ahmed Best Wants To Play Blue Marvel https://comicbook.com/marvel/news/star-wars-actor-jar-jar-binks-ahmed-best-wants-to-play-blue-marvel/ Sat, 14 Oct 2023 02:02:00 +0000 Jamie Jirak 90499ad9-59f2-4c50-b17d-0432367177dc

Ahmed Best is known for playing Jar Jar Binks in Star Wars, and the actor recently returned to the franchise as Jedi Master Kelleran Beq. Like many actors, Best is interested in being in more than one Disney franchise. The actor previously expressed interest in playing Mister Fantastic, and now he's taken to social media with another casting idea: Blue Marvel. Blue Marvel/Adam Bernard Brashear was first introduced by Marvel Comics in 2008 in Adam: Legend of the Blue Marvel #1. The character was created by Kevin Grevioux and Mat Brome, and has many powers including superhuman strength, speed, and mental perception.

"I think I would make a dope #bluemarvel @kevinfeige @marvel @marvelstudios. As my mother would say #manifesting LOL. #starwars #jedi #kelleranbeq #prequels #themarvels #jarjarbinks #themandalorian illustration by @dieselfunk," Best shared on Instagram. You can check out the post below:

Ahmed Best Recalls "Lowest Point" After Playing Jar Jar Binks:

Recently, Best spoke with The Guardian about his Star Wars history and his appearance on the new podcast, The Redemption of Jar Jar Binks. Best has spoken before about contemplating suicide, and during the interview, he recalled the moment he stood on the Brooklyn Bridge as he thought about taking his own life.

"I'll show all of you. I'll show you what you're doing to me. And when I'm gone, then you'll feel exactly what I went through," the actor remembered thinking. "It was terrible," Best explained. "It was the lowest I've been in my life," he added, saying he struggled to leave his home at the time.

Best added of getting to save Grogu in The Mandalorian, "It really felt good ... As an artist, I lost my confidence for so many years, but The Mandalorian gave me that affirmation of 'You were always doing the right thing ... It wasn't you.'"

Will Ahmed Best Ever Play Jar Jar Binks Again?

Despite the Jar Jar Binks backlash, Best has said he'd be open to playing the Gungan again. "I would return as #jarjarbinks but it really depends on the story," the actor tweeted when a fan asked about a possible return back in 2020. Some fans thought he might pop up in Obi-Wan Kenobi last year, but it did not end up happening.

"Not as far as I know, no. I haven't been asked," Best shared with Jamie Stangroom's YouTube channel about being involved in the Ewan McGregor-led series. "I just don't know. To be completely honest I think Jar Jar is something Lucasfilm are trying to move away from, I'm not going to hold my breath for a Jar Jar cameo in Obi-Wan but you know, who knows."

Ahsoka: New Video Shows Hayden Christensen Discussing Anakin Skywalker's Return https://comicbook.com/starwars/news/ahsoka-season-finale-new-video-hayden-christensen-anakin-skywalker-star-wars-return/ Thu, 12 Oct 2023 23:57:00 +0000 Jamie Jirak 3a37352f-535b-4ab2-b037-917995a59202

Star Wars: Ahsoka came to an end earlier this month, and it teased a lot of excitement for the future. Last year, Star Wars prequels star Hayden Christensen returned to the role of Anakin Skywalker in Obi-Wan Kenobi, and he came back again this year in Ahsoka. Ahsoka (Rosario Dawson) encounters Anakin in the World Between Worlds and he's seen again when Ahsoka watches him in an old training video. The series then ends with Anakin's Force Ghost watching over his former padawan. Since the finale, the official social media accounts for Star Wars have been sharing videos of actors breaking down their characters. The latest features Christensen talking about his latest return to the franchise.

"I was blown away," Christensen said of reading the Ahsoka scripts. "I was thrilled to come back and do more with this character, and to get to work with these people that I really admired." The actor goes on to thank fans and reveal how "special" it has been to be a part of the franchise. You can check out the video in the post below:

Will Ahsoka Get a Season 2?

Last week, Deadline reported that "Ahsoka Season 2 is more of a reality in the conversation, though nothing is locked yet." Considering Ahsoka's ties with The Mandalorian and showrunner Dave Filoni's future film plans, it's pretty likely we'll be seeing the Ahsoka characters again.

