An AEW fan-favorite event is making a return later this year. During the first match of tonight's episode of AEW Collision, AEW revealed that a Winter is Coming special edition of AEW Dynamite would be returning in 2023, and it will take place on December 13th. This year's Winter is Coming will take place at the College Park Center in Arlington Texas (via Fightful), and the event has been a favorite since it started in 2020. It's not known which matches will take place at the event just yet, but there has always been an AEW World Championship match at Winter is Coming, and that tradition is likely to continue, so MJF will probably be defending his Title that week.

Several memorable moments have occurred at past Winter is Coming events. That includes the AEW debut of Sting, which has become synonymous with the event, and that same event also included Kenny Omega defeating Jon Moxley for the AEW World Championship.

2021's Winter is Coming was a bit less memorable, but still featured an AEW World Championship match between then Champion Hangman Adam Page and Bryan Danielson, though it did end in a time-limit draw. Wardlow, Hikaru Shida, and MJF were also featured in the episode that year.

2022's edition was a bit more eventful and was headlined by MJF defending his Championship from Ricky Starks. It wasn't just the Title on the line though, as the AEW Dynamite Diamond Ring was also up for grabs, and MJF walked away the victor. The fourth match in the best-of-seven series between Death Triangle and The Elite was also held, and Death Triangle would walk away with a 3 - 1 lead in the series. Jungle Boy, House of Black, Action Andretti, and Ruby Soho all got victories as well.

As for this year's Winter is Coming, no matches have been announced, but there are some possibilities. Wardlow already confronted MJF and is likely to get a Title shot, but it wasn't known if that would be at AEW World's End or something else. Winter is Coming could very well be the home for that match, though Samoa Joe is also continuing his campaign to battle MJF for the Title, and that could be a perfect match for the event as well. MJF is currently slated for a match against Jay White at Full Gear, and if White defeats him, it could change the Title picture and the list of challengers in a major way.

As for the AEW Women's Championship, Hikaru Shida could end up defending her Championship, but it's not known who might be in that spot. Like MJF, Shida is set to defend her AEW Women's Championship at Full Gear, where she will face Toni Storm. If Storm defeats her, we will likely have a new list of contenders for Winter is Coming, but we'll just have to wait and see. In the meantime, you can find the current card for AEW Full Gear below.

AEW Full Gear 2023 Card:

  • AEW World Championship Match: MJF (C) vs. Jay White
  • AEW Women's World Championship Match: Hikaru Shida (C) vs. Toni Storm
  • AEW International Championship Match: Orange Cassidy (C) vs. Jon Moxley
  • Swerve Strickland vs. Hangman Adam Page
  • Sting, Adam Copeland & Darby Allin vs. Christian Cage, Luchasaurus & Nick Wayne

WWE Crown Jewel Delivers One of Roman Reigns' Shortest Entrances https://comicbook.com/wwe/news/wwe-crown-jewel-roman-reigns-short-entrance/ Sat, 04 Nov 2023 20:47:00 +0000 Evan Valentine d74cac09-1c62-4288-984a-c32fa4b9d337

A professional wrestler's entrance is a big deal when it comes to shaping the careers of many superstars who have been a part of the WWE. Major stars like the Undertaker, John Cena, Stone Cold Steve Austin, and the Rock all have legendary entrances when it comes to their entrances to the squared circle. In the past, we've seen Roman Reigns take his time when it comes to making his way to the squared circle but in a twist of fate, the current Universal Champion wasted no time in hitting Crown Jewel.

Ultimately, Reigns was able to defeat LA Knight to retain his title, continuing his reign as the Universal Champion. While Roman was able to deliver some brutal moves to Knight during their one-on-one which acted as the main event of the latest pay-per-view event. While the latest entrance wasn't a "blink and you'll miss it affair", it did run a tad shorter than many of Reigns' other arrivals. Roman Reigns' entrance this time around ran for three minutes and fifty-nine seconds, with the Tribal Chief once again accompanied by Paul Heyman to reinforce his status as the one to be in World Wrestling Entertainment's roster.

Roman Reigns Quickly Enters The Ring

If you didn't have the chance to see Roman Reigns' entrance to the ring during this year's Crown Jewel, you can watch it by clicking here. Despite Roman's speedier-than-usual entrance, the match between Reigns and LA Knight lasted for quite some time as the two struggled for supremacy. Unfortunately for Knight, he won't be leaving Saudi Arabia with the Universal Championship this time around.

Prior to their match at this year's Crown Jewel, no love was lost between the two opponents. During this week's Smackdown, Roman Reigns even went so far as to call LA Knight a "redneck version of his cousin", aka the Rock. Roman then shared the following, "A lot's changed around here. I take my time to leave and I expect people to step up, but I didn't think it was ever going to be you. But you did something to catch the attention of these people. You managed your time wisely and got all these people on your side. I give you credit for that. It's not easy in this day and age...go ahead and chant his name."

WWE Crown Jewel: Roman Reigns Overcomes LA Knight and Retains Undisputed Universal Title https://comicbook.com/wwe/news/wwe-crown-jewel-roman-reigns-overcomes-la-knight-and-retains-undisputed-universal-title/ Sat, 04 Nov 2023 20:47:00 +0000 Matthew Aguilar 3dfa41f0-4a25-4b19-95de-d228fabe8931

The time had finally arrived for the main event of WWE Crown Jewel, and it was for the Undisputed WWE Universal Championship. The Tribal Chief Roman Reigns came back from some time away and was greeted by the surging star LA Knight, who had become one of WWE's biggest fan favorites since he was last regularly on SmackDown. The two have been going back and forth the past week weeks, and Knight seemed to get under Reigns' skin a bit last week. That led to tonight's Title match, and Knight was more than ready for the challenge. Knight took everything Roman had and even kicked out of a spear, but Reigns is the Champ for a reason, and he was able to weather the early storm of Knight. Then Knight was robbed of a win by Jimmy Uso, who put Roman's foot on the bottom rope during a pin. Knight got revenge on Jimmy, but Reigns took advantage and ultimately pinned Knight for the win. Reigns is still your Undisputed WWE Universal Champion.

Knight came out swinging, punching Reigns, but then Knight ran into a back elbow from the Champ. Reigns mocked Knight a bit before stomping on him, and then the crowd went into overdrive cheering Knight. Reigns got his neck pulled over the ropes and then he knocked the Champ down and went for the cover, but Reigns kicked out. Knight then caught Reigns and slammed him down, but Paul Heyman tried to get at the referee and distract him a bit so Reigns could roll out and catch his breath.

Knight then ran at Reigns and drop-kicked him through the ropes before hitting him with an elbow. Then Knight dove off the apron and clotheslined the Champ. Reigns punched Knight in the back and then tried to follow up by slamming him into the announce table, but Knight caught it and slammed Reigns into it instead. Unfortunately, Reigns slammed Knight into the steel steps next, stopping the challenger in his tracks.

Reigns slammed Knight into the steel steps again before getting into the ring, and the count started. Knight got back in the ring in time, and then Reigns threw Knight into the corner turnbuckle before shushing the crowd. Reigns kept talking with the crowd and then turned his attention to Knight again, slamming him down and going for a cover, but Knight kicked out. Reigns held Knight down and then knocked Knight down again with a clothesline into a pin attempt, but Knight kicked out again.

Reigns hit another clothesline in the corner, and then the crowd started chanting against Reigns. Reigns charged at Knight and collided with him in the corner, and Knight tried to get some space as Reigns kept exchanging comments with the crowd. Knight caught a charging Reigns with a back elbow, and then Knight caught Reigns with kicks to the face before hitting a DDT and knocking the Champion to the mat. Knight couldn't capitalize right away, and both superstars made it to their feet and exchanged strikes. Knight hit several strikes and then hit a crossbody on Reigns. Knight hit a Russian Leg Sweep and then hit a DDT before going for the cover, but Reigns kicked out.

Knight stayed on Reigns, stomping on him in the corner with the whole crowd saying "Yeah". Knight then hit a running knee strike on the Champ and went for a clothesline but Reigns hit a Rock Bottom into a pin attempt. Knight was able to kick out, and Reigns took a minute to taunt the crowd before going for a Superman Punch. Knight picked him up and then dropped him on his back, but then Reigns hit a Superman Punch and went for the cover, only to see Knight kick out once more. Reigns set up for the Spear, but Knight leaped over Reigns and Reigns hit the ring post. Knight stayed on Reigns, hitting some strikes and getting the Champ on the top rope for a Superplex. Reigns blocked it and knocked Knight down, but Knight jumped right back up and hit the Superplex.

Knight went for the elbow and got it, pinning Reigns, but Reigns kicked out at the very last second. Then Solo Sikoa and Jimmy Uso intervened, as Sikoa drew everyone to the top of the ramp while Jimmy pulled Reigns out of the ring. Knight then grabbed Jimmy, but Reigns hit Knight with a Superman Punch. Reigns went for a spear and got it on Knight, covering him, but Knight somehow kicked out. Reigns kept the pressure on Knight, trying to choke him out, but Knight got to his feet again. Knight then pinned Reigns but Jimmy put Reigns' foot on the bottom rope at the very last minute.

Reigns and Knight locked up on the outside, and Knight tried to deal with Jimmy once there too, slamming Jimmy into the announce table and shattering it. Reigns hit a spear and ran Knight through the barricade, and then once back in the ring, another spear sealed the win, allowing Reigns to retain the Undisputed WWE Universal Championship.

WWE Crown Jewel: IYO SKY Retains Women's Title with Help From Returning Kairi Sane https://comicbook.com/wwe/news/wwe-crown-jewel-iyo-sky-retains-womens-title-with-help-from-returning-kairi-sane/ Sat, 04 Nov 2023 19:54:00 +0000 Matthew Aguilar b7642c93-67c4-454a-b9b9-42e900d5fe3d

The WWE Women's Championship was on the line at Crown Jewel, as IYO SKY was set to defend her Title from Bianca Belair in Belair's long-awaited Title rematch. Belair was more than ready, hitting the gas right from the start and keeping the Champion from establishing any momentum. SKY was able to get going eventually, but the two superstars prepared for each other quite well, and they were able to anticipate one another's bigger moves. Bayley would then get involved, but Belair was able to keep her from giving SKY the win. Then a mysterious hooded individual jumped in and attacked Belair, and that turned out to be Kairi Sane making her anticipated WWE return. Sane attacked Belair and was able to set her up for a finishing move from SKY, allowing her to retain her Title. Bayley looked awfully worried too, as Sane and Bayley have some history.

Belair took control right from the jump, slamming SKY down twice and then shoving the Champ out of the ring. Belair then countered a move and slammed SKY into the ring apron and rolled her back into the ring. Belair grabbed SKY's hair and then hit a vertical suplex on the Champ before hitting a standing moonsault, but SKY kicked out of the cover.

Belair slammed SKY's face into the turnbuckle and then connected with multiple strikes in the corner. SKY grabbed the braid but Belair kicked her away and then hit a dropkick. Belair missed her next move though and ran her shoulder into the ring post, and SKY went at Belair's formerly hurt knee and did some damage. SKY pounced and went right after the knee again, and she continued to target the leg and knee, trying to take away Belair's athleticism.

Belair wouldn't stay down, but her leg did seem to be shaky at one point. SKY stomped on Belair and knocked the wind out of her before going for a pin, but Belair kicked out. SKY then locked up the leg in a submission, and Belair tried to punch the Champ to break the hold. Belair broke the hold and then Belair dodged a dropkick from the top rope, causing SKY to hit the mat.

Blair then went on a roll, slamming the Champion multiple times and then slamming SKY onto her knee before going for the pin. SKY kicked out, and then the Champ caught Belair when she was going to the top rope. SKY then hit a huge dropkick on the challenger and locked up Belair in a submission targeting the knee once again. Belair got to her feet and then threw SKY up in the air and slammed her face first on the mat, but it wasn't enough for the pin.

Belair got on a roll and she was able to catch SKY once again, slamming SKY to the mat for another pin attempt, but SKY got her shoulder up in time. SKY tried to pull Belair's braid but Belair was able to pull SKY into the turnbuckle. Bayley then got involved and distracted Belair a bit, setting SKY up for the cover, but SKY kicked out. Belair reversed a move and went for the KOD, but SKY got away and pulled Belair's neck on top of the ropes. SKY wrapped Belair's braid around the top rope and hit her with a number of knee strikes, causing the challenger to fall to the floor.

SKY went up top and set up for the moonsault. She hit the move and both slammed to the floor. SKY went for a move but was caught by Belair, who slammed her with a spine buster, but SKY kicked out of the pin attempt. SKY dodged Belair's next move and then pulled Belair into the second rope as she escaped again. Belair caught SKY again and she slammed the Champion down on the mat into a pin, but Bayley then got up on the ring apron and distracted the referee, causing no one to see the pin. Belair threw SKY out of the ring and then attacked Bayley, and then Belair dodged a charging SKY, causing SKY to slam into Bayley.

SKY was stunned and Belair slammed SKY into the barricade. As Belair was rolling SKY into the ring Bayley grabbed Belair's ankle and kept her from getting into the ring. Belair got rid of Bayley, but then a mysterious hooded figure came out and attacked Belair. The person turned out to be none other than a returning Kairi Sane, who attacked Belair again and kept her down on the floor. Sane hit from the referee who started the count out, but Belair was able to roll in at the last minute. SKY then hit the moonsault on Belair and got the pin, retaining her Title.

SKY was shocked to see Sane, and then Sky dragged Belair to the middle of the ring and that set up Sane to hit the elbow drop on Belair. Then SKY and Sane hugged and celebrated, and Bayley looked shocked and worried, as Sane's had issues with Bayley during her last run in WWE.

WWE Crown Jewel Card:

  • Undisputed WWE Universal Championship Match: Roman Reigns (C) vs LA Knight
  • Women's World Championship Match: Rhea Ripley (C) def. Nia Jax, Shayna Baszler, Raquel Rodriguez, and Zoey Stark
  • World Heavyweight Championship Match: Seth Rollins (C) def. Drew McIntyre

WWE Confirms War Games Return at Survivor Series https://comicbook.com/wwe/news/wwe-confirms-war-games-return-at-survivor-series/ Sat, 04 Nov 2023 19:26:00 +0000 Matthew Aguilar f7f870ed-e789-4afa-a3f9-84212bfef664

After Crown Jewel, WWE will shift its focus to Survivor Series, which is set to take place in Chicago on November 25th. There are several bigger questions going into the event, but one of the questions had to do with War Games. War Games was a part of last year's event, but WWE had been silent on whether it would return. During Crown Jewel WWE revealed a new ad for the event, and that's when the War Games logo was shown for the first time. Now the fun part begins, as WWE will start setting up the teams on Monday Night Raw and SmackDown. It is also expected that there will be a Men's and Women's War Games match on the card like last year, but hopefully, more details will be revealed on next week's shows.

Last year's Survivor Series was the first time a War Games match had been on the main roster card, as before that it was featured on NXT TakeOvers. The debut outing was good for both matches, and due to the team format, having factions like Judgement Day and The Bloodline makes sense since they have so many enemies. It's also a chance for other stars to shine in a team setting, and there are plenty who could benefit from that spotlight.

War Games is a fan favorite for a variety of reasons, but the mayhem caused by two rings is a big part, as is the slow rollout of teams and the variety of weapons that get used in the match. That is likely to continue in this year's version, and with more of the roster comfortable with the format now, this year's event could end up being even better.

One of the other questions surrounding the event is a certain Chicago favorite CM Punk. Punk and AEW ended their relationship after All In. There's been rumors that Punk is heading to WWE, and that he might debut at Survivor Series. Those rumors have been pushed back on in other reports, and when Punk was asked about them, he addressed them vaguely, saying, "They're asking if I'm going to be there? I think it's sold out. I think tickets are hard to get."