Stay tuned for more updates about Ahsoka.

Ewan McGregor Supports Actors' Strike at New York Comic Con https://comicbook.com/starwars/news/ewan-mcgregor-supports-actors-strike-at-new-york-comic-con/ Thu, 12 Oct 2023 22:51:00 +0000 Jamie Jirak a86fb299-ab98-4eac-b7ab-31730a5d8e58

New York Comic Con kicked off today, and some major stars are in attendance despite the SAG strike, which is expected to get extended. Obi-Wan Kenobi star Ewan McGregor had a spotlight panel at NYCC, marking his first time at the con. According to the NYCC site, actors in attendance are able to participate in autographs and photo ops, but celebrity guests who appear in struck properties are only able to sign personal headshots rather than images of them as their characters. As for the panels, actors are not able to "talk about past, current or upcoming projects from struck properties and studios." However, they can "discuss their backgrounds in film and TV, their personal hobbies, and their work outside of their film/TV careers." During McGregor's panel, the actor spoke in support of the SAG strike.

"This is the first thing like this I've done and it's been a decision to do it, but I really wanted to take part," McGregor explained. "And it's difficult for us to be up here and not be allowed to talk about our actual films I'm sure you would want to hear about, and so I apologize for that. But we - that's just the way we have to do it I suppose. But it was important to come and see you all meet you all and be part of this relationship, you know, between the people we make the films for and, and the people that make them so yeah, so I'm happy to be here."

Will Ewan McGregor Play Obi-Wan Kenobi Again?

Despite Obi-Wan Kenobi being billed as a one-season limited series, McGregor is hopeful he might return to the character. "I was so happy to do it again, and so happy to work with Hayden again," McGregor said during a virtual conversation on the Disney Studios Awards website before the SAG strike. "I hope we get the chance to do it again."

"In the old days, I would joke about, 'There must be a good story to tell between Episode III and VI.' But, it's true. I always felt that there was," McGregor said. "I feel like [series director] Deborah Chow found it and absolutely nailed it ... just found the story that we wanted to see between the last one that we did and first that was done in [1977]."

Stay tuned for more updates from NYCC.

Star Wars Jedi: Survivor's BD Droids Come to Life at Disneyland's Galaxy's Edge https://comicbook.com/starwars/news/star-wars-jedi-survivors-bd-droids-come-to-life-at-disneylands-galaxys-edge/ Thu, 12 Oct 2023 18:09:00 +0000 Patrick Cavanaugh 0a5033a8-ee9a-4d88-a72b-b9cf432d9a26

The fun at Star Wars: Galaxy's Edge continues to expand at Disneyland, as today saw the park testing some BD droids that will be able to roam the park, as made popular in the Star Wars Jedi: Survivor video game. In video footage, courtesy of Disneyland News Today, these droids look just as adorable in the real world as they look in the video game, and while it's unclear what their future will be at the park, seeing them walking around the Black Spire Outpost has us excited that we could start to encounter them at Galaxy's Edge in the near future.

The outlet noted that the droids are currently only being referred to by their colors, as opposed to having official names. In Star Wars Jedi: Survivor, audiences spend the most time with BD-1.

Galaxy's Edge fans have had the chance to encounter other droids at the attraction, but especially with there being so many astromech droids in the style of R2-D2 seen rolling around, watching these pint-sized droids trotting around on legs as opposed to wheels is quite the sight to see.

These BD droids aren't the only recent additions to Galaxy's Edge, as the debut of the live-action Star Wars: Ahsoka TV series has seen a number of figures from that program also making appearances at Galaxy's Edge. In recent weeks, fans have spotted Ahsoka Tano appearing at Galaxy's Edge, allowing fans of the character that debuted in Star Wars: The Clone Wars and returned for Star Wars Rebels, The Mandalorian, and Star Wars: The Book of Boba Fett to meet the Jedi.

Another fan-favorite character from animated projects, Rebels' Hera Syndulla, also recently started appearing at Galaxy's Edge, having made her live-action debut in Ahsoka. Often joining Hera at Galaxy's Edge is Chopper, the temperamental droid who similarly made a live-action debut in Ahsoka.

The debut of these droids helps showcase the sprawling nature of the galaxy far, far away and the various opportunities Galaxy's Edge has to create a sprawling and immersive experience. In the lightsaber-building experience, for example, fans have been able to incorporate lightsaber elements from Rebels' Ezra Bridger and Jedi: Survivor's Cal Kestis's weapons.

Stay tuned for updates on Star Wars: Galaxy's Edge.

What do you think of the droids? Let us know in the comments or contact Patrick Cavanaugh directly on Twitter to talk all things Star Wars and horror!

Star Wars: Young Jedi Adventures Releases New Trailer https://comicbook.com/starwars/news/star-wars-young-jedi-adventures-releases-new-trailer/ Thu, 12 Oct 2023 17:58:00 +0000 Jamie Jirak d420eecb-0e39-44c4-9a0a-42ace8929f5d

The Disney Junior series Star Wars: Young Jedi Adventures debuted on Disney+ on May 4th with seven episodes, and another six episodes were released in August with the tease of a Life Day special coming in November. The animated series is aimed at younger audiences and is set 200 years before Star Wars: The Phantom Menace during the High Republic era. The show "follows Jedi younglings as they study the ways of the Force, explore the galaxy, help citizens and creatures in need, and learn valuable skills needed to become Jedi along the way." Today, the franchise shared a trailer for the first season's newest batch of upcoming episodes, including "Life Day."

"On November 8, the adventure continues with new episodes of Star Wars: Young Jedi Adventures on Disney Junior and Disney+," Star Wars captioned the new trailer. You can check it out below:

When the Life Day special was announced, StarWars.com described the episode as follows: "Kai, Lys, and Nubs, along with Masters Yoda and Zia, on a trip to Kashyyyk to celebrate and learn more about the Wookiees' holiday traditions. In addition, even more episodes of Young Jedi Adventures Season 1 are confirmed for 2024."

What Is Life Day in Star Wars?

The Star Wars Holiday Special was released in 1978 and became instantly infamous. The TV special is considered the worst thing to ever come out of the franchise, but it did include some big moments such as the introduction of the fan-favorite character, Boba Fett. The special saw Han and Chewbacca visiting the Wookiee home planet of Kashyyyk to celebrate their biggest holiday, "Life Day." While the holiday special may not have turned out to be everything George Lucas had hoped, Life Day has lived on.

What Age Range Is Young Jedi Adventures For?

"Star Wars transcends generations; fans of all ages deeply connect with its imaginative worlds, mythic stories, and unique characters," James Waugh, Young Jedi Adventures' executive producer and senior vice president, Franchise Content & Strategy at Lucasfilm previously explained. "When developing Star Wars: Young Jedi Adventures, the first Star Wars series created for preschoolers, the creative team never stopped thinking about how this show may be a youngling's first step into a larger world, and their first time experiencing the limitless potential of the Star Wars galaxy. The show's characters, tone, and the life lessons woven throughout each episode were written just for them, and our talented team was committed to honoring the cinematic legacy while staying true to the expectations of parents for the youngest of audiences."

Young Jedi Adventures returns on November 8th.

Ahsoka: Watch Barbie Star Ariana Greenblatt Talk About Her Star Wars Debut https://comicbook.com/starwars/news/ahsoka-watch-barbie-star-ariana-greenblatt-talk-about-her-star-wars-debut/ Wed, 11 Oct 2023 22:55:00 +0000 Jamie Jirak 9a8dcb18-0dcc-43ab-9be9-b910e226781e

After rising to fame as Sasha in Barbie earlier this year, Ariana Greenblatt made a surprise appearance in the fifth episode of Star Wars: Ahsoka as a young version of the titular character. The younger version of Ahsoka Tano was originally voiced by Ashley Eckstein in Star Wars: Clone Wars, who went on to voice an older version of the character in Star Wars Rebels. Now, older Ahsoka is played by Rosario Dawson in live-action. The fifth episode of Ahsoka marked the first time the character had been seen young in live-action, and it made fans realize Ahsoka was just a kid when she was fighting the war during her Jedi training. Today, the official social media accounts for Star Wars shared a video of Greenblatt talking about embodying Ahsoka and channeling Dawson's performance.

"ariana_greenblatt a stan for #TheCloneWars? she's just like me #Ahsoka now streaming on @DisneyPlus. (Previously recorded.)," Star Wars shared on Instagram. "I watched a ton of Clone Wars episodes," Greenblatt explains in the video. "I mean, when I was getting ready for rehearsal, it was just always on in the background."