"I don't want to burst anybody's bubble. I'm kind of just sitting at home and enjoying this beautiful Chicago weather," Punk said. "I have an injury in the family. My dog [Larry] blew his dog ACL. I'm literally just spending my time with him. I know that sounds crazy, but he is my son, and I take care of him and treat him as such. Everything has kind of stopped. I'm fortunate to take time off from everything. I've canceled things I have coming up. Traveling is hard. It's tough to leave him here with my wife April [AJ Lee]. If there are two of us here taking care of him, it's easier."

WWE Crown Jewel Card and Results:

  • Undisputed WWE Universal Championship Match: Roman Reigns (C) vs LA Knight
  • Women's World Championship Match: Rhea Ripley (C) def. Nia Jax, Shayna Baszler, Raquel Rodriguez, and Zoey Stark
  • World Heavyweight Championship Match: Seth Rollins (C) def. Drew McIntyre
  • Women's Championship Match: IYO SKY (C) vs Bianca Belair

WWE Crown Jewel: Logan Paul is Now a WWE Champion https://comicbook.com/wwe/news/wwe-crown-jewel-logan-paul-rey-mysterio-us-championship/ Sat, 04 Nov 2023 19:21:00 +0000 Evan Valentine cd53f8a2-6476-4670-809c-7438a8f0a5f6

WWE Crown Jewel has had some big matches of the night, and the battle for the US Title was one of its flashiest. With Logan Paul entering the ring in an eye-popping automobile, Rey Mysterio entered the ring wearing the United States Title around his belt to defend the championship. Logan Paul certainly lived up to his status as a "heel" during this latest fight but was able to walk away with the belt and become the new champion via a victory against the elder Mysterio.

Receiving some out-of-the-ring assistance after a long and bitter brawl, Paul got his hands on a pair of brass knuckles that he was able to use to claim victory against Mysterio. Despite Rey delivering his finishing move on Logan Paul, the YouTube star was able to keep the brass knuckles out of the ref's eyesight, netting him a three count and the United States Championship as a result.

Logan Paul: United States Champion

On his podcast, Impaulsive, earlier this week, Logan Paul shared the following statement when it came to his match against Mysterio, "I'm going for you bro, you're looking at the future US Champ right here. Unfortunately, I have to take it from Rey Mysterio, the legend, I have to punch him in the face a few times," Paul said. "It sucks. I love Rey Mysterio as a wrestler, and this is what I've been saying, I respect Rey, how can you not? He is one of the greatest, surely the greatest luchador of all time, he just has something I need."

Paul also discussed his love of being a part of World Wrestling Entertainment, "I got the bug. I'm doing these things and this comes so much more natural to me than boxing. People tell me I belong here, I actually feel like I belong. I have the opportunity to go after these champions and win these belts, I don't know how many humans get this opportunity, I might have to take this. It's nice when you have something that people are kind of forced to respect you for."

What did you think of Paul and Mysterio's Crown Jewel brawl? How do you feel about Logan Paul as the United States Champion? Feel free to let us know in the comments or hit me up directly @EVComedy to talk all things comics, anime, and the world of professional wrestling.

WWE Crown Jewel: Did Solo Sikoa Just Retire John Cena? https://comicbook.com/wwe/news/wwe-crown-jewel-did-solo-sikoa-just-retire-john-cena/ Sat, 04 Nov 2023 18:54:00 +0000 Matthew Aguilar e47e7aa8-80e9-492f-82f9-536f4c7d77a0

John Cena had an unfortunate streak he wanted to end at WWE Crown Jewel, as Cena hasn't won a singles match on TV since 2018. He would have the chance to break that streak at Crown Jewel, but standing in his way was The Bloodline's enforcer Solo Sikoa, and Sikoa had orders from Roman Reigns to take Cena out. Sikoa was in control for a while, but Cena would have big runs of offense that put Sikoa's win in peril. Unfortunately, the tables turned after a Samoan Spike to Cena, as after that Sikoa would continue to hit Cena with several more Samoan Spikes, and at one point he delivered multiple Spikes in a row. While Cena was able to get to his feet for the first few, after the barrage he was done, and Sikoa got the win. There was an aura around the match ending that wasn't expected, and WWE stayed with Cena for a bit after the loss as he got up and was cheered on by the crowd. While Cena could return, there's a chance that we just saw Sikoa retire Cena, and I don't think anyone expected that before the event.

Early on it was apparent that Sikoa wasn't going to go for pitfalls, as he wanted to punish Cena and make a point for the Tribal Chief. Sikoa taunted the crowd as he dished out more damage, and when Cena would try and get some momentum, the Bloodline enforcer would cut off the comeback before it started.

Sikoa did eventually go for a pin, but Cena kicked out, so Sikoa dished out more damage in the corner. Cena finally got going though with a submission, and though Sikoa eventually broke free and hit a clothesline, the move worked in putting Sikoa on his heels for a bit. Sikoa dove and knocked Cena from the turnbuckle, and then hit a belly-to-belly before going for a pin, but Cena was able to kick out and keep the match going.

Sikoa went for the Samoan Spike but Cena avoided it and hit two shoulder tackles and a slam, setting him up for the Five Knuckle Shuffle. Cena hit it and then set up for an Attitude Adjustment, but Sikoa countered and hit Cena with a Samoan Drop. Cena was still in it though, kicking out of the pin. Cena would come back again though, hitting a cross body from the top rope and going for the cover, though Sikoa was able to kick out.

Cena would then hit a choke slam and go for the pin, but even that wasn't enough to keep Sikoa down. Both men were on their feet and slugging it out, and then Sikoa hit the spinning solo and went for the pin, but Cena kicked out once again. Cena was back on his feet and locked in the STF, and Sikoa dragged Cena to the bottom rope to break it. Sikoa came out of the hold with a Samoan Spike, and then when Cena got to his feet Sikoa hit another one. Sikoa then hit Cena with a third Spike, but he kept getting up.

Cena grabbed the bottom rope and got back to his feet, but Sikoa hit one more Samoan Spike, knocking him back to the mat. Sikoa then hit several Spikes in a row, and at that point he went for the pin and got the win. Did we just see Cena's last match? Only time will tell, but after that beatdown at the end, there's at least a chance.

After the match, the crowd celebrated Cena, and he took a minute to walk out of the ring to the back. You can check out the full card and updated results for Crown Jewel below.

Rhea Ripley Continues Reign as Women's World Championship After Crown Jewel Five-Way Match https://comicbook.com/wwe/news/rhea-ripley-crown-jewel-womens-world-championship/ Sat, 04 Nov 2023 18:01:00 +0000 Charlie Ridgely 73d4b8f5-751b-469c-bc32-dc2f200e17ba

Rhea Ripley has established herself as one of the top stars in all of WWE, and is enjoying quite a successful run as Women's World Champion. She's been effectively running the Judgement Day and eradicating any opponent that has gotten in her way. Perhaps her most difficult challenge came this weekend at Crown Jewel, however, as she had to defend her title against four other competitors. It was a Fatal Five-Way for the Women's World Championship, pitting Ripley against Raquel Rodriguez, Shayna Baszler, Nia Jax,and Zoey Stark. Fortunately for Ripley and the Judgement Day, she was up to the task.

The odds were against Ripley from the jump, as the match could end with any one of the five women being pinned or submitted. She could lose the Championship without ever being pinned, thanks to the rules of the match (which was chosen by Adam Pearce). The odds didn't matter to Ripley, though, who rushed back into the ring at multiple occasions to stop a pin from happening and keep her hopes of retaining alive.

Ripley ultimately won the match by pinning Baszler while the other women in the match were either out of the ring or seemingly down for the count.

Rhea Ripley Recruiting More Judgement Day Members?

While the Judgement Day hasn't added any new members in quite a while, Ripley has been using their resources in the WWE Locker Room and making some calls to get help when needed. She made a very public pact with the Paul Heyman and the Bloodline. Operating in the shadows, Mami may have also cut some kind of deal with the Scottish Warrior, Drew McIntyre.

During a recent episode of RAW, Seth Rollins and McIntyre exchanged words regarding their Crown Jewel title bout. A couple of shady statements from Rollins about McIntyre's intentions caused the Scottish Warrior to ask more direct questions of his opponent. Rollins called for the video team to roll footage of a conversation between Adam Pearce and Richochet backstage.

On the surface, the footage seemed like nothing but a simple conversation. However, zooming in on the footage caused everyone in the crowd to see McIntyre and Ripley speaking out of earshot of anyone else on the roster.

Bryan Danielson Challenges Kazuchika Okada For First NJPW Match Since 2004 https://comicbook.com/wwe/news/bryan-danielson-kazuchika-okada-njpw-wrestle-kingdom-18/ Sat, 04 Nov 2023 17:46:00 +0000 Liam Crowley 1220838a-2e2e-4777-a91c-a120f3895d51

Bryan Danielson's rivalry with Kazuchika Okada continues. The American Dragon first met The Rainmaker inside the squared circle this past June at AEW x NJPW Forbidden Door. Despite suffering a legitimate broken arm around 20 minutes into the contest, Danielson was able to secure a rare submission victory over Okada. Speaking at the post-show press conference, Danielson hinted at wanting a rematch, specifically citing a desire to return the broken arm favor. Danielson and Okada would meet in the ring once more earlier this fall on AEW Dynamite in a tag match that ended with Danielson suffering another legitimate injury, this time a broken orbital bone.

Bryan Danielson wants in on the Far East's biggest show.

As revealed on social media, Danielson has challenged Kazuchika Okada for a singles rematch this January at NJPW Wrestle Kingdom 18. Danielson called out Okada in a pre-taped video, wanting revenge on The Rainmaker for the injuries he has caused him.

"I'm challenging you right now for January 4th, Wrestle Kingdom at Tokyo Dome," Danielson said. "You and me, one on one, and I'm going to get my revenge. I'm going to break your right arm, and you'll never be able to do the Rainmaker ever again."

You can watch Danielson's challenge video below...

This would be Danielson's first match inside a New Japan ring since 2004. He previously competed for NJPW from 2002 until 2004, wrestling a total of 112 bouts under the ring name "American Dragon." Danielson has also been exclusive to All Elite Wrestling since he signed with Tony Khan's promotion in Summer 2021, wrestling all of his post-WWE matches at AEW events. He has faced a couple of opponents from outside of AEW, like Timothy Thatcher and Zack Sabre Jr., but has yet to actually lock up with someone in another promotion.

Part of the reason Danielson signed with AEW was because he wanted the freedom to compete in other companies, specifically New Japan. It was reported leading up to his 2021 free agency that WWE was willing to let Danielson wrestle for NJPW while under WWE contract, but Danielson ultimately opted to sign with AEW.

NJPW Wrestle Kingdom 18 goes down on Thursday, January 4th, 2024. The only other match currently announced is IWGP World Heavyweight Champion Sanada defending against Tetsuya Naito.

WWE Crown Jewel: Seth Rollins Retains World Heavyweight Championship, Money in the Bank Cash-in Thwarted https://comicbook.com/wwe/news/seth-rollins-drew-mcintyre-world-heavyweight-championship-crown-jewel-wwe/ Sat, 04 Nov 2023 17:37:00 +0000 Charlie Ridgely 815df50c-614d-4adb-b1ae-5644e4afd3fd

Seth "Freakin" Rollins has been on an incredible title run since winning the WWE World Heavyweight Championship. Saturday's Crown Jewel event provided him with one of his toughest opponents, however, in the Scottish Warrior Drew McIntyre. Rollins won the title in Saudi Arabia, and now he has returned to defend it. Weeks of back and forth between the two, including a potential partnership between McIntyre and the Judgement Day, culminated in the opening match of Crown Jewel 2023. As many suspected, Rollins walked out of the match with his Championship still in-hand.

McIntyre pulled out all the stops, though the Claymore that likely would've taken Rollins out was thwarted. Rollins almost had to defend his title a second time on Saturday, as the Judgement Day's Damian Priest rushed to the ring to cash in his Money in the Bank briefcase. The attempt failed, however, thanks to Sami Zayn, who attacked Priest and made off with the case.

Seth Rollins will return to Monday Night RAW as the World Heavyweight Champion, but it seems like his business with the Judgement Day is far from over.

Seth Rollins Injury Won't Affect Current Run

Earlier this year, Rollins revealed that he's been dealing with a back injury for a few years now, one that will eventually require surgery. However, Rollins hasn't been worried about that injury changing anything for his current run in WWE. It's been a big part of the story as of late, but he is still promising to be a fighting champion.

"It is what it is. All of us have something," Rollins said on The Bump. "We've all got some sort of nagging injury, we've all got something that's pulling at us, telling us we need to slow down. That's just part of the game. I know that. Everybody knows that. Now, my injury might be a little more serious than some people. But I know how to manage it. I told Shinsuke, I told the world. I won the World Heavyweight Championship with a broken back. I've been defending the World Heavyweight Championship with a broken back.

"So even though Shinsuke's the first guy to really target that injury, I feel like I know what it takes to manage it. I'll be just fine, I promise you. I promise everybody out there who's concerned. I'm gonna be fine. I promise you guys, I will be fine. The championship is in good hands," he continued.

WWE's John Cena Calls Solo Sikoa 'Bargain Basement Taz' in Brutal SmackDown Promo https://comicbook.com/wwe/news/wwes-john-cena-calls-solo-sikoa-bargain-basement-taz-in-brutal-smackdown-promo/ Sat, 04 Nov 2023 01:53:00 +0000 Matthew Aguilar 9f8e774f-c438-498a-8222-37bc8f55d31a

John Cena will face The Bloodline's Solo Sikoa at WWE Crown Jewel, but before they match they hit the ring to have one last face-to-face. It was an eventful one too, and Sikoa doubled down on Paul Heyman's warning to Cena on last week's SmackDown. Heyman warned Cena he may not be able to use his greatest gift after fighting Sikoa, which would be his voice. Cena wasn't phased by Sikoa's words tonight though, and Cena used his greatest weapon to cook Sikoa in around 90 seconds, saying he only got a job because of his cousin and calling Sikoa a bargain basement Taz among other shots. You can watch Cena's promo below.

Sikoa headed to the ring with Heyman and once there revealed his orders from Roman Reigns. Sikoa said, "John Cena. I'm pissed off I've got to wait till tomorrow to fight you, but I've got orders from the Tribal Chief. And those orders were to give you this microphone so you can say goodbye to them while you still can. Because come tomorrow, you won't be able to."

Cena then hit Sikoa with a scathing promo, and while his voice was clearly hoarse, it didn't rob the promo of any impact. Cena said, I can do this with half a voice and it's only going to take 90 seconds to cook you. I'm going to say goodbye, but I'm not going to say goodbye to them. I'm going to say goodbye for them. We all know the only reason you got a job here was because of your cousin. And we all see you homie, walking around thinking you're some big badass enforcer when you're nothing but a bargain basement Taz ripoff."

Sikoa and Heyman were both stunned, and Sikoa was seething. Cena capped the promo off by saying "So do me a solid Solo. Tape your thumb up extra tight, because the only place it's getting stuck up tomorrow is straight up your ass. Yeah, that was about 90 seconds."

Cena then walked off and left Sikoa and Heyman stunned in the ring. It's clear that Cena wants to get a win at Crown Jewel and do some damage to the Bloodline while he's at it. Whether that happens remains to be seen, but at this point, it certainly seems like it could go his way. If Sikoa can't defeat Cena, Reigns is not going to be happy, but then he's got his own problems to deal with at the moment.