Greenblatt goes on to explain that although she is portraying younger Ahsoka, the character still has her adult mind after encountering Anakin Skywalker (Hayden Christensen) in the World Between Worlds. "So I had to combine the characters," Greenblatt explained of younger and older Ahsoka. You can watch Greebblatt talk about visiting Dawson on set in the video below:

Will Ahsoka Get a Season 2?

If you felt bad when the Razor Crest was blown up in Season 2 of Star Wars: The Mandalorian, we have good news. You can rebuild it in painstaking detail with the Star Wars 75331 Razor Crest set. This Ultimate Collector Series (UCS) release includes 6,187 pieces, which makes it third biggest in the LEGO Star Wars lineup behind the UCS 75192 Millennium Falcon (7,541 pieces) and 75313 UCS AT-AT (6,785 pieces). Overall, it ranks as the seventh biggest LEGO set of all-time, and your chance to score a very rare deal on it is happening right here on Amazon where it is priced at $479.99. That's 20% off the $600 list price and an all-time low.

Note that the LEGO Star Wars UCS Luke Skywalker's Landspeeder 75341 set is also 20% off for Prime Day, and you can grab it here on Amazon while the deal lasts. While you're at it, make sure to check out the brand new UCS 75367 Star Wars Venator-Class Republic Attack Cruiser that launched earlier this month with 5,374 pieces.

When complete, the 75331 Razor Crest LEGO set will measure over 28-inches long, which makes it roughly 2.5 times larger than the previously released 75292 Razor Crest set (1023 pieces). Features include removable engines and a cockpit, an escape pod, and a minifigure-sized carbon-freezing chamber. Speaking of minifigures, the set includes Grogu, the Mandalorian, Mythrol, and Kuiil on a buildable Blurrg model. You can take a closer look in the gallery below.

Cesar Soares, LEGO Designer, commented, "It was amazing to design The Mandalorian's Razor Crest in brick form! I wanted it to be ultra-detailed so that every Star Wars and LEGO fan can enjoy discovering all the exciting features - from the carbon-freezing chamber to the escape pod. I know that fans of the Star Wars galaxy, builders and more will love recreating their favourite adventures from this extraordinary series".

Guillermo Del Toro Talks Scrapped Star Wars Movie https://comicbook.com/movies/news/guillermo-del-toro-cancelled-star-wars-movie-jabba-the-hutt/ Mon, 09 Oct 2023 16:55:00 +0000 Cameron Bonomolo c7e994b1-0843-4e5e-b34e-31a548f0eb43

Not so long ago in a galaxy not so far, far away, Guillermo del Toro developed a scrapped Star Wars spin-off about Jabba the Hutt. After screenwriter David S. Goyer revealed he wrote an unproduced Star Wars movie for Del Toro, the Oscar-winning The Shape of Water filmmaker confirmed he developed his Star Wars story "MANY, MANY moons ago" and tweeted a hint: "J and BB." In a new interview with Collider for the 10th anniversary of 2013's Pacific Rim, Del Toro confirmed the project was about the "rise and fall" of Tatooine's resident crime lord.

"We had the rise and fall of Jabba the Hutt, so I was super happy. We were doing a lot of stuff, and then it's not my property, it's not my money, and then it's one of those 30 screenplays that goes away," Del Toro said. "Sometimes I'm bitter, sometimes I'm not. I always turn to my team and say, 'Good practice, guys. Good practice. We designed a great world. We designed great stuff. We learned.' You can never be ungrateful with life. Whatever life sends you, there's something to be learned from it. So, you know, I trust the universe, I do. When something doesn't happen, I go, 'Why?' I try to have a dialogue with myself. 'Why didn't it happen?' And the more you swim upstream with the universe, the less you're gonna realize where you're going."

The Pan's Labyrinth and Hellboy filmmaker -- who next resurrects Frankenstein's monster in his adaptation of Frankenstein -- didn't explain why Disney's Lucasfilm didn't move forward with the Jabba the Hutt movie. After spin-offs Rogue One and Solo: A Star Wars Story, Lucasfilm scrapped plans for Obi-Wan Kenobi and Boba Fett feature films that eventually made it to Disney+ as live-action series.

"It was just a lot of behind the scenes stuff going on at Lucasfilm at the time. It's a cool script," Goyer said on the Happy Sad Confused podcast about Del Toro's Star Wars movie, adding: "It's a cool story. There's a lot of cool artwork of it that was produced."

Star Wars has been on a theatrical hiatus since Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker concluded the nine-episode Skywalker Saga in 2019. At Star Wars Celebration Europe 2023, Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy announced three new Star Wars movies from directors James Mangold (Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny), Dave Filoni (Star Wars: Ahsoka), and Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy (Ms. Marvel).

New Star Wars Video Game Collection Revealed for Nintendo Switch https://comicbook.com/gaming/news/star-wars-heritage-pack-physical-release-nintendo-switch/ Mon, 09 Oct 2023 03:30:00 +0000 Marc Deschamps 2955edda-0678-4451-be13-cba904ad23bb

Over the last few years, a number of classic Star Wars games have been brought to Nintendo Switch by Aspyr. Seven remasters have released on the eShop in total, where they've been available for purchase separately, or recently as part of a bundle known as the Star Wars: Heritage Pack. On December 8th, the Heritage Pack will be coming to retailers as part of a physical release that will cost $59.99. The Pack will include the following seven games:

  • Star Wars Jedi Knight: Jedi Academy
  • Star Wars Jedi Knight II: Jedi Outcast
  • Star Wars Episode I: Racer
  • Star Wars: Republic Commando
  • Star Wars: The Force Unleashed
  • Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic
  • Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic II: The Sith Lords

Of those seven games, five will be on the physical cartridge itself. Unfortunately, Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic and Knights of the Old Republic II: The Sith Lords will both require a download. Pre-orders for the compilation have already opened. Readers interested in pre-ordering Star Wars: Heritage Pack can do so from Best Buy right here, or from Target right here. Those that aren't as interested in physical games can also find the collection right now on the Nintendo Switch eShop.

Best Star Wars Game Ever

For those unfamiliar with the games in Star Wars: Heritage Pack, several have become fan favorites through the decades. Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic in particular is often considered one of the best Star Wars games ever made. Guardians of the Galaxy director James Gunn is a very big fan of the game, having called it his personal favorite piece of Star Wars media overall. Gunn is hardly the only person to express this opinion, as fans have been singing the RPG's praises since it first released on the original Xbox back in 2003. For those that have never had a chance to experience Knights of the Old Republic, the Heritage Pack is the perfect opportunity to do so!

Star Wars Legends

At one point, the games in the Star Wars: Heritage Pack were considered part of official continuity, but that changed following Disney's purchase of the franchise. As such, these games are now considered part of the Star Wars Legends branding. While the stories themselves might not fit into current Star Wars continuity, elements from some of these games have lived on in various ways, just as Legends characters like Thrawn have gone on to appear in shows like Star Wars Rebels and Ahsoka. Star Wars: The Force Unleashed introduced players to Starkiller, an apprentice of Darth Vader. While Starkiller has yet to appear in Disney's Star Wars, the character's helmet did make a background appearance in Andor.

Are you planning to pick-up Star Wars: Heritage Pack when it releases later this year? What's your favorite Star Wars video game? Share your thoughts with me directly on Twitter at @Marcdachamp or on Instagram at @Dachampgaming!

Star Wars: Skeleton Crew New Plot Details Reportedly Revealed https://comicbook.com/tv-shows/news/star-wars-skeleton-crew-details-synopsis-revealed/ Sat, 07 Oct 2023 22:20:00 +0000 Adam Barnhardt c63f5ae6-d992-4b96-9e1b-d53715904df9

Now that the first season of Ahsoka has now been released in its entirety, the next thing up for Lucasfilm's Star Wars brand is Skeleton Crew. The series was initially pitched as a series tonally similar to films like The Goonies or Stand By Me, but set in a galaxy far, far away--a notion now confirmed by the studio's first copyright filing. According to the filing, a group of four kids make a discovery that's both strange and dangerous, and that effectively serves as the crux of the series.

"In the first episode of the Skeleton Crew we are introduced to four kids who make a mysterious discovery on their seemingly safe home planet and get lost in a strange and dangerous galaxy," the new synopsis reads. "Finding their way home, meeting unlikely allies and enemies, will be a great adventure than they ever imagined."

Will Skeleton Crew crossover with The Mandalorian and Ahsoka?