Reigns will face LA Knight at Crown Jewel for the Undisputed WWE Universal Championship, and the two have sparred a bit over the past few weeks. Knight has gotten the better of Reigns in many of those altercations though, and he was recently able to deal with Jimmy Uso and evade Reigns. Knight also got under Reigns' skin during their contract signing, which got Reigns so angry that he knocked the table over and threw it onto Knight.

Despite that Knight still got the best of that scenario, and during that episode, Knight did everything he could to bother Reigns. Knight walked out during Reigns' entrance, and then he sat at the head of the table in the ring. He then called himself the head of the table and told Reigns to acknowledge him, and that was the final straw for Reigns. You can find the full card for Crown Jewel below.

WWE Crown Jewel Card:

  • Undisputed WWE Universal Championship Match: Roman Reigns (C) vs LA Knight
  • Women's World Championship Match: Rhea Ripley (C) vs Nia Jax vs Shayna Baszler vs Raquel Rodriguez vs Zoey Stark

  • Women's Championship Match: IYO SKY (C) vs Bianca Belair

WWE Teases Surprising New Addition to Bobby Lashley and Street Profits' SmackDown Faction https://comicbook.com/wwe/news/wwe-teases-surprising-new-addition-to-bobby-lashley-and-street-profits-smackdown-faction/ Sat, 04 Nov 2023 01:16:00 +0000 Matthew Aguilar f5484cf6-a277-4dd3-a095-f9ead2db05fb

There are several powerful factions on WWE SmackDown at the moment, and one of the newest additions to that list seems to be adding a new member to the group. Over the past month or two, Bobby Lashley has been making waves with The Street Profits as they look to carve out their own part of SmackDown. Tonight they had a positive run-in with Logan Paul, but then they were greeted by Hit Row's B-Fab, who asked Lashley if he had time to go talk for a minute. Angelo and Montez were intrigued, as was Lashley, who said yes and walked away with B-Fab off-screen. There are a number of ways this could go, but one major possibility is that B-Fab could be joining the group.

There are a number of reasons that would be a logical step, but one of the biggest is that the faction, which still doesn't have an official name, could use a woman in the lineup to take on some of the other factions on SmackDown. The LWO has Zelina Vega, while Judgement Day (who makes frequent trips to SmackDown) has Rhea Ripley, and she causes all sorts of chaos to help her teammates.

Then there's The OC, who is out of action at the moment due to the injuries, but when they are healthy again Mia Yim will once again be in the mix. So if you're going to lock up with those other groups, you are definitely going to want to match up the best you can, and having B-Fab would be a perfect way to achieve that goal.

The other reason is the status of Hit Row. With Top Dolla's release, Ashante Thee Adonis and B-Fab haven't been able to mix it up on TV. You could bring in both to be part of this faction, which would give the group a numbers advantage on everyone but the LWO, but this could also just be a way to move forward with B-Fab if they have something else planned for Ashante.

We'll have to wait and see what happens, but it does seem that WWE has big plans for this group, and they've already inserted themselves into the LWO's business. The group hasn't run into The Bloodline as of yet, but with Reigns back in the picture on SmackDown, perhaps we'll see a meeting of the two groups like we did for Judgment Day a few weeks ago.

That meeting was memorable for a number of reasons, but one of the biggest was that Ripley took the lead in the negotiations with Paul Heyman, saying that Heyman didn't even need to request approval from Reigns because she gave it already. The two groups would join forces against John Cena and LA Knight, but they would get some help from Cody Rhodes and Jey Uso. Heyman would secretly pull Sikoa from the group and let everyone else brawl, and despite the numbers advance, Judgment Day and The Bloodline would be cleared out of the ring.

Are you excited for the possible expansion of the group? Let us know in the comments and as always you can talk all things wrestling with me on Threads @mattaguilarcb!

Roman Reigns Calls LA Knight Redneck Version of The Rock on WWE SmackDown https://comicbook.com/wwe/news/roman-reigns-calls-la-knight-redneck-version-of-the-rock-on-wwe-smackdown/ Sat, 04 Nov 2023 00:33:00 +0000 Matthew Aguilar d77cf99a-6d19-4ed1-9f4f-26b0f0e56b36

LA Knight got things started on the last SmackDown before Crown Jewel, and he had some words for Roman Reigns. Knight told The Bloodline leader that he was set to take over the Roman Empire, and that's when Reigns came out to interrupt his challenger. Reigns got right to the point, giving Knight credit for what he did while Reigns was away but also telling Knight to enjoy this night because at Crown Jewel his dream run was ending. Reigns also took a shot at Knight, saying that he is cosplaying "a redneck version of my cousin". Knight fired back with shots of his own, and the two are now set to deliver a thriller at Crown Jewel on Saturday.

When Reigns got to the ring he said, "Typically I'd tell this irrelevant town to acknowledge me, but they know exactly who I am. But I can't say the same for you. I thought after all this time it was clear who the Tribal Chief is, but you don't seem to understand. I'm going to reintroduce myself for one time only. I'm Roman Reigns. The Tribal Chief. The head of the table, and the face of the WWE."

"A lot's changed around here. I take my time to leave and I expect people to step up, but I didn't think it was ever going to be you," Reigns said. "But you did something to catch the attention of these people. You managed your time wisely and got all these people on your side. I give you credit for that. It's not easy in this day and age...go ahead and chant his name."

After some LA Knight chants broke out, Reigns said, "Because this is the last night that's gonna happen. Like I said, I've advanced this business, you seem like you're going to set us back. What do the kids call this...They call this cinema. You damn right I'm the star. The megastar. I turned this business into a billion-dollar industry. A multi-billion dollar industry. I've done everything you can do. What did you do? The only thing you've done is get them to chant your name and what, play a redneck version of my cousin?"

"This is my island of relevancy, so take this night and enjoy it, because tomorrow I'm going to end you," Reigns said. "When I'm done, we're going to leave you in the desert, but don't worry, you won't be the least one."

Knight said, "You know what, you uh, you gotta be feeling pretty unbeatable right now, don't you? Let's face it, you've beaten everybody haven't you? But you don't understand. I'm not coming at ya from the same angle that everyone else did. You don't understand. I'm not here to finish something. I'm here to start something, yeah!" I'm here to start the LA Knight era, so you want to talk about cosplaying? I'm going to cosplay the person that's going to kick your ass at Crown Jewel. You want to mock that, you've done an amazing job. You've made yourself damn near a megastar because of that Title. I live it every damn day."

Knight concluded his promo by saying, "I don't do warning shots, so make sure you leave me. Make sure I'm good and done, because if you don't, I'll come back and find you. Because the only bloodline you'll see will be running right between your eyes, and the only thing you'll hear is them saying 'And new Undisputed WWE Universal Champion LA Knight, yeah!"

Dana White Reveals WWE's Vince McMahon Shut Down a Previous UFC TV Deal with NBC https://comicbook.com/wwe/news/dana-white-reveals-wwes-vince-mcmahon-shut-down-a-previous-ufc-tv-deal-with-nbc/ Fri, 03 Nov 2023 21:23:00 +0000 Matthew Aguilar 3f8a93bf-7278-4244-812e-f5f36d9e59de

WWE and UFC are now part of the TKO family after Endeavor acquired WWE earlier this year, bringing UFC's Dana White and WWE's Vince McMahon under the same larger umbrella. White and McMahon have a long history, and while things are amicable now, it wasn't always that way. In a new interview with Triggered, White revealed that his relationship with McMahon has been an interesting one, and then went on to discuss a particular scenario in the past where McMahon shut down a proposed TV deal between NBC and the UFC. White then said that the scenario is one of ten where Vince stuck it to him just to do it (via Fightful).

"It's been an interesting relationship with Vince McMahon. I never saw Vince as competition, but I'm thinking Vince, in his heyday, he saw everyone as competition. He was one of those guys that would fucking stick it to me, just to do it," White said. "We were about to do a deal with NBC, and it ends up, we get to the one yard line, and Vince has the final say of who can go on USA Network and who can't if you're a combat sport."

"Lorenzo [Lorenzo Fertitta] and I flew out to Connecticut, sat down with him, we do all the small talk, 'We're doing a deal with NBC.' Vince sits back like Vince sits. 'We're about to do this deal, we're about to have fights on NBC and everything else, but you need to sign off on it.' Vince says, 'Yeah, I'm not going to do that.' We're like, 'Why?' 'Eh, I'm just not interested in it. I don't like the idea of you guys being on USA Network.' The whole deal blows up," White said.

While White adds that everything worked out just fine, it was one of several moments in time where McMahon stuck it to him in some way or another. "At the end of the day, it all worked out better, we ended up on FOX. That's just one of ten times where Vince did it," White said.

Things have obviously changed quite a bit since then, and White was nothing but complimentary of working with him now. "Now, Vince and I are in business together, and Vince couldn't be a better partner now. Now, Vince has been an incredible partner. Literally keeps me in the loop with everything going on, making sure I'm cool with decisions that could affect the UFC," White said.

That doesn't mean there will be a ton of crossover between the two companies though, as when White was asked about it by AP News he said, "There won't really be any type of crossover."

"If you look at the WWE, they have an entertainment value and they have these guys that are incredible athletes that go in there and do their thing. It's well known that it's scripted," White said. "When you look at the UFC, this is as real as it gets. That's our tagline. You have these guys that are incredible athletes that have to be well-rounded and well-versed in all these different aspects of martial arts. Then you have the entertainment side of it too, but it's real fighting, it's real. There are no predetermined outcomes in the UFC."

"You have the power of the fanbase of WWE. You have the power of the fanbase of UFC. You have the power of the viral," White added. "We can reach all these people in so many different ways. There is a lot more resources now. WWE has a lot more resources. It's a phone call away now. All they have to do is pick up the phone now and say, 'Hey, how did this happen? I need this. I need this contact. How did you do this?' You all work together to make sure that everybody wins. We've been together on the same weekend many times. Come out of a UFC event, you have Monday Night Raw. Who knows. These are all things that can be figured out on the business side," White said.

Watch: WWE NXT Star Uses Journey's "Separate Ways" as Entrance Music During Dark Match https://comicbook.com/wwe/news/watch-wwe-nxt-star-journey-separate-ways-entrance-music-dark-match/ Fri, 03 Nov 2023 20:54:00 +0000 Liam Crowley 20b34996-895b-48e2-8c33-e67214d30106

Licensed music and professional wrestling have had their relationship status on "complicated" for decades. Top stars on the independent circuit tend to use notable tracks for their non-televised events, as evident by MJF walking out to "Trophies" by Drake during his rookie years, but those tunes rarely follow them to the national stage. Companies like WWE and All Elite Wrestling with a televised platform have to pay licensing fees to use familiar music, which can range from a one-time cost to a big figure for each time it is used. That's why most professional wrestling companies make their own music for their talent, or vice versa, talent commissions their own themes to bring with them.

While licensed music is a no-go on WWE TV, that doesn't mean the company can't experiment with it when the cameras are not rolling.

WWE NXT's Brooks Jensen Uses Journey's "Separate Ways"

Some day, love will find you.

As shared on social media, Brooks Jensen wrestled a dark match earlier this week and entered to "Separate Ways" by Journey. Because this match did not make its way to either WWE NXT or NXT Level Up, WWE will not pay a licensing fee for it.

You can watch Jensen's entrance below...

This marks an extremely rare circumstance for WWE, as the company rarely even experiments with licensed music in areas where they can get away with it. When WWE does outright use licensed music, it is typically saved for those at the very top of the card like Ronda Rousey ("Bad Reputation" by Joan Jett & The Blackhearts) or CM Punk ("Cult of Personality" by Living Colour). Jensen is a former titleholder in his own right but is a ways away from the main roster's world title picture.

Licensed music is most commonly used in AEW. Multiple stars across Tony Khan's roster use familiar tracks for their themes, like Orange Cassidy ("Jane" by Jefferson Starship), Ruby Soho ("Ruby Soho" by Rancid), Hook ("The Chairman's Intent" by Action Bronson), and Saraya ("Zombified" by Falling In Reverse). AEW has also had a couple of one-off usages of pricey songs for Bryan Danielson ("The Final Countdown" by Europe) and The Gunns ("Many Men" by 50 Cent).

Stay tuned to ComicBook.com for updates on Brooks Jensen using "Separate Ways" going forward.

WWE NXT returns on Tuesday, November 7th.

WWE Crown Jewel 2023: Start Time, How to Watch, Full Card, Betting Odds https://comicbook.com/wwe/news/wwe-crown-jewel-2023-start-time-how-to-watch-full-card-betting-odds/ Fri, 03 Nov 2023 20:26:00 +0000 Liam Crowley ab9b31f7-e05d-47ea-9b4d-870d9547ca1e

WWE is bringing what some are calling a WrestleMania-caliber card to Saudi Arabia this weekend. WWE Crown Jewel returns for its fifth iteration, once again headlined by a Roman Reigns title defense. This year, Reigns defends the Undisputed WWE Universal Championship against the white-hot LA Knight. WWE Crown Jewel might be the site of Reigns's last title defense of the year, as recent rumblings have indicated that he will be off WWE TV until the build to WWE Royal Rumble starts in January. With rumors that WWE Survivor Series later this month will be primarily built around multi-man matches and faction warfare, there is a strong chance that WWE Crown Jewel is WWE's last complete card of 2023.

WWE Crown Jewel kicks off at 1 PM ET on Saturday, November 4th, streaming on Peacock. There will be a one-hour pre-show that starts at 12 PM ET which will be available to stream on Peacock as well as WWE's other social channels (YouTube, TikTok, etc).

WWE Crown Jewel 2023 Full Card

  • Undisputed WWE Universal Championship: Roman Reigns (c) vs. LA Knight
  • WWE World Heavyweight Championship: Seth Rollins (c) vs. Drew McIntyre
  • WWE United States Championship: Rey Mysterio (c) vs. Logan Paul
  • WWE Women's Championship: Iyo Sky (c) vs. Bianca Belair
  • WWE Women's World Championship: Rhea Ripley (c) vs. Nia Jax vs. Shayna Baszler vs. Zoey Stark vs. Raquel Rodriguez
  • John Cena vs. Solo Sikoa
  • Cody Rhodes vs. Damian Priest
  • WWE Crown Jewel Kickoff: Sami Zayn vs. JD McDonagh

WWE Crown Jewel 2023 Betting Odds

WWE Crown Jewel could see a couple of major upsets if betting odds are to be believed.

Logan Paul is favored to walk out of Saudi Arabia with the WWE United States Championship, sitting at a -175 favorite over Rey Mysterio's +120. Damian Priest is a sneaky underdog to leave as WWE World Heavyweight Championship, as he has +700 odds to cash in his Money in the Bank briefcase during the Seth Rollins (-275) vs. Drew McIntyre (+165) title match.

While few would bet against John Cena, recent weeks have painted him as fighting an uphill battle against young star Solo Sikoa. Regardless, Cena (-275) enters that match as a favorite compared to Sikoa (+140).

The two biggest favorites going into WWE Crown Jewel are two of WWE's top champions. Undisputed WWE Universal Champion Roman Reigns (-1667) stands as a monster favorite against LA Knight (+450) while WWE Women's World Champion Rhea Ripley (-1000) has strong odds against her field of challengers.

WWE Crown Jewel goes down this Saturday, November 4th at 1 PM ET.

Concern Surrounding Returning AEW Star's Health https://comicbook.com/wwe/news/concern-aew-health-paul-wight-dynamite/ Fri, 03 Nov 2023 17:51:00 +0000 Liam Crowley 18c62226-bd37-4dc0-8cca-1a8fcf687780

All Elite Wrestling boasts one of the deepest rosters in professional wrestling history, and that extends to its backstage personnel. AEW's coaching staff includes the likes of Jimmy Jacobs, Dean Malenko, and Chris Hero. While those three names are exclusive to their behind-the-scenes positions, a couple of coaches and producers pull double duty as on-screen talent. Billy Gunn wrestles alongside The Acclaimed. Jeff Jarrett leads a stable. Jerry Lynn holds an on-screen management role for Ring of Honor. That double duty extends to AEW's broadcast team as well, particularly with former AEW Dark: Elevation commentator Paul Wight.