The filing also confirms Jon Watts directed the pilot episode, with the primary cast members being Jude Law, Ryan Kiera Armstrong, Robert Timothy Smith, Ravi Cavot-Conyers, Kyrianna Kratter.

It's expected Skeleton Crew will take place in the same part of the timeline as Lucasfilm's other Star Wars shows on Disney+, with The Mandalorian creator Jon Favreau previously suggesting the characters from the serious popping up in other projects around the same time.

"To have this young, Amblin-feeling movie with young people, who grew up in the Star Wars world and are exposed to adventure," Favreau shared of Skeleton Crew during a conversation for Entertainment Weekly earlier this year. "The puppets, the costumes, the visuals, the world that's being expanded upon. And now I get to write the next season of Mandalorian with all these new characters and new locations and new creatures ... There's this cohesive group of stories that are being told thanks to all these filmmakers that are contributing."

Star Wars: Skeleton Crew is expected to premiere on Disney+ at a later date. If you haven't checked out Disney+ yet and you want to give it a go, you can do that here.

Shawna Trpcic, The Mandalorian & Ahsoka Costume Designer, Dead at 56 https://comicbook.com/starwars/news/shawna-trpcic-mandalorian-ahsoka-costume-designer-dead/ Sat, 07 Oct 2023 01:01:00 +0000 Spencer Perry ba5b064c-3d7f-4227-9555-6ed587ae5561

Shawna Trpcic, an Emmy-nominated costume designer whose credits include The Mandalorian and Ahsoka, has passed away. News of her passing came via the Costume Designers Guild, who posted the following message on X (formerly Twitter): "With great sadness, we inform you that multiple Emmy-nominated and CDG Award-winning costume designer Shawna Trpcic has passed away unexpectedly. Shawna was one of Hollywood's pre-eminent science fiction costume designers - a creative force, a trusted collaborator, and all-around delightful person for her friends and colleagues." Lucasfilm eulogized Trpcic in a post on the official StarWars.com website. In a statement, her Mandalorian and Ahsoka collaborators Dave Filoni and Jon Favreau paid tribute to her, writing:

"Shawna had a deep love and appreciation for Star Wars," said Filoni. "You can see that in every piece of work she did with us. She loved everything about being a part of these stories, including connecting with fans and being a part of that community. I feel like she has always been a part of Star Wars. Her costumes tell a story, providing the suggestion of a life experience that happened before the cameras rolled. I loved collaborating with Shawna, and I will miss her presence."

"Her creativity brought this world to life," Favreau added. "She will be deeply missed both as a friend and as a colleague."

Though fans know her work from the recent Star Wars shows on Disney+, Shawna Trpcic's work as a costume designer began in the 1990s working as a costume designer on several feature films. In 1993 she would make her first mark on fan culture, serving as the costume designer for the first forty episodes of Mighty Morphin Power Rangers. From there she would collabrate on several other fan-favorite shows, working as the costume designer for hit shows like Firefly, Angel, Dollhouse, and Torchwood, plus movies like The Cabin in the Woods and Much Ado About Nothing.

In 2020, Trpcic would join the crew for The Mandalorian, working as the costume designer for seasons 2 and 3 of the hit Star Wars TV series. She would go on to work as the costume designer for The Book of Boba Fett and Ahsoka as well. Trpcic was previously nominated for a Primetime Emmy for her work on The Mandalorian Season 2 and The Book of Boba Fett. The most recent Primetime Emmy Awards nominated her again, this time for her work on The Mandalorian Season 3.

A GoFundMe in memory of Shawna has also made its way online, organized by costumer Elissa Alcala, who collaborated with Shawna Trpcic on The Book of Boba Fett

ComicBook Nation: Loki Season 2 Premiere & Exorcist: Believer Review https://comicbook.com/tv-shows/news/loki-season-2-spoilers-wwe-fastlane-predictions-exorcist-believer-ending-box-office/ Sat, 07 Oct 2023 00:52:00 +0000 Kofi Outlaw f1024580-96be-4b13-a269-c7041da14fe5

In this episode, the ComicBook Nation Crew reviews new horror films The Exorcist: Believer and Pet Sematary: Bloodlines as well as the much-anticipated premiere of Marvel's Loki Season 2. PLUS: Reactions to Gen V Episode 4, a full preview of WWE's Fastlane event, and the newest comics!

The Exorcist: Believer Review

In his 2-star review of Exorcist: Believer, ComicBook Nation host Kofi Outlaw said the following:

Exorcist: Believer captures the "legacy" of the original in name only - even after dragging the original film star Ellen Burstyn back into the franchise... an unbalanced mess of a story, that doesn't ever seem to know where to put its focus... The Exorcist: Believer feels like it will go down as an odd and misguided attempt at a direct sequel - one that fails to provide any new soul to the franchise...

Loki Season 2 Review

(Photo: Marvel Studios)

In her Loki Season 2 review, ComicBook.com's Nicole Drum said the following:

Loki may be one of the MCU's most innovative and significant offerings, and Season 2 of the series certainly maintains the spirit of the first season and pushes not only Loki's story but the future of the MCU forward. But like the Sacred Timeline itself, Loki Season 2 shows signs of coming apart in places with little bits that could stand refinement, reconsideration, or even just a strong bit of editing. Season 2 definitely doesn't suffer from some of the pitfalls that would make people continue to question if superhero fatigue is real or not, but through characterizations, pacing, and too much self-awareness, it definitely feels like a very different show. It's by no means bad, but it certainly feels like most of the fun will be in digesting each episode after the fact, rather than taking it in for what it is just while watching.

Ahsoka: Watch Mary Elizabeth Winstead Breaks Down Hera Syndulla https://comicbook.com/starwars/news/ahsoka-watch-mary-elizabeth-winstead-breaks-down-hera-syndulla/ Fri, 06 Oct 2023 22:00:00 +0000 Jamie Jirak c47161b8-8bac-4539-bc59-c7f3389b8833

The final episode of Star Wars: Ahsoka's first season was released on Disney+ this week, and it set up a lot of excitement for the future. Fans of the franchise ended up loving the show and its ties to the animated series Star Wars: Clone Wars and Star Wars Rebels. One animated character that was brought to life in live-action during Ahsoka was Hera Syndulla, who is played by Scott Pilgrim and Birds of Prey star, Mary Elizabeth Winstead. Today, Star Wars took to social media to share a behind-the-scenes video of Winstead breaking down her character.

"Space mother is mothering," Star Wars captioned in the post. "Oh my god, I'm in Star Wars," Winstead excitedly proclaims in the video. She goes on to talk about Hera, calling her the "ultimate space mom" and explaining how she's a "mother figure" to everyone in her life, including her own son, Jacen (Evan Whitten). You can check out the video below:

"Having a character who's already existed and has such a rich history on something like Rebels, as an actor, it's incredible," Winstead explained in a previous interview with Entertainment Weekly's Dagobah Dispatch podcast. "Because sometimes we're tasked with creating our own backstories or trying to flesh out a character that doesn't really have that much on the page. And so to play a character that has season after season of storylines and complex histories with everyone in their life and relationships and experiences was really something I've never experienced quite like that... To have Rebels to refer to, and to have [Rebels and Ahsoka creator Dave Filoni] to speak to about it every day on set, was a real luxury for sure."

Will Ahsoka Get a Season 2?

This week, Deadline reported that "Ahsoka Season 2 is more of a reality in the conversation, though nothing is locked yet." Considering Ahsoka's ties with The Mandalorian and showrunner Dave Filoni's future film plans, it's pretty likely we'll be seeing the Ahsoka characters again.

Star Wars Teases a Fight Between C-3PO and Darth Vader https://comicbook.com/starwars/news/star-wars-preview-teases-darth-vader-c3po-fight-dark-droids-3-comic/ Fri, 06 Oct 2023 21:02:00 +0000 Kofi Outlaw 2830d11a-156e-4088-9c24-4dd6ab7d71b4 Star Wars is teasing an epic duel between two of the most unlikely opponents to face one another: Darth Vader and C-3PO!

If you're wondering how Star Wars' anxious protocol droid stands a chance against one of the most powerful Jedi/Sith Lords ever, the answer can be found in the current "Dark Droids" crossover event that's taking place in Star Wars comics. Dark Droids has introduced the threat of "The Scourge," a machine entity born from the union of the ancient AI tech known as the Spark Eternal, and a deadly droid the Sith once locked away in a prison realm that exists outside of time and space. Once it became self-aware, The Scourge set out on a dark mission: to conquer the galaxy and establish its own version of peace and order. To do that, Scourge has started corrupting and possessing every droid it comes into contact with - the Imperial droids, Rebel droids, and every machine in between those two warring factions.