Wight shocked the wrestling world when he signed with AEW in early 2021, as many assumed he would be a WWE lifer. The wrestler formerly known as Big Show primarily worked as a commentator on the now-cancelled AEW Dark: Elevation but also got in the ring on a couple of occasions. He made his AEW in-ring debut at AEW All Out 2021, defeating QT Marshall in quick fashion.

Since then, Wight has competed in three more AEW matches, with his latest coming back in March 2022.

Concern Surrounding Paul Wight's Health

aew-paul-wight-wwe-big-show-aew-signing-1259191.jpg

Paul Wight is making his in-ring return, but he will be limited in what he can do.

As seen this past Wednesday on AEW Dynamite, Wight was introduced as Chris Jericho's mystery partner for he and Kenny Omega's upcoming eight-man street fight against The Don Callis Family. Omega selected longtime tag partner Kota Ibushi as well.

Wight hit the stage, standing at the entrance ramp and delivered a knockout punch to Kyle Fletcher. Wight did not move from beyond the stage.

According to the Wrestling Observer, Wight's "movement [is] not good." This is due to years of knee problems and other issues in his legs.

Considering that this is a multi-man street fight, Wight will likely be used in a limited capacity. Weapons-based matches tend to actually be safer than traditional wrestling bouts, as the smoke and mirrors of it all allow wrestlers to dish what looks like extra damage to each other when in reality, those shots have less injury risk than standard strikes.

Wight is set to team with Chris Jericho, Kenny Omega and Kota Ibushi to take on Kyle Fletcher, Powerhouse Hobbs, Konosuke Takeshita and a fourth member of The Don Callis Family on the November 15th edition of AEW Dynamite.

Netflix Seeks Live Sports, Wants Jake Paul Boxing Match https://comicbook.com/wwe/news/netflix-livestream-boxing-match-jake-paul/ Fri, 03 Nov 2023 15:35:00 +0000 Liam Crowley 29c72e56-f063-4546-9311-f8e8439aaaa8

The latest evolution of the streaming service era is live events. Hulu set itself apart from the rest of the competing streamers by bringing live sports to the table, and it did not take long for others to follow. Today, streaming giants like Paramount+, Max, ESPN+ and Peacock all host live sports within their service, allowing subscribers to watch games without having a cable subscription. Other subscription services like Sling and YouTube TV mimic the cable set-up, hosting hundreds of traditional network channels, including many which host live sports. The more that streamed live events become popularized, the more it becomes clear that the streamers that aren't already carrying the option are falling behind.

Netflix Seeks Live Sports, Specifically a Jake Paul Boxing Match

Netflix wants in on the fight game.

According to a report from the Wall Street Journal, the red and black streamer has had talks regarding streaming a boxing match, specifically one featuring Jake Paul. Netflix is also toying with the idea of hosting a boxing match between boxers from Premier Boxing Champions, which is a show currently on Paramount's Showtime. These discussions are "still in a very early stage" and "might not come to fruition."

"We've not seen a profit path to renting big sports," Netflix co-CEO Ted Sarandos said in December 2022. "We're not anti-sports, we're just pro-profit."

Netflix has flirted with the idea of live sports for years but has always been hesitant to pull the trigger. That will change in two weeks when it streams The Netflix Cup, a live golf tournament on November 14th.

As for Paul, the YouTuber turned boxer is an undeniable draw between the ropes. His latest boxing match, a bout between himself and UFC star Nate Diaz this past August, pulled in over 450,000 pay-per-view buys for a haul of "nearly $27 million." His fight against Tommy Fury earlier this year was said to have done around 500,000 pay-per-view buys.

Paul's next fight is currently scheduled for December. While an opponent has yet to be announced, speculation has run that it could either be a rematch against Tommy Fury, a grudge match against fellow YouTuber KSI, or an octagon battle with Diaz. Most Valuable Promotions recently shared on social media that Paul's next opponent will be "a boxer with a winning record."

John Cena Teases WWE Retirement Plans https://comicbook.com/wwe/news/john-cena-teases-wwe-retirement-plans/ Fri, 03 Nov 2023 14:11:00 +0000 Liam Crowley e500a3d8-5291-4cd9-b248-022d2d080c50

John Cena's WWE days are numbered. The 16-time world champion returned to the company earlier this fall in what was originally scheduled to be a one-off appearance on WWE SmackDown and a non-televised match at India's WWE Superstar Spectacle. When it became clear that the actors' strike would stretch deep into the end of 2023 and Cena's productions and promotional tours would be on pause, Cena extended his WWE stay indefinitely. That said, Cena has made it clear that once the strike comes to an end, which could be any day now, he will return to Hollywood.

While this particular run won't end with Cena retiring altogether, Big Match John is well aware that that final match is coming sooner than later.

John Cena Teases Retirement Plans

The You Can't See Me Man is leaving his final chapter in WWE's hands.

Speaking on WWE After The Bell, John Cena admitted that he doesn't have a storybook ending for his wrestling career written in his head.

"There are a lot of different perspectives. Anyone else sitting here would probably craft a scenario where, 'Oh, in my mind, the perfect thing is to do this, at this event, with this individual,'" Cena said. "I just want to do what's best for WWE. That has been my order of operations since I walked in this building. It hasn't changed. It's my way of thinking, but it's done me pretty well."

Cena operating on a "best for business" mindset means that last match, whatever it may be, is something he wants the WWE machine to come up with.

"When I'm courageous enough to express to those making choices, 'Hey, this is it,' I do what they tell me to do because I believe full faith that they're doing what is best for business," Cena continued. "Whenever it comes to an end, and it will, whatever is deemed the best thing for WWE is exactly what will be the perfect moment."

Cena is currently in a feud with The Bloodline, and his attention has turned specifically to Solo Sikoa. Cena and Sikoa will go one-on-one at WWE Crown Jewel this Saturday, a match that has fans reminiscing about Cena's WWE Championship feud with Umaga back in the mid-2000s. Following WWE Crown Jewel, there is no word regarding whether Cena will wrestle again this year.

Former WWE Champion Reportedly Returns to Company https://comicbook.com/wwe/news/former-wwe-champion-reportedly-returns-to-company/ Fri, 03 Nov 2023 03:59:00 +0000 Matthew Aguilar 244e12ca-29b2-4bdb-8991-fb67fd9c73a7

There have been a number of returns to WWE after Triple H took over creative, and there have been several rumored returns that have yet to happen officially. One of those returns might be right around the corner though, as WrestleVotes is reporting that former NXT Women's Champion and WWE Women's Tag Team Champion Kairi Sane has reappeared on WWE's internal talent roster. The report states that her return is imminent, though it isn't known if Sane will be part of Monday Night Raw or SmackDown. Kairi's return has been rumored for a while, but it seems that her WWE return is happening sooner rather than later.

On Twitter, WrestleVotes wrote, "After what feels like months of speculation, I'm told Kairi Sane has reappeared on the internal talent roster. Her return to the company is imminent." You can find the full post below.

In a later tweet, WrestleVotes revealed that Sane is listed in the misc section of the Internal Roster as of this morning. In the tweet, they wrote, "As of this morning Kairi Sane is listed under the MISC section of the internal company roster. For complete transparency, the MISC section currently reads as Stephanie McMahon, HHH, Undertaker, Austin, Tyler Breeze & Titus O'Neil. There are 18 names total across 3 columns. The 18th name is Kairi Sane."

Sane would move up the ranks in WWE NXT and eventually dethrone Shayna Baszler as NXT Women's Champion at NXT TakeOver: Brooklyn. Sane would reign as Champion for 71 days until losing the Title to Baszler at Evolution in 2018.

Sane would become a regular part of the main roster and would join up with Asuka to form the Kabuki Warriors, and they would quickly become a force to be reckoned with. They would take down Alexa Bliss and Nikki Cross at Hell in a Cell to become the new WWE Women's Tag Team Champions and would go on to defend it 4 times over the course of 181 days. They would eventually lose to Bliss and Cross later on at WrestleMania 36.

The Kabuki Warriors would wrestle their final match together in July of 2020 on Raw, falling to Sasha Banks and Bayley for the Women's Tag Team Championships. Sane would wrestle her last match in WWE the following week, and that's when she became an ambassador of WWE and moved back to Japan.

Sane would leave that role in late 2020, and she would go on to return to Stardom (now going by just Kairi) in 2022. An injury sidelined her for a bit but she would return to action later that year and continue with Stardom through 2022. In November she would defeat Mayu Iwatani to become the first-ever IWGP Women's Champion, and would defend her Title against Tam Nagano at Wrestle Kingdom 17.

In a full circle moment, Kairi was then confronted by a debuting Mercedes Mone (Sasha Banks), who had signed with New Japan Pro-Wrestling after her time in WWE ended. Kairi and Mone would face each other at Battle in the Valley, and Mone would defeat Kairi and become the new IWGP Women's Champion. Kairi's reign would clock in at 90 days.

Hulu Reveals Premiere Date for Bianca Belair and Montez Ford's Love & WWE Reality Show https://comicbook.com/wwe/news/hulu-reveals-premiere-date-for-bianca-belair-and-montez-fords-love-wwe-reality-show/ Fri, 03 Nov 2023 03:00:00 +0000 Matthew Aguilar 330043dc-ae82-460f-b611-5e34004a9b3c

Two fan-favorite WWE Superstars are jumping into the world of reality television, and now fans can mark their calendars for the big premiere. Today Hulu revealed the premiere date for Bianca Belair and Montez Ford's new reality show Love & WWE: Bianca & Montez, and the new series will premiere on the streaming service on February 2nd, 2024. Hulu revealed the date alongside a photo of Belair and Ford, adding the caption, "Get ready for a ringside seat into the world of WWE Superstars Bianca Belair & Montez Ford. Love & WWE: Bianca & Montez premieres February 2." You can check out the full post below.

In September WWE fans were a little worried that the deal between WWE and Hulu could end up not being renewed, as all of the WWE programs on the service carried an expiration tag, and that date was coming up soon. Hulu then confirmed that the streaming deal with WWE was set to expire and had not been renewed as of yet, but then in October, those expiration dates were all removed. While Hulu nor WWE have publically commented on a renewal, it would seem they did agree on some type of formal extension.

WWE has had success in the reality world with shows Total Divas, Total Bellas, and Miz & Mrs. Now Belair and Ford will allow people to see what their lives look like outside of the WWE ring, and that's no small thing. During a previous interview with ComicBook, Belair revealed she was excited for the show to start filming but was also a little nervous about sharing this other side of their lives with everyone.

"I will say that I used to have a little bit of downtime at home, but now I guess I won't have any now. But the icing on the cake is that I get to do it with my husband. It's exciting. I am nervous," Belair said. "Never thought that I would be doing a reality type show, but my husband is full of life, and when I tell people that the person that y'all see in the ring is the person that I get at home. So now, I get to share that with the world."

"I'm excited, but I'm also nervous. We're exposing ourselves and our family and pulling the curtain back a little bit, showing a balance between who we are in the ring but also outside the ring," Belair said. "It's exciting times, and we'll see what happens. I see comments of people saying like, 'Oh we ready. We going to watch.' Y'all better watch!"

Up next for Belair is Crown Jewel, where she will finally get her rematch for the WWE Women's Championship against IYO SKY. You can find the full card for Crown Jewel below.

WWE Crown Jewel Card:

  • Undisputed WWE Universal Championship Match: Roman Reigns (C) vs LA Knight
  • Women's World Championship Match: Rhea Ripley (C) vs Nia Jax vs Shayna Baszler vs Raquel Rodriguez vs Zoey Stark
  • World Heavyweight Championship Match: Seth Rollins (C) vs Drew McIntyre
  • Women's Championship Match: IYO SKY (C) vs Bianca Belair
  • United States Championship Match: Rey Mysterio (C) vs Logan Paul

FOX CEO Reveals Reason Network Didn't Renew Rights for WWE SmackDown https://comicbook.com/wwe/news/fox-ceo-reveals-reason-network-didnt-renew-rights-for-wwe-smackdown/ Fri, 03 Nov 2023 00:51:00 +0000 Matthew Aguilar 4f9e39b4-7381-4854-842f-e66c1ba38b86

WWE recently revealed that SmackDown would be moving to USA Network in 2024 after its deal with FOX expires in the fall, but it wasn't known exactly why the two sides didn't continue their partnership. Granted, WWE has had a long relationship with NBCUniversal, but the change-up was still slightly surprising. FOX CEO Lachlan Murdoch has now addressed why the partnership didn't continue (via Brandon Thurston), and the reasoning comes down to advertising revenue. During FOX's earnings call this morning, Murdoch said the network didn't drive enough advertising revenue "due to the audience of the WWE".

FOX also wasn't able to generate enough retransmission revenue linked to SmackDown, which means that they weren't able to charge cable and satellite carriers much more to carry FOX networks because they had SmackDown. Thurston isn't sure if this had to do with audience income or something else, but it is interesting to take note of.

When the FOX deal is up, SmackDown will move over to USA Network, though Monday Night Raw and NXT won't be sticking around on USA, as they are also looking for new homes. In the press release that accompanied the SmackDown move announcement, WWE and NBCU couldn't be happier about bringing SmackDown under the USA umbrella.

"NBCUniversal has been a tremendous partner of WWE for decades," WWE President Nick Khan said. "We are excited to extend this longstanding relationship by bringing SmackDown to USA Network on Friday nights and look forward to debuting multiple WWE special events annually on NBC."

"It's a privilege and thrill to continue NBCU's decades-long partnership with WWE which has helped cement USA Network's consistent position as the top-rated cable entertainment network in live viewership" said Frances Berwick, Chairman, NBCUniversal Entertainment. "With Friday nights on USA, primetime specials on NBC, and the WWE hub on Peacock, we'll continue to use the power of our portfolio to super-serve this passionate fanbase."

We'll have to wait and see where Raw and NXT land, though regardless of where those go, Premium Live Events will continue to stream on Peacock.

Ric Flair Wants to Work With Andrade El Idolo, MJF, Jay Lethal in AEW (Exclusive) https://comicbook.com/wwe/news/ric-flair-andrade-el-idolo-mjf-jay-lethal-aew-exclusive/ Thu, 02 Nov 2023 19:38:00 +0000 Liam Crowley 39a77933-b025-488f-9621-a8bdc678bffc

The Nature Boy is All Elite. Ric Flair has signed a multi-year contract with AEW that will see him appear on television and will also make his Wooooo! Energy the official energy drink of All Elite Wrestling. Flair's AEW deal comes just a couple of weeks after he made his AEW debut, making a surprise appearance as Tony Khan's gift to Sting. Sting is currently on his farewell tour, as he will officially retire from in-ring competition next spring at AEW Revolution. Flair made it clear that he wants to be at that event and by Sting's side for his last couple of months, but this multi-year deal suggests that he will be doing much more than just working with his longtime rival.

Ric Flair is just getting started with AEW.

Speaking to ComicBook.com, Flair responded enthusiastically about the idea of working with son-in-law Andrade El Idolo on AEW TV.

"I would love to manage him. There's not too many guys in the ring that are better than him technically. Man, he can do anything. You watch him and Bryan Danielson. He did some stuff I've never seen him do before and I've seen him do everything. He's unreal. He just needs a mouthpiece. He's been taking English for a couple of years, but it is just hard to certainly understand and can speak it."