(Photo: Marvel Comics)

After conversing with Luke Skywalker, The Scourge came to the realization that cyborg beings are the key link between helping take control of the power behind all organic life: The Force. Scourge used its widespread vision across multiple bodies to identify the perfect being to corrupt: Darth Vader, a cybernetic being who is also one of the most powerful Force wielders in the galaxy. Scourge made its play to get Vader (whose Force powers were disrupted by Scourge's "birth") but failed - but that doesn't mean the plan has changed...

Early on in Dark Droids, it was revealed that C-3PO is one of the droids that The Scourge corrupted. Well, in the new preview for Dark Droids #3, we find Scourge piloting 3PO to Castle Vadar on planet Mustafar. The AI reflects on the immense danger of the mission and the likelihood that C-3PO and other droids on site will die in the attempt. That danger doesn't stop Scourge, who jumps fully into C-3PO's body and prepares to face Vader.

dark-droids-3-preview-c3po-vs-darth-vader-fight-duel.jpg
(Photo: Marvel Comics)

Obviously, no one is really expecting C-3PO to take on Darth Vader in a direct confrontation or duel - that would be over all too quickly. Instead, the real threat of The Scourge is its corruption of tech; C-3PO could make its way into Castle Vader and corrupt its systems, turning Vader's lair into a Saw-style trap. That would definitely be an issue worth reading...

The Dark Droids event is currently unfolding in various Star Wars comic books released by Marvel.

Exorcist's David Gordon Green Addresses Star Wars Rumors, "I'd Never Say No" https://comicbook.com/starwars/news/star-wars-david-gordon-green-movie-reaction-lucasfilm-explained-interest/ Fri, 06 Oct 2023 20:11:00 +0000 Patrick Cavanaugh 1cc1600b-6b37-4cea-bb05-e8c2bcf92118

After already reviving the Halloween franchise with financial success, and director David Gordon Green having just debuted his first installment of a planned trilogy of The Exorcist films with The Exorcist: Believer, and having also been attached to a revival of Hellraiser, studios are clearly quite interested in tapping the director for projects in major franchises. One franchise we shouldn't expect him to jump into quite yet is the Star Wars series, as he recently detailed that, while he took meetings at Lucasfilm and has plenty of nostalgic memories connected to the franchise, it was only a tentative consultation about possible stories in the galaxy far, far away.

"I've met with some folks there but there's never been a project or an idea. Those kinds of meetings are fun, and I do know a lot about, at least the old Star Wars movies, and those are really fun and a very strong part of my excitement as a kid watching movies was those movies," Green expressed to the Happy Sad Confused podcast. "I can remember the Chuck E. Cheese tokens, when I was standing in line for `Return of the Jedi, the Wednesday after it was released, and I'm still waiting in a line, my mom went and got tickets early in the morning and I'm there for an eight-o-clock show, and a guy gave me a sh-tload of Chuck E. Cheese tokens and I couldn't decide whether I'm gonna stand in line with the anticipation of this movie or I was gonna go to Chuck E. Cheese and play video games. I just held the bag of tokens, filled my pockets, and went the next week."

He added, "The reality is, again, the mechanism, I think, might look at me too skeptically. Like anything, there's executives that want to know who's out there and what they're thinking. 'Hey, he's dusted off a Halloween franchise,' or, 'He's working on an Exorcist franchise, I wonder if he's got something creative to bring to the table.' But my impulses are always pretty eccentric."

Green's forays into the world of horror might be relatively straightforward, but that's not to say that they've all been expected experiences, with the director going on to express that whatever story he would conjure up for Star Wars would likely be outside of the studio's expectations.

The director confirmed to the podcast, "I would be very curious, too, of where that would go. But, I don't know, I would never say 'no' because every time I say 'never' is when I get the phone call that makes me excited about something, but I've learned those lessons."

The Exorcist: Believer is out now in theaters. While Lucasfilm has announced multiple feature-film projects, it's currently unclear which will be the first to move forward.

What do you think of the director's remarks? Let us know in the comments or contact Patrick Cavanaugh directly on Twitter to talk all things Star Wars and horror!