Flair previously appeared in Andrade's corner at a Lucha Libre AAA Worldwide show in 2021. Andrade currently wrestles primarily on AEW Collision as a singles babyface.

Beyond his family, Flair pointed to one man at the top of his list: MJF.

"MJF most definitely. I've got to get Tony to let me be a heel for a moment," Flair said. "That kid is great. He's the top of his game right now is still very young."

While Andrade and MJF would be fairly new combinations for Flair, he also has plenty of familiar faces within the AEW locker room, including his final in-ring opponents Jay Lethal and Jeff Jarrett. When asked if there's a chance we could see a sequel to his and Lethal's iconic Wooooo!-off from TNA in 2010, Flair noted he's all for it.

"Oh, I'd love it. I'm a big fan of Jay. Hell, he and Jarrett owe me money!" Flair said. "They're great together. I'm happy for Jeff and I think the world of Jay Lethal, he's one of the most entertaining people in the world. He can do me and [Randy] Savage better than we could do ourselves."

All these possibilities lie in Flair's AEW future, which he says if the phone rings, he's ready to go.

"If they need me, I'm there," Flair said. "Tony is a great guy and money's not an object for Tony."

Ric Flair Comments on New Partnership and Multi-Year Deal With AEW (Exclusive) https://comicbook.com/wwe/news/ric-flair-new-partnership-multi-year-deal-aew-exclusive/ Thu, 02 Nov 2023 19:00:00 +0000 Liam Crowley 99676d42-fb58-44f7-91b3-1c54668a6194

The Nature Boy is back in a wrestling promotion. Ric Flair made his AEW debut this past October, surprising fans as Tony Khan's gift to Sting, who is set to retire from the ring at AEW Revolution in Spring 2024. Flair showed loved for his longtime rival and made it known that he wants to be on Sting's farewell tour alongside him, making note that he will be present at AEW Revolution next year especially. Knowing that Flair has ambitions to be with AEW until next spring at the earliest, many became curious as to if the 16-time world champion would be on a per-appearance deal or if he would sign a full-on AEW contract.

The Nature Boy is All Elite.

As announced in a press release, Ric Flair has signed a multi-year deal with All Elite Wrestling. Beyond his televised appearances, this contract will make Flair's Wooooo! Energy the exclusive energy drink of AEW.

Speaking to ComicBook.com in an exclusive interview, Flair detailed how this partnership came about.

"I actually texted him that we had an energy drink and asked if he would be interested in having a sponsor for the show," Flair said. "We started negotiating with him and then he called me and said, 'Would you want to come to work?' He had talked to Sting and I said, 'Hell yeah.' The only people that knew about it of course were Chad Bronstein (President and Chairman of Carma HoldCo, parent company of Wooooo! Energy), myself, Sting and Tony. I came in as a surprise and it just was a wonderful experience. Sting and I have been working together for 31 years. What a moment."

Flair has been associated with energy for his entire professional wrestling career, as few possess the stamina that Flair showed on a weekly basis inside the ring. That said, the energy drink business is new to the rolex-wearer.

"Chad came up with the idea. They brought it to me," Flair said. "Everybody knows Chad is a wrestling fan when he has time to be, but he grew up wrestling fan. He knows that all the arenas go Wooooo! anyway, no matter whether it's hockey, wrestling or whatever. I've drank Monsters and Red Bull and all that, and this drink puts 'em to sleep."

"It's an all natural energy. It's a functional mushroom, so it's not a psychedelic, that can be carried at any store," Bronstein added. "I saw Ric at the LA Rams game before we started working together. Every stadium, anywhere you go, they scream 'Wooooo!' What he has done is he created a culture with the Wooooo! Our whole thought process was developing Wooooo! Energy because Wooooo! creates energy, momentum in arenas on a daily basis."

Considering Sting is set to ride off into the sunset in just about five months, Flair inking a multi-year deal suggests that he will have more to do on AEW TV than just stand alongside The Icon. When asked who he hopes to work with, Flair pointed to one man.

"Oh, MJF. Most definitely," Flair said. "That kid is great."

AEW returns to television this Friday with AEW Rampage on TNT.

WWE Superstar Undergoes Surgery https://comicbook.com/wwe/news/wwe-superstar-undergoes-surgery-erik-viking-raiders/ Thu, 02 Nov 2023 17:10:00 +0000 Liam Crowley ae55637b-dd8e-4fa0-a4a6-1660705bb8d0

The Viking Raiders are on temporary hold. One half of the heavyweight tag team, Erik, went down with an injury this past September, as he was not cleared to wrestle ahead of a scheduled match on Monday Night Raw. Ever since then, Erik's tag partner Ivar has operated as a singles competitor, slowly rising the ranks and seemingly setting his sights on the WWE Intercontinental Championship down the line. It remained unknown as to how long Ivar's singles run would go, as fans expected him to be back in the tag division as soon as Erik became cleared for competition. Based on a recent procedure, that might not be for a while.

Erik of The Viking Raiders Undergoes Surgery

wwe-viking-raiders-ivar-injury-wwe-raw-1236155.jpg

Erik is recovering from neck surgery.

Taking to Instagram, Erik of The Viking Raiders shared that he underwent neck surgery recently to fuse his C6 and C7.

"I cannot express the proper gratitude and thankfulness to the amazing Dr Cordover and his incredible staff at @andrews_sports_medicine and St Vincent's Hospital in Birmingham, AL and to @wwe for always making sure I have the best care possible," Erik wrote. "C6 / C7 fusion surgery was successful and recovery begins now. I'm excited for all the possibilities once my cybernetic upgrades come fully online."

Erik has been wrestling since the 2010s. He and Ivar first met each other as opponents in Ring of Honor's Top Prospect Tournament in 2014, facing off against one another in the finals. Following their match as adversaries, the duo then known as Hanson (Ivar) and Rowe (Erik) joined forces to form a tag team called War Machine.

War Machine went on to dominate the independent circuit and held titles in major promotions like Ring of Honor and New Japan Pro Wrestling. Their success got them on the radar of WWE, and by 2018 both men were signed to developmental contracts. Hanson and Rowe made their WWE debut for the NXT brand as "War Raiders" and went on to run roughshod on the tag division, eventually capturing the NXT Tag Team Championships.

Their main roster run started out shaky, as the popular "War Raiders" name was dropped in favor of the critically-panned "Viking Experience." WWE would tweak the name in the following weeks to "The Viking Raiders." It wouldn't take long for Erik and Ivar to find their footing as they would go on to become Raw Tag Team Champions.

Stay tuned to ComicBook.com for updates on Erik's recovery.

LA Knight Reveals Backstage Conversation With The Rock at WWE SmackDown https://comicbook.com/wwe/news/la-knight-backstage-conversation-the-rock-wwe-smackdown/ Thu, 02 Nov 2023 15:30:00 +0000 Liam Crowley 3123a0ee-cdd0-484b-9582-5a9efd45b98b

LA Knight is days away from the biggest match of his career. The Megastar is set to challenge Undisputed WWE Universal Champion Roman Reigns at WWE Crown Jewel, making this time first time he has received a world title match in WWE as well as the first time he is headlining a premium live event. Knight's popularity has seen a groundswell of momentum throughout 2023, but longtime fans of the former Eli Drake have known what he is capable of for well over a decade. Back in 2013, Knight was a contestant on the short-lived reality competition series The Hero, hosted by none other than Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson.

LA Knight and The Rock Reunite at WWE SmackDown

The Megastar and the People's Champion briefly crossed paths a couple of weeks ago.

Speaking to Daily Mail, LA Knight revealed that he did in fact bump into The Rock when he popped by the September 15th episode of WWE SmackDown.

"I mean, just a quick kind of, you know, bro hug and 'Hey, man, how you been? You're doing great awesome!'" Knight recalled. "You know, all that kind of stuff. But at least it was a quick little 'good to see again.'"

The Rock is actually partly responsible for Knight's initial introduction to WWE. On the finale of The Hero back in 2013, an already-eliminated Knight returned to the show alongside that season's entire cast. On that finale, Knight revealed that he had signed a WWE developmental deal, which Rock proceeded to bait him into a classic "it doesn't matter what you think!" after asking him about his confidence levels going into the new gig.

Knight spent just over one year on that deal with WWE, wrestling as Slate Randall. He never made it out of developmental. After getting released, Knight hit the independent circuit once more before finding a new home in TNA. He initially debuted on Impact Wrestling alongside Drew Galloway (Drew McIntyre) and Micah (Tanga Loa) as part of a stable called The Rising. After that group disbanded, Knight flourished as a singles star, working his way up to become Impact World Champion. After a brief run with the NWA, WWE would come calling again, and Knight has been back in the premier sports-entertainment company ever since.

Knight challenges Reigns this Saturday at WWE Crown Jewel, streaming live on Peacock.

Ricky Starks Reflects on Cancelled AEW All Out Main Event Match Against CM Punk https://comicbook.com/wwe/news/ricky-starks-cancelled-aew-all-out-cm-punk/ Thu, 02 Nov 2023 14:18:00 +0000 Liam Crowley 7724595a-8374-46cf-b9a6-30820a2f30fa

Ricky Starks has had a breakout year in 2023. The 33-year-old star has been with AEW since Summer 2020 when he answered then-AEW TNT Champion Cody Rhodes's open challenge and subsequently earned himself a contract with the company. Since then, Starks has taken the ball and ran with every opportunity that he has been presented with, whether it be as a supporting player in a faction or holding an unsanctioned championship. Starks got his biggest victory to date this past summer when he defeated CM Punk in the finals of the Owen Hart Cup Tournament, a win that was supposed to lead to a bigger program.

All signs pointed to Starks challenging Punk for the "real world championship" in the main event of AEW All Out this past September, but then Punk got fired. As a result, Starks was pivoted to a feud with Bryan Danielson.

Ricky Starks Reflects on AEW All Out Frustrations

In an alternate timeline, Ricky Starks has already main-evented a pay-per-view.

Speaking to the Black Rasslin' Podcast, Starks reflected on the frustrations he felt after his internally scheduled headlining AEW All Out match against CM Punk was scrapped.

"Here's the truth about it. The circumstances leading up to the strap match was very chaotic and a point of frustration for me. If you saw that Collision, I went out and started the show with a very heartfelt message that I wanted to get to people," Starks said. "It wasn't me whining and complaining. It was more of a message of, 'Look, even somebody like me, even somebody who is dedicated and puts in the work, takes the steps back due to outside sources.'"

Starks instead wrestled Bryan Danielson on that show in a bout that fell in the middle of the card. Fans and critics alike raved about the story these two told, which helped Starks pick himself back up again.

"Afterwards, the reception of it was so overwhelming for me that, on the flight home, I was looking through my text messages. It's just a lot of people were like, 'Man, that was amazing.' It really touched something into me where it kind of, I kind of found myself again a bit," Starks continued. "Not saying that I lost myself, but something that was dormant woke back up. I felt so inspired, and I was just moved by it because I didn't have any expectations about it and I went out there, and I gave it one thousand percent."

Starks competes on AEW Collision every Saturday at 8 PM ET on TNT.

AEW: Fight Forever just got a major patch across all platforms, and the patch has a number of updates, bug fixes, and adjustments. Shocking Title Change on AEW Dynamite https://comicbook.com/wwe/news/shocking-title-change-aew-dynamite-hangman-young-bucks/ Thu, 02 Nov 2023 01:03:00 +0000 Liam Crowley 2e79033a-af71-4370-81a9-833a7dbd069e

Since Tony Khan purchased Ring of Honor in early 2022, there has been consistent synergy between that brand and All Elite Wrestling. ROH's first batch of pay-per-views under Khan's ownership all featured AEW talent in some capacity, and by the time that the year ended, all of ROH's championships were held by AEW stars. Today, ROH has a bit more of its own identity thanks to its weekly television series, but that has not stopped the promotion from crossing over with AEW programming. Names like Eddie Kingston and MJF both hold ROH gold while also being regulars on AEW Dynamite and AEW Collision.

The latest example of this came when Hangman Page and the Young Bucks captured the ROH Six-Man Tag Team Championships. The trio defeated The Mogul Embassy at AEW Rampage: Grand Slam to begin their second reign with the titles.

The Elite Shocking Lose ROH Six-Man Titles

Hangman Page and the Young Bucks are no longer champions.

Tonight's AEW Dynamite saw The Mogul Embassy recapture the ROH Six-Man Tag Team Championships when they took out The Elite. The tandem of Brian Cage and the Gates of Agony got the numbers advantage thanks to an assist from Swerve Strickland, who taunted Hangman on the ramp. This led to Hangman chasing down Swerve, leaving the Bucks at a three-on-two disadvantage.

From there, The Mogul Embassy picked at the scraps and got the 1-2-3 in short order. After the bell, Matt Jackson was visibly furious, flipping a table at ringside and swinging a chair at the ring posts.

This begins The Mogul Embassy's second reign with the ROH Six-Man Tag Team Championships. The unit previous won the titles back at ROH Final Battle in December 2022 and reigned with the prizes until this past September when they briefly dropped them to The Elite.

Major Update on Bryan Danielson's Injury Timetable: When Will He Return to AEW TV? https://comicbook.com/wwe/news/update-bryan-danielson-injury-timetable-return-aew-tv/ Wed, 01 Nov 2023 19:17:00 +0000 Liam Crowley 7aa3d138-7e7f-4421-bd65-92fef3063148

Bryan Danielson is once again on the shelf. The American Dragon suffered a broken orbital bone during a match against Andrade El Idolo on AEW Collision in October. Just five days later, Danielson wrestled again, teaming with Blackpool Combat Club stablemate Claudio Castagnoli to face Kazuchika Okada and AEW International Champion Orange Cassidy on AEW Dynamite. After the match, AEW made an effort to show Danielson clutching his face as Okada taunted him, seemingly making The Rainmaker responsible for his legitimate injury within storyline to potentially lay the groundwork for a future rematch between the two.

Bryan Danielson Out For Several Weeks

The American Dragon is out of action.

As revealed on the latest episode of AEW Control Center, Bryan Danielson has in fact undergone surgery for his broken orbital bone and will remain on the shelf "until later in the year." This gives some optimism to the possibility that Danielson will be healthy by AEW's last pay-per-view event of 2023, AEW Worlds End, which goes down on December 30th.

If he is good to go by then, Danielson would also be healthy by NJPW Wrestle Kingdom 18. There is no word on if there are plans for Danielson to compete at New Japan's signature show in January, but he has long professed his desire to compete in the Far East. Considering Kazuchika Okada does not currently have an opponent for the event, as the IWGP World Heavyweight Championship will be contested between titleholder Sanada and G1 Climax winner Tetsuya Naito, an AEW x NJPW Forbidden Door rematch with Danielson could be in the cards if he is good to go by then.

This orbital bone injury is Danielson's latest physical setback in his AEW run. Last summer, Danielson suffered a concussion at AEW Double or Nothing and was forced to miss both AEW Dynamite: Blood & Guts as well as AEW x NJPW Forbidden Door 2022. This past June, Danielson broke his arm in his first singles encounter with Okada which resulted in him missing AEW ALL IN: London.

Stay tuned to ComicBook.com for updates on Danielson's recovery and return to the ring.

Sting Reveals Original AEW Retirement Plans https://comicbook.com/wwe/news/sting-original-aew-retirement-plans-ric-flair/ Wed, 01 Nov 2023 14:45:00 +0000 Liam Crowley 9c2f78ed-98ed-4429-81c5-39aec083bbcf

Sting is ready to call it a career. Earlier this fall, The Icon announced his retirement plans on AEW Dynamite, revealing that he will have his last match next spring at AEW Revolution. Until then, Sting will remain involved in AEW storylines on essentially a weekly basis, as he is currently entangled in a multi-man feud alongside Darby Allin and Adam Copeland against AEW TNT Champion Christian Cage, Luchasaurus and Nick Wayne. As evident by his tag partners Allin and Copeland, Sting has no shortage of allies on his retirement tour, and last week he gained another one.

Ric Flair made his AEW debut on the October 25th edition of AEW Dynamite, hitting the ring to show love to Sting. Flair revealed that he will be on Sting's retirement tour with him, specifically mentioning AEW Revolution as an event that he wants to be at.

Sting's Original Retirement Plans

(Photo: AEW)

If circumstances were different, 2023 would be the last year of showtime.

Speaking to Sports Illustrated, Sting revealed that he originally looked at December as where he would retire, but Ric Flair's involvement shifted plans.

"I wanted to finish earlier, maybe in December," Sting said. "But now that Ric is here with me, I want to go longer, all the way to Revolution."

Sting and Flair's careers will always be intertwined. While The Nature Boy was dominating the territory scene in the 1980s, a young Sting was on his way up the ranks. Sting would battle Flair for the NWA World Championship in 1988, going to a time-limit draw. Over the next several decades, Sting and Flair would find each other in the ring on many more occasions including in both WCW and TNA.

"When Ric came out and I heard his music play, it hit me, had this flashback, and it made me emotional. Ric is the guy who put me on the map," Sting continued. "We've traveled around the world together, and Ric helped make me. Now he's going to finish with me. After all the travel, all the matches, all the press slams, all the chops, I experienced the same feeling on Dynamite this past week with Ric that I did on that final [WCW] Nitro. Except this time, it was so much more positive.

"All I can say for now is I want people to walk away and say, 'Wow, what an ending,' I'll be three weeks away from turning 65 at that point. I want to leave people with a memory that will mean something."

AEW Dynamite returns tonight at 8 PM ET on TBS.

AEW Dynamite Preview: MJF vs. Bullet Club Gold, Omega and Jericho Team Up, Tony Khan's Announcement https://comicbook.com/wwe/news/aew-dynamite-preview-mjf-bullet-club-gold-omega-jericho-tony-khan-announcement/ Wed, 01 Nov 2023 14:13:00 +0000 Liam Crowley 28d37210-8938-442c-989f-05f3e04d08f1

All Elite Wrestling continues on the road to AEW Full Gear. This past weekend, it was cemented that it will be MJF defending the AEW World Championship against Jay White at that pay-per-view, as he successfully retained his title over Kenny Omega on AEW Collision. That victory locked in MJF's reign as the longest run with the AEW World Title in company history. Even though he is now immortalized in the history books, MJF is actually still without his title. Weeks ago, White and Bullet Club Gold beat down MJF and stole the big Burberry belt, keeping it in their possession ever since.

Bullet Club Gold vs. MJF and Mystery Partners

Tonight, MJF looks to get his belt back.

The self-proclaimed generational talent has challenged Bullet Club Gold (Jay White, Juice Robinson and The Gunns) to an eight-man tag match against himself and three partners of his choosing. All signs point to those three partners being the AEW World Trios Champions, The Acclaimed and Billy Gunn, but MJF's frustrations with Max Caster could lead to a swerve. Ring of Honor Television Champion Samoa Joe has also promised to have MJF's back as long as he gets a future world title shot, so MJF could enlist his help in tonight's match.

Kenny Omega and Chris Jericho Team Up

Winnipeg's favorite sons are joining forces.

Kenny Omega and Chris Jericho will tag together to take on Jericho's former allies, Angelo Parker and Matt Menard. Omega is coming off a hard-hitting title match against MJF four days ago on AEW Collision.

Tony Khan's Announcement

AEW President Tony Khan will make another announcement on tonight's broadcast. There is no clear word on what this announcement will be, but the constant speculation of a streaming deal has always circulated whenever a new announcement is teased. This announcement could be further details related to AEW Worlds End, AEW's newest pay-per-view that was quietly revealed during the main event of AEW Dynamite last week.

Trick Williams Returns, Costs Carmelo Hayes WWE NXT Title at Halloween Havoc https://comicbook.com/wwe/news/trick-williams-returns-costs-carmelo-hayes-wwe-nxt-title-at-halloween-havoc/ Wed, 01 Nov 2023 03:19:00 +0000 Matthew Aguilar fca0e807-8a88-4024-8122-4b86cc092181

The main event of WWE NXT's Halloween Havoc Night Two was the third in a trilogy of matches between NXT Champion Ilja Dragunov and Carmelo Hayes, and it delivered as expected. Hayes and Dragunov have yet to turn in a disappointing match, and this one was no different, with both superstars brutally picking each other apart in a bevy of ways. Both stars took some painful-looking slams on the ring apron and the announce table, and throughout Dragunov would find ways to shut the challenger down. Hayes would turn the tables though and set himself up for a possible win, but that's when Trick Williams returned, and his stare burned a hole through Hayes. That was enough to distract Hayes and allow Dragunov to get the pin and the win, but the story between Williams and Hayes is clearly just beginning.

Hayes went for a kick but Dragunov caught it. They traded chops and then Dragunov evaded a kick and knocked the challenger down. A suplex followed and Hayes dodged a kick and threw Dragunov to the mat. Hayes hit big blows to the back of Dragunov's head and then they traded punches. Slaps to the side of the head followed and then they both went for kicks and knocked each other to the mat.

Dragunov was on his feet quickly and kept Hayes down, but Hayes was able to come back and knock the Champ to the mat. Hayes worked on Dragunov's wrist and arm, kicking it repeatedly. Dragunov head-butted Hayes to the mat and then followed it up with a kick and a strike to the back. Hayes bought himself some space but then got hit on the side of the head with Dragunov's boot. The two stars once again traded punches and then Dragunov hit a powerbomb and went for the cover, but Hayes kicked out.

Dragunov then hit a massive lariat and went for the cover, but Hayes kicked out again. Dragunov was getting frustrated and stomped the challenger before hitting knee strikes and more punches. Hayes spun Dragunov around out of nowhere and slammed him down before going for a cover, but the Champion kicked out. Hayes went up top but Dragunov met him and threw him down on the mat.

Hayes caught Dragunov up top and knocked him down hard to the floor. Hayes then jumped over the ropes and hit an impressive DDT, slamming Dragunov off the ring apron. Hayes went up top and hit a Frog Splash before going for the pin, but Dragunov kicked out. Dragunov hit Hayes with a clothesline and a double stomp before slamming Hayes down again and going for the cover. Hayes was able to kick out, and he came back with a kick to Dragunov's head.

Dragunov had a kick of his own, and then he hit another kick before hitting an H-Bomb. He didn't get all of it though and couldn't go for the cover. Dragunov then went for a submission but then ran into Hayes' boots, knocking the Champ to the mat. Hayes tried to go for another DDT but Dragunov caught him and lifted him up on his shoulders. Dragunov then slammed Hayes on the ring apron, and both stars were on the floor.

Dragunov cleared off the announce table and threw Hayes on top of it. Then the Champ got on top of the barricade and hit the H-Bomb, shattering the table. Dragunov hit a knee strike once he got Hayes back in the ring, and then he punched the challenger and knocked him to the mat. Dragunov went up top, but Hayes went for a move and Dragunov caught him. Dragunov went to knock Hayes down but Hayes brought Dragunov down only for the Champion to counter the move into a pin, but Hayes somehow kicked out. Dragunov went up top again but got caught by Hayes. Hayes went top but then Trick's music hit.

Hayes was stunned, and Trick was angry to boot. Dragunov then slammed Hayes down and went for the Torpedo and got it. Dragunov pinned Hayes and retained his Championship, and for Hayes, it is likely we're seeing the end of Trick Melo Gang very soon.

Logan Paul Shares Love to Rey Mysterio Ahead of WWE Crown Jewel https://comicbook.com/wwe/news/logan-paul-rey-mysterio-wwe-crown-jewel/ Wed, 01 Nov 2023 02:23:00 +0000 Liam Crowley beb34f34-d16c-4820-9ca9-61b5dddcda39

Logan Paul is on the precipice of winning his first championship in combat sports. The social media superstar will challenge Rey Mysterio for the WWE United States Title at WWE Crown Jewel, a match he is going into as a heavy favorite. This will be Paul's second shot at gold in WWE, as he previously headlined WWE Crown Jewel 2022 in a losing effort to Undisputed WWE Universal Champion Roman Reigns. Beyond the championship implications, this next bout is a bit of a full circle moment for Paul, as his first ever professional wrestling match came against Rey and Dominik Mysterio in a tag bout at WWE WrestleMania 38.

Logan Paul Shows Respect to Rey Mysterio

(Photo: WWE)

Saturday is all business for The Maverick.

Speaking on his Impaulsive podcast, Logan Paul admitted that he has "love" and "respect" for Rey Mysterio but his desire to win the WWE United States Championship outweighs any prior sentiments.

"I'm going for you bro, you're looking at the future US Champ right here.

While many fans rolled their eyes at Paul challenging for the Undisputed WWE Universal Championship in just his third ever wrestling match last year, this latest shot at gold has left a lot more people on his side. Paul had already impressed in his debut and subsequent singles match against The Miz at WWE SummerSlam, but approval for the young wrestler skyrocketed following barnburners against Seth Rollins and Ricochet in 2023.

"I got the bug. I'm doing these things and this comes so much more natural to me than boxing," Paul reflected on his WWE momentum. "People tell me I belong here, I actually feel like I belong. I have the opportunity to go after these champions and win these belts, I don't know how many humans get this opportunity, I might have to take this. It's nice when you have something that people are kind of forced to respect you for."

WWE Crown Jewel goes down this Saturday, November 4th, on Peacock.

Chelsea Green and Piper Niven Retain WWE Women's Tag Titles at NXT Halloween Havoc https://comicbook.com/wwe/news/chelsea-green-and-piper-niven-retain-wwe-womens-tag-titles-at-nxt-halloween-havoc/ Wed, 01 Nov 2023 01:45:00 +0000 Matthew Aguilar 0ee3ffad-5681-4972-8a1f-a9a3f3647242

Chase University looked to add more Championship gold to their ranks at Halloween Havoc, as Thea Hail and Jack Jayne looked to dethrone WWE Women's Tag Team Champions Chelsea Green and Piper Niven. Hail and Jayne didn't waste any time going after the Champions, attacking them before they got in the ring and taking Niven out of commission early. Niven eventually got back in the ring, but both Champs had a hard time targeting Hail and Jayne, who kept isolating Niven and Green. At one point it looked as if the Champions would fall, but Andre Chase wouldn't let Jayne cheat with a Title. That led to Green hitting her finisher and getting the win, retaining their Championships.

Hail and Jayne went right at the Champions before they even got to the ring. Then Jayne helped Hail slam Niven into the steel steps, leaving Green on her own in the ring against Jayne. Jayne hit Green with a kick to the face and then tagged in Hail, throwing Green over with a hip toss. Green dodged the next move but then missed Hail with an impressive evasion, and again Hail evaded Green with an impressive dodge.

Hail kept dodging Green and eventually collided with the Champion after a dive through the ropes. Niven was back on her feet and caught Hail, but Jayne then knocked Niven to the floor, and both Champs were lying on the floor. Hail tagged in Jayne with Green in the ring, and they suplexed Green into a pin attempt, but Green kicked out.

Hail tagged in and had Green in a chin lock, but Niven secretly tagged in and caught Hail by surprise, resulting in a senton on Hail into a pin attempt. Hail kicked out, but the previous move did some damage, and Niven took advantage. Niven slammed Hail in the corner and then tagged in Green, who connected with a kick to the side of Hail's head. Niven tagged back in and went for the cover, but Hail kicked out.

Niven then had Hail caught but Hail knocked the Champ down and reached for Jayne. Unfortunately, Green caught her and went for a move, but Hail dodged yet again and tagged in Jayne. Jayne came in and knocked Green Loopy with big kicks and strikes, and then she dodged a charging Niven, who ran into her partner. Jayne went for the cover on Green but Green kicked out. Jayne hit a spine buster on Green and went for the cover, but Niven broke it up. Hail then was caught by Niven again and got slammed face-first to the mat.

Jayne knocked out Niven and then traded punches and kicks with Green, knocking both stars down. Jayne then went to use the Title but Andre took it from her and said she didn't need it. Then Green hit the Unprettier and got the pin and the win.

Wes Lee Returns After Dominik Mysterio Retains at WWE NXT Halloween Havoc https://comicbook.com/wwe/news/wes-lee-returns-after-dominik-mysterio-retains-at-wwe-nxt-halloween-havoc/ Wed, 01 Nov 2023 01:05:00 +0000 Matthew Aguilar 6b61a1e3-f38d-4bad-919e-87e23fa8c33a

Night two of WWE NXT's Halloween Havoc got off to a hot start thanks to the talented Tag Team division, and that led to the first Championship match of the evening. Dominik Mysterio defended his NXT North American Championship against Nathan Frazer, and since this was Dominik, Mami Rhea Ripley was by his side. That ended up factoring into the match, but surprisingly not the result. Ripley tried to interfere, but that ended up not playing out like she planned. Mysterio would evade Frazer late in the match, and Frazer ended up colliding hard with the announce table. Mysterio hit the splash and then got the win, though he was soon greeted with a returning Wes Lee.

Mysterio and Frazer locked up quickly but separated after exchanging holds and coming to a stalemate. They locked up again and Mysterio slammed Frazer down, but he got right back to his feet. Mysterio got Frazer in a corner and connected with some strikes and kicks, but Frazer dodged the next combo and slid underneath Mysterio before hip-tossing Mysterio several times and knocking him out of the ring.

Frazer bounced off the ropes and then blazed right past Mysterio before he collided with the Champion and knocked him out of the ring again. Ripley consoled Mysterio outside of the ring, and Frazer had to go around her to get to Mysterio. Frazer got the Champ back in the ring but met a stomp to the chest. Mysterio kept up the attack with more stomps, and then he kept going with even more stomps.

Frazer almost bounced off the turnbuckle after a hard throw, and then Mysterio went for the pin, but Frazer kicked out. Mysterio dodged a move by Frazer in the corner and went to capitalize with a senton, but that still wasn't enough to keep Frazer down for the pin. Mysterio stayed aggressive, locking in a hold to keep the speedster grounded on the mat.

Frazer hit a brainbuster on Mysterio and that looked to damage the Champion's shoulder a bit. Frazer connected with more strikes and had the Champ on his heels, but Mysterio came back with a hard slap to the face. Frazer tackled Mysterio but the Champ got away only to get hit with a forearm. Mysterio and Frazer traded enzuigiris and then Frazer went for a pin but Mysterio kicked out.

Frazer went for a sliding kick on Mysterio but he moved and Ripley got in the way. Frazer got revenge with a huge dropkick that knocked Mysterio into the announce table. Frazer missed on a move and Mysterio countered by lifting him up and bringing him down on the ropes. Mysterio went up to but Frazer ran up and joined him and hit a superplex. Then Frazer hit a Twist and a Turn into a cover, but Mysterio kicked out.

Ripley went to give Mysterio the Title but he kicked it accidentally. Frazer capitalized but was hit by Dominik, only for the Champion to get hit in the face with a big kick, knocking both stars down. Frazer then dove off the top rope but missed Mysterio and landed hard on the announce table. The Champ got him in the ring and hit a Frog Splash, retaining his North American Championship.

Then Wes Lee returned to TV and delivered a beatdown to Mysterio before lifting the Championship and taunting the Champ.

Anoa'i Family Member "Sees" Himself Joining The Bloodline in WWE https://comicbook.com/wwe/news/anoai-family-joining-the-bloodline-wwe-lance-anoai/ Tue, 31 Oct 2023 20:30:00 +0000 Liam Crowley 1aae37e1-aea7-412e-a897-9da1243c0639

The Bloodline has been running strong in WWE as a defined faction for three years now, but if realized to its full potential, the Anoa'i stable has the potential to run sports-entertainment for years to come. The Anoa'i family has been tied to professional wrestling for decades, as the likes of WWE Hall of Famers The Wild Samoans and "High Chief" Peter Maivia dominated the sport in the 1960s and 1970s. It wasn't until the Attitude Era that the likes of The Rock and Rikishi elevated the Anoa'i family name to a new gold standard, and that high bar was raised even more when Roman Reigns and The Usos burst onto the scene in the 2010s.

Today, Reigns leads The Bloodline, a stable comprised of his cousins Solo Sikoa and Jimmy Uso. With the group currently short one Jey Uso, many have speculated that Reigns could turn to his family members outside of WWE to fill the void.

Lance Anoa'i "Sees" Himself Joining The Bloodline

Wrestling has more than one royal family.

Speaking to The Shining Wizards Wrestling Podcast, former MLW star Lance Anoa'i believes he could be among The Bloodline ranks one day.

"I do see myself in it, but with my MLW contract, I don't see myself in it [laughs]," Lance said. "I would love to be in it. I want to be part of [it]. Man, ever since they brought Solo in, I thought I could have been a part of it with him. Me, I believe Jacob [Fatu] could be a top star in there. There's a lot of us in there. Especially because it's called The Bloodline, I feel like we just need all the members of the family there."

It's worth noting that Lance is currently a free agent, as he recently announced that Major League Wrestling has granted his requested release. If his MLW contract was what was holding him back from joining the group on television before, that is no longer a factor.

"Honestly, I believe The Bloodline in WWE is why we are at the top and why I'm growing," Lance said of his success on the independent circuit. "Jacob's even becoming such a bigger star. Look at Sefa, who is Solo now. He just got brought up and right into the main spot, so I believe The Bloodline was a big help to the whole family."

How Long Will Seth Rollins Wrestle For? WWE World Champion Gives Update https://comicbook.com/wwe/news/seth-rollins-wwe-career-retire/ Tue, 31 Oct 2023 20:08:00 +0000 Liam Crowley 745e4a77-df30-48ee-8d4f-9f667c2f0f82

Seth Rollins is coming up on 20 years in the wrestling industry. The wrestler formerly known as Tyler Black first hit the independent circuit in 2005 and went on to make a name for himself in Ring of Honor throughout the late 2000s. This got him on WWE's radar, and by 2010, he was on a developmental contract. Flash forward to the present day, and Rollins has established himself as one of the faces of WWE's current generation, boasting a r?sum? that is rivaled by few. He is currently in his third extended run as world champion and has been positioned as the top dog on Monday Night Raw.

That said, Rollins's days in that position may be numbered. Leading into his multi-premium live event feud with Shinsuke Nakamura, the WWE World Heavyweight Champion's legitimate back injury was given a spotlight. There had been no specific incident that led to Rollins's back being banged up, but the wear and tear of wrestling an "iron man" schedule has begun to catch up to him.

Seth Rollins Isn't Going Anywhere

The Visionary is here to stay.

Speaking on Mythical Kitchen's Last Meals, Seth Rollins noted that he sees no end in sight for his in-ring career.

"I don't intend on stopping anytime soon. Like I said, I'm still in that window," Rollins said. "The business is hot, I'm having a lot of fun, so I don't know. I don't see it anytime in the immediate future, let's just say that."

At 37 years old, Rollins realistically has enough gas left in the tank to perform at a high level for at least another decade. The shelf life for a professional wrestler has increased drastically in the modern era thanks to better health habits from the wrestlers themselves and the advancement of medicine and other rehabbing techniques.

While his long-term career is fairly protected, there is always the question of what lies in Rollins's short-term future. As mentioned, his back will require surgery eventually, but it is just a matter of when Rollins is able to take the time to get a procedure done.

"My lower back has been at me since 2019, probably should get some surgery on that," Rollins said in a prior interview. "But trying to just do whatever I can to make sure I don't need it because I have a couple of stress fractures back there."

Rollins defends his WWE World Heavyweight Championship against Drew McIntyre at WWE Crown Jewel this Saturday, November 4th.

The Undertaker Was Concerned That Vince McMahon Would Give Him a Singing Gimmick https://comicbook.com/wwe/news/the-undertaker-vince-mcmahon-singing-gimmick-wwe/ Tue, 31 Oct 2023 15:36:00 +0000 Liam Crowley f600c4fd-72ef-49bc-a38e-422a3afd5344

The Undertaker is one of professional wrestling's most iconic gimmicks. Debuting in an era that embraced the absurd, Mark Calaway's undead wizard mortician that wrestled on the side should have never worked, but his commitment to the gimmick allowed it to flourish for decades. The Undertaker went on to have one of the most decorated careers of all time, winning dozens of championships and holding a mystical WWE WrestleMania winning streak that stretched for 21 matches. Taker called it a career after WWE WrestleMania 36 in 2020 but has still made the odd annual appearance on WWE TV in his more grounded biker persona.

All that being said, things might have gone very differently if WWE Chairman Vince McMahon capitalized on another one of Taker's talents.

The Undertaker Could Have Had a Singing Gimmick

In another timeline, The Deadman serenades his opponents instead of telling them to Rest In Peace.

Speaking on Six Feet Under, The Undertaker recalled going to Vince McMahon's house after finishing up his WCW commitments to discuss how he would be utilized in the WWF.

"We start talking, Bruce [Prichard] is putting me over, I'm telling my life story. I feel like it's going pretty good. He asks me, 'Do you have any other talents? Do you sing? Do you dance?' I say, 'Only in the shower,'" Taker recalled. "As soon as I said it, I was like, 'Ohh, I shouldn't have said that.' It was the time of outlandish gimmicks."

Taker's debut came at a time where the WWF utilized real-life jobs and non-wrestling talents for the roster's personas. The locker room was made up of garbagemen, baseball players, barbers, dentists and more.

"Now I'm thinking, 'I'm going to be singing in the shower guy.' As soon as I said 'I sing in the shower,' Vince is like, 'Really?!' Oh no, I've screwed up. I was just trying to be funny," Taker continued. "This meeting goes on and it feels like it's been two hours."

Fortunately for Taker, McMahon did not pry further on his singing abilities.

"We get to the end of the meeting. 'Well, we don't have anything for you. Maybe after WrestleMania we'll have something for you then.' I thanked him for his time," Taker added. "The only reason I got a shot is because, at that meeting, I don't think he thought I was a draw or would be a draw, but he liked the person. He liked who he was talking to and that is why I think he gave me a chance."

New Day, Chelsea Green and Piper Niven Troll WWE Superstars With Halloween Costumes https://comicbook.com/wwe/news/monday-night-raw-halloween-costumes-wwe-new-day-chelsea-green-piper-niven/ Tue, 31 Oct 2023 02:54:00 +0000 Charlie Ridgely 820fd460-e34d-459d-a812-4b88ade4b941

Halloween may not be until Tuesday, but some WWE Superstars on Monday Night RAW took their opportunity to dress up while they were on TV. While not everyone on the RAW roster donned a costume for Monday's new episode, those that did also took the opportunity to troll some of their rivals and opponents with WWE-themed outfits. The WWE Women's Tag Team Champion duo of Chelsea Green and Piper Niven showed up to the event as a pair of WWE legends, while the New Day delivered their take on rival group the Judgement Day.

Early in Monday's new episode, a couple members of the Judgement Day were having a conversation in the back, only to get approached by Kofi Kingston and Xavier Woods. Kingston was dressed as Damian Priest, complete with a to-go container version of Priest's Money in the Bank briefcase. Woods donned straightened hair and a cut-off flannel shirt as he did his best impression of NXT North American Champion Dominik Mysterio.

Rhea Ripley and Mysterio showed up to crash the party during the segment, and not every seemed amused by the costumes, but the fans clearly loved the New Day's Halloween attire.

Later on during RAW, Chelsea Green was set to take on Natalya during a Halloween-themed "Trick or Street" match. Before the match began, Green and her tag team partner Piper Niven appeared in a segment backstage with Adam Pearce. They instantly grabbed the attention of viewers, as they were dressed in full costume as the Hart Foundation.

Green dressed as Bret "The Hitman" Hart, complete with sunglasses and pink frills on her leather jacket. Niven stole the show, however, dressing as the late Jim "The Anvil" Neidhart. Niven came equipped with Neidhart's signature goatee, as well as fake chest hair poking out of her jacket.

While the costumes themselves are great, there's actually a deeper layer to the decision to dress up as the Hart Foundation. The costume reveal came just before Green's singles bout with Natalya. If you didn't know, Natalya is the daughter of Jim Neidhart, so the outfits were also meant to be a way to throw off Green's competition ahead of their big Monday night bout. While Natalya didn't dress as any recognizable WWE Superstar, she did head to the ring in a full bunny costume, keeping with the Halloween theme of the match.

What did you think of the WWE's costumes on Monday Night RAW? Let us know in the comments!

Seth Rollins on Character Work in WWE: "Good and Evil Aren't Always So Black and White." https://comicbook.com/wwe/news/seth-rollins-character-work-wwe-good-evil/ Mon, 30 Oct 2023 19:33:00 +0000 Liam Crowley fdf4cb63-c11c-433a-bc3c-e50d8d9e5429

Seth Rollins is currently on the third world title run of his career. The Visionary first had a taste of the main event scene in 2015 when he became WWE Champion at WWE WrestleMania 31 and spent the rest of that year as a fairly cut and dry bad guy. Four years later, Rollins would once again win a world title at a WrestleMania, the WWE Universal Championship at WWE WrestleMania 35, but this time around he was a fully-fledged conquering hero. His popularity during this run gradually soured until WWE was forced to turn him heel once more. Four years on from that, Rollins is once again a world champion, but his current character is somewhere in the middle.

Rollins is undoubtedly a fan favorite, as he receives some of the most positive reactions every week, but his persona's morality operates in a shade of gray. He basks in crowd singalongs to a near-narcissistic level. He belittles his opponents on the microphone. He takes the occasional shortcut to win matches.

"Life is not black and white, and so good and evil aren't always so black and white. There's a lot of gray area. The other thing is that it always changes. The same thing goes with wrestling, right?" Rollins told Last Meals regarding his current perception of his character work in wrestling. "So to figure out how that applies to a large crowd, what they want or what they want to cheer, the difference between a good guy and a bad guy, a heel and a babyface, I think figuring that out and being able to put it into practice teaches you a lot about people."

This latest "good guy" version of Rollins is not dissimilar from the antagonist he portrayed on WWE TV just a year ago. As evident by his match with Roman Reigns at WWE Royal Rumble 2022 and his months-long feud with Cody Rhodes later that summer, Rollins had the ability to fulfill either the babyface or heel position without making drastic changes to his character. It wasn't until he became WWE United States Champion in Summer 2022 that Rollins clearly turned face again, but as emphasized, this pompous version of the former Shield member is not above using the odd heel tactic here and there.

Watch WWE's Seth Rollins Discuss his Role in Marvel's Captain America 4 on Mythical Kitchen's Last Meals (Exclusive) https://comicbook.com/wwe/news/watch-wwe-seth-rollins-discuss-his-role-in-marvels-captain-america-4-on-mythical-kitchens-last-meals-exclusive/ Mon, 30 Oct 2023 19:21:00 +0000 Matthew Aguilar 419b8e68-3d15-43fb-829c-f31d08b14ec6

WWE World Heavyweight Champion Seth Rollins is one of the biggest stars in WWE, and now he's jumping in the world of Hollywood in a major way. Rollins will play a yet-to-be-revealed villain in the upcoming Captain America: Brave New World, and while Rollins isn't revealing who he is playing yet, he did talk about joining the Marvel Cinematic Universe and what he hopes fans get from his take on the character in the new episode of Last Meals with Mythical Chef Josh Scherer. During the episode, Rollins opens up about being nervous when things venture outside of wrestling, bringing a Marvel character to life, and more. You can watch an exclusive clip from the episode below, and the full episode will be available on Mythical Kitchen on Tuesday, October 31st.

Scherer brought up Captain America: Brave New World and asked what Rollins could say about the role. Rollins said, "Nope, can't do that! Can't tell you nothing about that (smiles)." Rollins then opened up a bit on the overall experience, saying, "It was a really good experience and I think it's going to be pretty cool. I think our audience is going to love it. I think their audience is going to love it, so it was a cool crossover to be able to jump into some totally different skin and try a new thing out for me."

Rollins then discussed being a bit nervous, as acting isn't second nature like wrestling. That's because Rollins has been completely focused on wrestling for the past 20 years, but he's also excited he got to jump into another arena.

"I'm not comfortable...like, look, I'm 38. I've only been doing wrestling for 20 years. Only, nonstop. That's it. I worked in like crappy restaurants and a carwash when I was in my early 20s, and that's it," Rollins said. "Other than that all I've done is wrestling, so anytime I get out of my comfort zone I am nervous. I'm like I suck at this, I don't know what I'm doing, but I was in good hands and it was a really fun experience and I'm excited to see how it turns out."

Rollins then references the character he's playing and hopes that he didn't ruin anyone's vision of who that is supposed to be. "Hopefully everyone doesn't hate me," Rollins said. "I don't want to have ruined everybody's vision of this character, so I'm doing my best. I hope people enjoy it." You can find the official description for Rollins' Last Meal episode below,

"WWE superstar Seth Rollins joins Mythical Chef Josh to share his ideal Last Meal and the memories behind each dish. With questions about life, death, and everything in between, viewers will gain an intimate glimpse into Rollins' life, both inside and outside the ring."

As for Brave New World, the film is set to release on July 26th, 2024, but that also depends on how long the Actors strike continues. Production on all Marvel film projects was halted when the actors' strike began, and now the strike has surpassed 100 days. While there is renewed hope for a deal soon, until that ends it is unclear which movies will keep their release dates. Hopefully, the film is able to conclude its production soon because everyone would love to see Captain America hit theaters next year.

You can watch new episodes of Last Meals and more from Mythical Kitchen right here. You can also catch Rollins every week on Monday Night Raw on USA Network.

WWE Hall of Famer Made Sure WWE Kept Tabs on Drew McIntyre Following 2014 Release https://comicbook.com/wwe/news/wwe-hall-of-famer-mick-foley-kept-tabs-drew-mcintyre/ Mon, 30 Oct 2023 16:08:00 +0000 Liam Crowley d7d6a53d-8c7f-4643-840e-29619156a824

Drew McIntyre is unrecognizable from his first WWE run. After getting released in 2014, McIntyre hit the independent scene, wrestling under his real name of Drew Galloway. Within his first couple of months, it was evident that this iteration of McIntyre was a far cry from the air-guitarist that fans had seen on WWE TV not long ago. Similar to what Cody Rhodes would do a couple of years later, McIntyre went on this indie odyssey that saw him compete for promotions like ICW and WCPW while also holding a spot on the TNA roster, giving him an outlet to maintain television reps.

It took just about three years for McIntyre to get back on WWE's radar. Come 2017, McIntyre found himself in the sports-entertainment giant again, and by 2020 he was headlining his first WWE WrestleMania.

Mrs. Foley's baby boy knew Drew McIntyre would be something special.

Speaking on his Foley is Pod podcast, WWE Hall of Famer Mick Foley reflected on his time briefly sharing a locker room with McIntyre in Scotland's Insane Championship Wrestling. McIntyre made such a strong impression on him that Foley immediately made sure WWE still kept tabs on him.

"Drew will admit that there are times to go out there [on the indies] and be that guy from WWE, but when it really counted, like with Insane Championship Wrestling -- people need to know, just from the onset, I rarely text the powers that be and in this case, I texted Hunter (Triple H) after Drew sent me something," Foley recalled. "I wasn't close friends with Drew by any means, but I liked him, and he sent me something. 'Hey, I know you're busy, but I'm working on something different. I did something for ICW in Glasgow. Can you take a look?' He'd only been gone like a month, I texted Triple H and said, 'I know you just released him, but you need to keep your eye on Drew McIntyre. He's like an entirely different person.'"

Those early days wrestling for ICW eventually led to McIntyre becoming the company's world champion. He reigned with the ICW World Title for over a year, notably feuding with fan-favorite underdog Grado. At ICW Fear and Loathing VIII, Foley appeared in Grado's corner when he beat McIntyre for the prize.

"Sometimes you just need to go there," Foley continued. "You may find out by betting on yourself that you're only as good as WWE told you you were, but man, the two dirtiest words in the English language [are] 'what if?'"

NWA Worlds Champion EC3 Responds to NWA's Rumored Television Deal With The CW (Exclusive) https://comicbook.com/wwe/news/nwa-worlds-champion-ec3-rumored-television-deal-the-cw-exclusive/ Mon, 30 Oct 2023 14:48:00 +0000 Liam Crowley 64e4e678-941d-4080-b4ac-6a34a2394499

The National Wrestling Alliance is experiencing a resurgence. The historic wrestling promotion that once boasted the likes of Dusty Rhodes and Ric Flair was considered to be on life support come the 21st century. That was until Billy Corgan swooped in and purchased the company, bringing life into the NWA for the first time in decades. Built around then-NWA Worlds Champion Nick Aldis, the NWA reclaimed its spot on the professional wrestling map, holding quarterly pay-per-view events while also developing storylines on NWA Powerrr, a weekly series produced on YouTube. While the YouTube platform has kept the NWA moving forward, Corgan has been on the lookout for a broadcast television deal.

Recent reports have suggested that that long-awaited NWA TV contract is in fact happening, as rumblings point to The CW being the landing spot for the product.

The Overman approves.

When asked about the NWA x The CW rumors by ComicBook.com, NWA Worlds Champion EC3 praised NWA owner Billy Corgan's business abilities but emphasized that he is "as in the dark" as everyone else.

"I guess wherever The Overman goes, television deals and national tours follow," EC3 said. "Isn't that cool? No, I know the deal's been in the works for a while and I've been under lock and key because I'm not a stooge to the internet, but I don't know the exact specifics and parameters until we announce anything. I'm as in the dark about the details as everybody else."

The NWA has been linked to a number of networks over the years, but none of the previous rumors had ever come to fruition.

"What I know about Billy Corgan as a shrewd businessman and an entertainment mogul, he was never going to settle for a deal he didn't like," EC3 continued. "He was going to keep his cards close to his chest, so to speak, and play them when it was right, when the right deal would come along with the right network. So sometimes, I don't want to say you take steps back to take steps forward, but you hold the ground until you're ready."

EC3 successfully defended his NWA Worlds Championship against Thom Latimer this past weekend at NWA Samhain in a "No Limits" match.

Positive Update on Shane McMahon's Recovery: Returning to WWE Ring Soon? https://comicbook.com/wwe/news/positive-update-shane-mcmahon-recovery-returning-wwe-soon/ Mon, 30 Oct 2023 14:14:00 +0000 Liam Crowley a6ae9714-6ae6-4596-8ecd-7b127ad8e508

Shane McMahon shocked the wrestling world twice in a matter of minutes this past April at WWE WrestleMania 39. Shane had been absent from WWE programming since Royal Rumble 2022 following his controversial involvement in the titular battle royal. That match saw Shane put on an oddly dominating performance, which was then reported to be a result of Shane specifically booking himself to look strong. Word following Royal Rumble 2022 was that Vince McMahon essentially fired his son, reportedly telling him that he "would never get another pop in this company as long as [Vince is] around."

WWE WrestleMania 39 saw Shane make his first WWE appearance since that infamous Royal Rumble fiasco, as he was scheduled to wrestle The Miz in an impromptu match. Seconds into it, Shane tore his quad, leading to co-guest host Snoop Dogg improvising on the spot and finishing the match for him.

Positive News Regarding Shane McMahon's Recovery

Shane-O-Mac is on the way back.

Speaking on the Developmentally Speaking podcast, Shane's son, Declan McMahon, noted that his father is "healing quicker" than doctors thought.

"His rehab is going very, very well. He's gotten back to jogging, squatting. He's starting to work out again. His rehab is going really well. He's making phenomenal progress. The doctor says all the time that he's healing quicker than they thought," Declan said. "He completely tore his quad. That's a very long and hard recovery, but he's been crushing rehab. He's been doing his thing and he'll hopefully get back soon."

There is no word on whether Shane plans to wrestle again once he recovers, but based on Declan's words, it sounds like he is itching to hear "Here Comes The Money" at least a couple of more times.

"Obviously, when you're his son, you want to see your dad be able to do what he loves. My dad loves wrestling second to none," Declan continued. "He truly, truly cares for the business, but not only for the business, he truly wants to put on a show for the fans because the fans show him so much love. It's so rewarding for a lot of these guys just to give to those fans who came to see them. Hopefully he comes back better than ever and I think he will. His rehab is going great."

Fourth-Generation McMahon Teases Joining WWE https://comicbook.com/wwe/news/fourth-generation-declan-mcmahon-joining-wwe/ Mon, 30 Oct 2023 13:41:00 +0000 Liam Crowley 3cea5ae3-580c-4af4-9332-4ab57fe32cb0

The McMahon family name will always be synonymous with professional wrestling. Shortly after World War II, Vince J. McMahon started the Capitol Wrestling Corporation, a professional wrestling promotion that would put the scripted sport on the map. The CWC evolved into the World Wide Wrestling Federation for a brief spell before rebranding to its most prominent acronym, the WWF, just before Vince Sr.'s son, Vince K. McMahon, took the reins. Vince Jr. has owned and operated the sports-entertainment giant ever since and has fully embraced the familial nature that comes with his late father's business. Now known as WWE, the publicly-traded company has seen McMahon's children, Shane and Stephanie, both hold prominent positions of power for years at a time. McMahon's son-in-law, Paul "Triple H" Levesque, currently runs WWE creative.

For now, the McMahon lineage within WWE stretches for three generations. That said, a fourth could be on the way sooner than later.

Declan McMahon Teases WWE Debut

Wrestling has more than one royal family.

When asked which of Shane or Stephanie McMahon's children is most likely to join the family business, Declan McMahon named himself as the top choice to start a pro wrestling career in WWE.

"Oh, probably me. I mean, the story, the story's already written, right?" Declan told Developmentally Speaking. "The rightful heir. The good-looking. The one who looks like Vince, right?"

At 19 years old, Declan McMahon is the oldest of the current generation of his family. He is the son of Shane McMahon and currently plays football at Indiana University.

Declan's WWE connections go beyond a behind the scenes capacity, as he has been shown on WWE TV on a couple of occasions, including when he was just a baby.

"I think, just in the sense that you could play off the WrestleMania 20 [intro] like I posted on Twitter," Declan continued. "You could play that off and just show that like, the new generation [of] McMahon has arrived. I think in that sense, I would. We have such a great family, and we're all so supportive of each other."

Even if Declan believes he is the most likely to make the leap, he also admits he might not be the only one.

"I think any of us could potentially want to do it," Declan continued. "I know Aurora, Triple H's oldest daughter, she's always talked about wanting to do it, but in having my dad and my grandpa's ego, I think I'd be the best."

Vince McMahon Walks With Cane in Rare Public Appearance With the Undertaker https://comicbook.com/wwe/news/vince-mcmahon-cane-public-appearance-undertaker-wwe/ Sun, 29 Oct 2023 20:50:00 +0000 Charlie Ridgely bbd05b94-b522-4d14-b626-c2264b0bc263

WWE co-founder and boss Vince McMahon made a rare public appearance over the weekend, walking with a cane after a spinal surgery earlier this year. McMahon, who currently serves as Executive Chairman of WWE's new parent company TKO, is in Saudi Arabia ahead of the WWE Crown Jewel event next weekend. On Saturday evening, McMahon attended the boxing match between Tyson Fury and Francis Ngannou, with one of the most iconic wrestlers in WWE history by his side.

The Undertaker (Mark Calaway) joined McMahon at Saturday's match. The WWE Hall of Famer could be seen accompanying McMahon at the event, with the latter using a cane to walk. McMahon has made other public appearances in recent months, most of which coincided with WWE's merger with UFC.

Vince McMahon Reportedly Not in Charge of WWE Creative

McMahon, who is still under investigation for sexual misconduct and paying millions to keep accusers quiet, may have been the driving force behind WWE's merger and still has a major role within the company, but it will be Triple H who remains in charge of creative. The longtime WWE Superstar-turned-executive took over WWE's creative role when McMahon first stepped down from the company in 2022. McMahon's return brought some of his well-known creative antics back to the forefront, but those have largely disappeared again as of late.

According to a report from PWInsider earlier this month, there is an "internal belief" within WWE that McMahon is no longer involved with WWE creative. Triple H, real name Paul Levesque, has been "basically knighted" by parent company Endeavor to lead things creatively. That comes as a relief to both talent and fans, many of whom have had high praise for Triple H's work leading WWE's on-screen product.

While McMahon's fingerprints were on WWE creative during some big shows earlier this year, the company has always maintained that Levesque has been in charge.

"Specifically Vince articulated that Paul Levesque remains the sole chief creative officer. Sole," said WWE CEO Nick Khan. "Paul and Vince have a family relationship, a relationship that stands back to the mid-90s. Paul's in charge of creative. If he wants input from Vince or Vince has ideas then he and Paul are gonna communicate, that's always going be the case. We're lucky to have Vince. We're lucky to have Paul in control of creative."

MJF Defeats Kenny Omega and Retains AEW World Title on Collision with Tribute to Adam Cole https://comicbook.com/wwe/news/mjf-defeats-kenny-omega-and-retains-aew-world-title-on-collision-with-tribute-to-adam-cole/ Sun, 29 Oct 2023 03:05:00 +0000 Matthew Aguilar 4ac1c8f6-d62e-46ee-8153-df6c702a6dc2

AEW Collision brought things to a close with a pay-per-view-worthy match for the AEW World Championship, pitting MJF against Kenny Omega, and it definitely had that big fight feel. The two stars countered each other constantly throughout the match, and when that wasn't happening they were taking serious damage from vicious knee strikes, piledrivers, and shattered tables. At one point it looked like Omega had won the match, but MJF kicked out at the last second. That led to MJF paying tribute to his best friend Adam Cole by hitting Omega with a Panama Sunrise, and then he followed it up with a Heatseeker to finally pin Omega and retain his AEW World Championship.

The two stars stared each other down for a minute and then backed up into their corners and officially launched the match with a lock-up. MJF got ahold of Omega's wrist but Omega countered, only to get countered by MJF. Omega reversed the hold and the two circled each other once more after the stalemate. Another lock-up followed but then MJF anticipated Omega's move and stopped himself, and then taunted Omega by walking over him with a strut. The two stars kept countering for a bit and then they looked to get to their feet, but Omega slipped a little on his way up. MJF took a second to point it out, telling the crowd to quiet down and then offering his hand to Omega after yelling "Sportsmanship."

The crowd chanted along and Omega shook his hand after some hesitation, and MJF rewarded that by hitting him and celebrating. Omega got some revenge by flipping MJF over the ropes to the floor, and then he dove over the top rope and collided with the Champion. MJF then came right back and leaped over the ropes, knocking Omega to the floor and stunning the challenger.

Omega knocked the Champ down and got up on the turnbuckle but again slightly slipped, though he still hit the crossbody. MJF then caught Omega in mid-air and brought him down hard on his knee before going for the cover, but Omega kicked out. MJF got a hold locked in and then slammed down Omega, and then MJF kept up the attack, hitting Omega with a DDT after having him in a guillotine. MJF taunted a bit but then Omega hit MJF with a German suplex.

Omega knocked MJF down with clotheslines and then slid and hit a dropkick to MJF's knee. Omega brought down MJF face first onto the mat and went for the cover, but MJF kicked out. Omega knocked MJF over the rope with a lariat, and then Omega jumped off the turnbuckle and knocked MJF back to the floor. Omega got MJF back in the ring and hit a missile dropkick into a cover, but MJF kicked out. Omega picked up MJF on his shoulders and slammed the Champ down before going for another move, but MJF got his knees up.

MJF started rolling with some offense, leading to a number of face-first slams into the turnbuckle. Then MJF connected with a host of punches that led to a bite on the head, and MJF finished the combo off by throwing Omega into the turnbuckle in the opposite corner. MJF signaled he was going for the Kangaroo kick, and he connected, knocking Omega to the outside.

Omega was back in and flipped MJF over to the mat. Omega lifted MJF and brought him down to the mat hard before going for the cover, but MJF kicked out. Omega signaled a move but MJF got away, only to eat a dropkick to the face moments later, sending MJF into the announce table. Omega then went to look for weapons and brought out a table, much to the delight of the crowd. Omega set up the table and went to get back in the ring, but MJF charged forward. Omega went for a sunset flip but MJF reversed. Omega reversed that move and went for a cover, but MJF countered next.

Omega hit a powerbomb into the turnbuckle but MJF responded by clotheslining Omega, and both stars were down. Both stars got to their feet and traded punches, but then Omega slammed MJF's back and neck onto the ring apron. Omega then picked up MJF and powerbombed him through the table, completely shattering it. Back on their feet in the ring, the two stars traded punches and chops, with Omega getting a number of punches to the head. MJF responded with a thumb to the eye, but then Omega hit a knee strike.

MJF came back with a forearm and then Omega lifted the Champion only to get hit with a hurricanrana. Omega caught MJF as he ran forward and sent him flying to the mat, with both stars being down again. They made it to their feet, but Omega got caught with an elbow. MJF hit Omega with a slam into a cover, but Omega kicked out. MJF then went for a piledriver and hit it, though Omega reversed his next move. Omega then hit a piledriver of his own and went for the pin, but MJF got his foot on the bottom rope at the last minute.

Omega picked up MJF and dropped him on the top of the barricade. MJF was hurting, saying that his ribs were hurt, but then Omega pulled the covering off the top of the barricade and went to pick MJF up again. The referee gave Omega the warning that he was about to be counted out and didn't want him to do the move on the barricade, so Omega got the Champ in the ring and went up top. MJF got up and moved the top rope, knocking Omega's foot off and hurting Omega in the process. MJF then joined Omega up top and taunted a bit, and Omega made him pay.

Omega then hit the knee strike on the back of the Champion's head and hit a snap dragon before a knee strike and a cover, but MJF kicked out at the last minute. Omega looked for the V Trigger and got it, but that wasn't enough. Omega went for it again and hit it, and then Omega went for the One Winged Angel. At that moment, Don Callis came running out and Omega threw MJF to the mat. MJF then rolled Omega up and went for the cover while he was distracted. He didn't get it, and then Omega knocked MJF down and went for a cover, but the Champ kicked out.

Omega went for the finisher again but MJF was able to roll him up and they traded pin attempts, but no one got it. MJF hit a knee strike to the head and went for the Heatseeker and got it. MJF went for the pin but Omega kicked out before the 3-count. MJF then went up top and went for the Panama Sunrise but didn't get it, and then Omega rolled the Champ up and seemed like he might've won, but MJF kicked out at the very last second. MJF went for the Panama Sunrise again in honor of Adam Cole, and this time he got it. MJF then went for the Heatseeker and hit that too. MJF then pinned Omega and got the 3-count, retaining his AEW World Championship.
